     Johann Cord 'Kurt' Schake
(1812-unknown date of death)
       1808-1890
These were the first SCHAKES OF LA CHARETTE. They came in 1855 from Lippe (Germany), she from Ludenhausen, he a blacksmith and tiny farner from Humfeld. They brought their family, their dreams and a few possessions with them. They bought a farm and built a log home with assistance from a neighbor's black slaves in Charette Township, Warren County, Missouri. Later their sons would purchase an adjoining farm which previously was home to Osage Indians, settlers from the Old South and their black slaves. Here the next four generations of Schakes would experience various aspects of their lives at the SCHAKES OF LA CHARETTE farms.
