"I admire the work of your forefathers, and think it's lovely that you've decided to commemorate them on the Web."

On January 4, 1824, the local building concern of Mott, Strong, & Mott was awarded a $2,800 contract to build the courthouse. Isle La Motte Marble Stone was used for the entire building.

The belfry atop the Courthouse was an added detail to the original contract and was partly paid for by public subscription. According to historian and author, Allen Stratton, "it truly does enhance the overall appearance of the building". In 1969 Mr Stratton "crawled up through the trap door into the attic, then up a ladder into the belfry, some 145 years since it was built and seemingly untouched by time."
