Texas County was originally named Ashley County and was organized February 14, 1845 from Wright and Shannon Counties. Texas County was named for the Lone Star State and Houston, the county seat, was named for General Sam Houston, the "hero of San Jacinto".
My name is Lainee Denton and I am the
county coordinator and your hostess for the Texas County, Missouri AHGP
(American History and Genealogy Project). These pages are only as good
as you would like them to be. If you have any items of interest that you
would like to share that would benefit others then by all means send them
on. All contributions gratefully accepted and all contributors will be
recognized. I do *NOT* live in Texas County and do not have the resources
myself to do lookups. I hope you enjoy your visit in these pages.
