WOOLEY CREEK SCHOOL FAQ'S

1. Where is the Wooley Creek School located?

The Wooley Creek School is located west of Cape Fair, Missouri. From the junction of State Hwy. 76 and 173 in Cape Fair, go west on Hwy. 76 for 3 miles to Wooley Creek Road. Turn on Wooley Creek Road and continue for 1 mile to the school. It is located on the left side of the road and easily accessed.

2. Is the school open to the public?

The school is presently open by appointment only except for the annual festival events in October. There are no set hours of operation at this time. Schools and other groups are welcome to visit the school as well as individuals. If you have other questions about the school or would like to make an appointment to see the school, please contact:

3. How is the restoration and continued operation of the building being funded?

The school has non profit corporation status and is registered with the Missouri Secretary of State’s office in Jefferson City. Funds generated for restoration work and operating expenses are strictly from donations only. Restoration work to date has been completely donated by a group of retired Reeds Spring teachers and area residents interested in the project. A generous donation of a handmade quilt by a former student helped to raise some much needed funds during the first Wooley Creek School Bluegrass Festival the summer of 2005. Former students, teachers and area residents have also made generous donations.

All donations are greatly appreciated. If you would like to donate to this project, checks can be made to the Wooley Creek School Building Fund and can be mailed to School Director, Doyle Branstetter at 1522 Wooley Creek Road; Cape Fair, MO 65624 or call 417-538-2939.  Donations may also be mailed to Michael Collins, Sec./Treas. of the Wooley Creek Association at: Route 2 Box 669T; Cape Fair, Missouri.

The Restoration Committee is interested in obtaining any photos, memorabilia, historical facts, student and teacher information about the Wooley Creek School. Anyone who has this kind of information is asked to contact Mary Ann Broomfield 417-538-2329

4. What events are held at the school?

A 3-day bluegrass festival is held each year in October, which includes tours of the school, a Sunday morning worship service inside the school, professional bluegrass music groups performing on the outdoor stage and a plentiful supply of good food. The festival dates for 2007 are October 12-14. There is always plenty free parking and the public is welcome and encouraged to come.
