Bell City is a town on the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad* and laid out
soon after the building of that line.
There were churches, a public school, hotel, four stores and other smaller
business establishments.
The St. Louis Southwestern Railroad was organized January 15, 1891,
and June 1st following the receiver of the St. Louis, Arkansas & Texas Railway
Company delivered possession and control.
Its origin, 1876, was in a company organized to construct a railroad from New Madrid,
Mo., to Helena, Ark., which company consolidated with the Texas & St. Louis.
Bell City is 2 1/2 miles north of Ardeola.
