Luke Davis


1823 - 1908

Luke Davis was born in Washington County, Missouri, on Nov. 26, 1823, son of John Davis and Sarah (Pershall) Davis, and died in St. Francois County on January 10, 1908,  at the age of 84 years.   He married  Rachel Fields on April 10, 1845, in St. Francois County, Missouri, daughter of John Fields and Mary (Wills) Fields.  She was born April 09, 1827 in Missouri, and died August 22, 1885 in St. Francois County, Missouri, at the age of 58 years.  To this marriage were born 11 children, namely:  John Samuel, Francis C., Mary Elizabeth, William B., Alice A., Robert M., Sarah Emiline, James L., Martha Alice, Jesse M., and Julia A.    On April 22, 1888, he married for a second time to Mary Mahala Sutton, daughter of Jesse Sutton and Olive (Fields) Sutton.  She was born July 6, 1854 in Missouri, and died May 22, 1938 in St. Francois County, at the age of 83 years.  Luke and Mary had one child, Lytle Davis.  Luke later divorced Mary and the 1900 census shows that both he and Lytle were living with his daughter, Alice A. (Davis) Pigg.  Luke's occupation was that of a farmer.  He died of pneumonia at the home of his daughter, Alice, on January 10, 1908, and was buried at Mitchell Cemetery near Leadwood, Missouri,  next to his first wife, Rachel Fields.     If you would like to share information on this line, please contact Robert Davis who contributed this information as well as the above photograph.
