When the above photo was published in 1977, the following caption accompanied the photo:

SEVENTY-ONE YEARS ago these October 1906 pupils posed for their picture beside the old Taylor School, northeast of Farmington, in Ste. Genevieve County.  The picture was provided by Mrs. Nan Edwards Yeates, 206 West Harrison, one of 12 of the 40 pupils she has identified as still living.  The late Elbert J. Hunt, 84, of 405 North Franklin, who passed away on Jan. 4, 1977, is the boy standing beside the teacher, Marion E. Rhodes, at the far right.

THOSE LIVING in front row -- second, third and fourth from left are Richard Edwards, William Weeke, Gus Weeke.  Second row from front -- second from left, Clifford Edwards; second and third from right, Nan Edwards Yeates and Lois Cunningham Dennison.  Third row from front -- third from left, Minnie O'Sullivan; fifth from left, Jessie Edwards Benedict; second from right, Sallie Yeager McCormick; fourth from right, Marie Thompson Valle.  Back row -- fourth from left, Walter Hoy; second from right, Kennett Yeager.  Hoy's deceased brother, Harvey, is the first from the left in the back row; their late brother Jeffrey Hoy, is the seventh from left sitting in the second row.

MANY BOYS wore hats, some caps. Long black stockings and high shoes were worn by both boys and girls.  Short pants were worn by all young boys.  The school was just east of the Turley Mill Road and stood at the bend of what is now Hopkins Road, north of the Missouri-Illinois Railroad tracks.
