Joseph Campbell, age 40, was instantly killed about 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon when he was caught between two underground ore cars at St. Joseph Lead Company shaft No. 3. A train of loaded ore cars was being hauled up an incline when a hook attached to the end car broke, allowing the cars to roll back down the incline at a rapid rate. Campbell attempted to run across the track between the rapidly approaching cars and some empties that were standing on the track. He failed to get in the clear and was instantly crushed to death.
Deceased made his home in Flat River and had been in the employ of the company for several months. He is survived by his wife and four children. Arrangements for the funeral had not yet been made when we went to press.
