Private Roome was 20 years of age and was a son of Everett Roome of Montpelier, Ohio, and Mrs. W. L. Scott, formerly of Flat River, now residing in Portland, Oregon. He was born and reared in Flat River, graduating from high school with the class of 1943. He entered military service on July 20, 1943, and was sent overseas before Christmas. He received his basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas.

Surviving besides his parents is a brother, Tech. Sgt. Elmer Roome, stationed at Camp Howze, Gainsville, Texas, and a sister, Lillian, of Portland, Oregon, also his grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Brown of Flat River.

A news dispatch from Headquarters Communications Zone to the Lead Belt News, received Wednesday, stated that Pvt. Roome had been commended by his commanding officer for meritorious service in action. A litter bearer in one of the division's infantry regiments, he performed heroically in evacuating and giving aid to the wounded while under heavy artillery and mortar fire. He did this, according to his commanding officer, with utter disregard for his own safety.
