Lynn Thurman was 24 at the time of his induction in the Navy.  He received three months training at the U.S. Naval Training Center Great Lakes, Ill., then was sent overseas immediately. 

He served on a Merchant Marine Ship as an armed gunner.  He was sent to the Atlantic Theatre and the Pacific Theatre and crossed the equator twice. 

Thurman is now deceased and this information was provided by his wife Evelyn Thurman of Park Hills.
