C. M. (Bud) Schearer, Park Hills, was a Staff Sergeant
in the Air Force, 449th Bomb Group, 718 Bomb Squad, 15th Air Force.� He served in Italy during World War II.
Schearer entered service October, 1942.� He trained at different air bases in the United
States before going overseas in December, 1943.� He
served until he was wounded in August, 1944, on a mission over the Ploesti Oil Fields of
Rumania.
Schearer was a waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber.� He flew 43 missions before being wounded.� He returned to the states in November, 1944 and
spent three years in a VA hospital before being discharged in October, 1947.
He is a life member of the D.A.V. and the 449th Bomb
Group Association.
