Francis E. Schmelzle, Warner Drive, Leadwood, was a Tech Sergeant with the
U.S. Army's Company A, 635th Tank Destroyer B.N. during World War II. He served in
Normandy, Central Europe, Rhineland and North France. He was awarded five Bronze Stars in
1945 (good conduct), No Time Lost and three overseas service bars.
