John L. Ragsdale of Affton served with the U.S. Army.  He was T3 with the Med. Det. 148 General Hospital and served in the American Theatre and Asiatic Pacific Theatre.

Ragsdale was stationed on the Island of Tinian at the time the B-29 Enola Gay flew the first atomic bomb to Japan.
