Joseph Hugon, aged 90 years and 29 days, died Monday, December 6, 1926, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. L. Deremo, on West Main street, Flat River. Funeral services were held at the Deremo home Wednesday afternoon, December 8, 1926, at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. D. Owen, pastor of the Flat River Baptist Church. Interment was in Festus, MO.
Joseph Hugon was born November 7, 1836, at Plenisette, France, and came to this country as a young man. In 1863, he was married to Julia Caroline Walker and to this union six children were born, three of whom survive their parents: Mrs. Mary Gross, St. Louis; Joseph Hugon, Jr., Lowassie, MO; and Mrs. J. L. Deremo, Flat River. He has made his home with the latter daughter for the past 12 years. He leaves 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild as well, and a large number of friends joing the family in their sorrow over his passing.
He joined forces with Company G., First Regiment of Artillery, August 21, 1861, and served for three years in the thick of the Civil War. He fought with his company in the battles of Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain and many other less important engagements, and was discharged at Chattanooga September 6, 1864.
