Walter Clyde Jones, Park Hills, Missouri, son of the late Grover L. Jones and Carrie (Blackwell) Jones,  was inducted into the Air Corps at Jefferson Barracks on April 3, 1941.  After several promotions he attained the rank of Tech Sergeant on February 22, 1944.  He served with the 19th Bomber Group, 32nd Group, 5th Air Force and was in the South Pacific for 34 months where he participated in three major battles.  After returning to the states he was stationed at Roswell, New Mexico, and was honorably discharged on September 27, 1945.     Shortly before his discharge, in August of 1945, he married Lillie Mae Thomas of Bonne Terre, Missouri.  He and Lillie Mae became the parents of three children, Robert Jones of Spring, Texas, Bettye (Jones) Warner of Terre Du Lac, MO, and Loralyn (Jones) O'Brien of Park Hills, MO, and have three grandchildren, Melissa (Jones) Purifoy, Corey Warner and Thomas Warner, Jr. They also have two great-grandsons, Trey Purifoy and Keith Purifoy, Jr. of Huntsville, Texas.  Walter Clyde Jones passed away August 20, 2009, and is buried beside his wife at St. Francois Memorial Park Cemetery near Desloge, Missouri.
