Jasper G. Wilson was born near Bismarck, Missouri, July 20, 1845, the son of Zachariah and Mary Hall Wilson, and passed away Monday, November 4, 1935, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lulu Hall of Fredericktown, aged 90 years 3 months 14 days.
At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Union Army and served during the period of the Civil War, in Company K, Provisional Militia. He spent practically his entire lifetime in St. Francois and Madison counties.
On February 26, 1866, he was united in marriage to Lucy Carrier, who died four years ago. To this union were born five children, one daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Davis, having preceded him in death three years. He is survived by three sons and one daughter, John Wilson of Murphysboro, Illinois; Wm. Wilson of Ashley, Illinois; Daniel M. Wilson of Flat River and Mrs. Lulu Hall of Fredericktown. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
"Uncle Moody," as he was affectionately known, was possessed of a kindly disposition and was a Christian gentleman. During his long illness he was tenderly cared for by his daughter. He was the joy and sunshine of his home and will be sadly missed.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder C. G. Bellah at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the residence and interment was in the Fredericktown cemetery, in charge of C. Z. Boyer and Son Undertakers. Coleman Frazier Post of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted military rites at the graveside.
