YOUNG FLAT RIVER MAN KILLED IN VIETNAM
Francis E. Cortor, Jr., 22, son of Mrs. Frances Jan Cortor of Flat River and Francis Cortor, Sr. of Festus, was killed in action against enemy forces in the Republic of South Vietnam, when his unit became under attack by enemy mortar fire.
Cortor had served one tour of duty in Vietnam, spent a 30 day leave at his home and returned to Vietnam in June. He was a member of the United States Army Infantry.
He graduated from Esther High School, attended one year of college at Bolivar and then joined the army.
Francis E. Cortor, Jr., was born May 23, 1947, at Bonne Terre and died October 21, 1969, in Vietnam.
Besides his parents he is survived by three brothers: Phillip Cortor of the United States Navy, in Pensacola, Fla.; Dennis Paul Cortor and James Andrew Cortor, both of Flat River; a grandmother, Mrs. Joyce King, Flat River; a grandfather, Homer Alexander of Crystal City; a great grandfather, Huston Alexander of Little Rock, Ark.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The body is enroute from Vietnam, arrival indefinite. Services will be held at the Esther Baptist Church with Rev. V. E. Defreece officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Caldwell Funeral Homes. Full military rites will be held.
