David Cooksey has been reported killed in action. His mother, Mrs. Margaret Cooksey of Bonne Terre, received a telegram from the War Department, Thursday, November 7, announcing his death. Private Cooksey enlisted in the army several months ago at the age of 42 years. He had lived in Flat River, at intervals, for several years.

DAVID FRANKLIN COOKSEY

David Franklin Cooksey was born December 14, 1877 in Jefferson County, Missouri. He was brought by his parents when young to St. Francois county. Remained the most of his time here. In 1917 he enlisted in the war. He was sent to Camp Doniphan Oklahoma. He was sent overseas early in 1918. He wrote home often to his folks and always seemed to be pleased that he was over there. November the 6th, I got a telegram that he was killed in action. It is so hard to bear this thought.

In 1914 he professed Christ and he joined the Baptist Church at Flat River, Mo. He left there and went to Washington taking his church letter with him but when he came back he placed his letter back in that same church. He was an Odd Fellow and sure loved that lodge. He was also a K. of P. member. He was forty-one years and ten months old.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, two brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Smith in Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Wininger of Flat River, Louis Cooksey at Camp Cnuster, Mich., Grover Cooksey at Elvins, and Mrs. Jennie Nelms at home in Bonne Terre. It is sure hard to say we can't look for Dave home again.

CARD OF THANKS

I sincerely thank the people of Bonne Tere who has shown their sympathy to me and also the sympathy from surrounding cities and towns which is St. Louis, Salem, Mo., DeSoto, Flat River, Desloge and Cincinnati, Ohio. Dave's Mother, Mrs. M. E. Cooksey.
