FRANK HARRIS BADLY WOUNDED -------------------------- Frank Harris is in trouble again. It is alleged that he had been paying too much attention to the wife of James Stout at Iron Mountain. Sunday afternoon he went to Stout's home and the two became engaged in a quarrel, as a result of which Harris drew a large 45 calibre revolver and struck Stout over the head with it and also shot him in the left arm, and the ball ranging upward and lodging in his neck. He then pointed the weapon at Stout's face and was about the pull the trigger when Frank Postlewaite, who was present, struck the barrel of the revolver, causing the bullet to take effect in the ceiling of the room instead of in Stout's head. Harris then started to leave when Stout grabbed a shot gun which was standing near the door, and shot Harris twice. The charges of shot both entered his body one in his back and one just below his neck. Harris was pretty badly injured, but was able to be taken away by his brother-in-law, Mr. Langly [sic Langley], who appeared on the scene about this time. Harris was taken to Pilot Knob where he is being guarded by the Sheriff of Iron county. It is thought that both Harris and Stout will recover. Harris was one of the participants in the famous Harris - Dooley fight at the Doe Run picnic on August 4, 1900. He is almost continually in trouble and it seems he came pretty near finding his end this time. He was brought to Farmington Tuesday and placed in jail. --Farmin News. |
