Leann Marler loses battle with cancer

Park Hills loses long-time librarian

Published in Daily Journal, Wednesday, June 6, 2012

PARK HILLS - The Park Hills library director has died after a battle with cancer.

Leann Marler died Monday. By order of the mayor, the library will be closed on Thursday for her funeral and flags at the library and other city facilities will be lowered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in honor and remembrance of her life.

Her visitation will be held at Boyer Funeral Home in Park Hills beginning at 5 p.m. today. The funeral will be held there at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Marler began her career with the library as an assistant librarian for Flat River in March of 1984. She assumed the role of library director for the Park Hills Library in September of 1997. Lisa Sisk has been named interim library director until a replacement is named.

City Administrator John Kennedy said Marlers service to the city, her devotion to the library and its literary programs and especially her dedication toward the reading public will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

(2005)

Our hearts and thoughts go out to her family, her many friends, her co-workers, the patrons of the library, and all whose lives she has touched over the years, he said.

Kennedy knew Marler for most of his life since she grew up a block away from his grandfather. He said she was one of the nicest people youd ever want to meet.

I dont know that I ever saw her mad ... he said.

He said she was an excellent librarian who was always forward-thinking and dedicated to her job. He said she had a good sense of what people wanted and needed from the library within the citys budget limitations.

She was responsible for a lot of the improvements and decorations in the new library. He said she was very particular on what colors she wanted to walls to be.

(October 2008)

At the next council meeting, there will be a time for silent prayer instead of the traditional invocation.

The family has requested that memorial donations be directed to the library. The city has established the Leann Marler Memorial Library Fund at New Era Bank for those who want to make donations.
