PERRY COUNTY PRIEST HELD AS DISLOYALIST

Rev. Father Charles E. Einig, a priest of Belgique, Perry County, was arrested Monday morning at his home on a federal warrant charging him with making disloyal remarks. It is alleged he made statements reflecting on the Liberty Bonds and the American Red Cross.

He was taken to St. Louis by Deputy United States Marshal Orchard and taken before United States Commissioner Russell L. Dearmont. Father Einig gave bond of $2000 for his appearance before the commissioner for a public hearing July 9 and was released.

According to the information, was sworn to by Assistant United States Attorney White of St. Louis, Father Einig made the disloyal remarks in his church and in conversation with parishioners. He is alleged to have attacked the validity of the Liberty bonds and is also charged with having agitated opposition to the Red Cross.
