WOLFE, Abigail

Abigail Wolfe was born November 22, 1846, in Sullivan county, Indiana. She departed this life February 19, 1929, age eighty-two years, two months and twenty-eight days. She was united in marriage to George W. Wolfe, November 17, 1864, who preceded her in death June 4, 1925. To this union was born eleven children, namely: Mrs. F.M. Delozier, Chelsea, Oklahoma; and an infant child, both deceased; Mrs. E.M. Terry, Osceola, Missouri; Mrs. E.B. Hood, Clinton, Missouri; Mrs. Ed Truitt, Collins, Missouri; Mrs. Ed Tillery, St. Johns, Kansas; Tom Wolfe, Long Beach, California; Joe Wolfe, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Barnie Wolfe of Omaha, Nebraska; and Bill and Homer Wolfe of the home address. She had thirty-four grandchildren and forty-three great grandchildren. She also leaves four brothers and one sister to mourn her loss. “Grandma” Wolfe, as she was known to her many friends, united with the Christian church early in life and lived a faithful member ever after. She was a resident of St. Clair County for many years. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in El Dorado Springs, February 21, 1929. The active pall bearers were the grandchildren: Harlen and Hugh Delozier, Mrs. Estell Sutton, and Mrs. Elsie Anderson, all of Chelsea, Oklahoma; Mrs. Albia Igo, Deepwater; Mrs. W. Hemphill, Lowry City; Cecil Truitt, Collins. Her friends were numbered by all who knew her.

WOLFE, Rhonda Lee Gregg

Rhonda Lee Wolfe, 38, Kansas City, a security company employee, died Sunday, November 3, 2002, at her home in Kansas City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 6, in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery.

WOMBLE, Arretta Idella Teters

Arretta Idella Teters Womble was born April, 1909, in Stroud, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harve Lional Teters and Alice May Craig Teters. She died Saturday evening, June 28, 2003, at Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. She was married to James Earl Womble on July 8, 1925, in Chandler, Oklahoma. Mr. Womble preceded her in death December 15, 1981. For many years the Wombles resided in El Dorado Springs. She moved to Lowry City 16 years ago. She was a member of the El Dorado Springs First Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church of Lowry City. She is survived by her children, Lorene Walters of Lowry City, Alfred E. and Nola Womble of Stockton, and Nathan Earl and Mary Womble of Huntsville, Arkansas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Jordan, and one brother, Delbert Teters, both of Stroud, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 2, 10 a.m. at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Jeff Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery, under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

A. W. Wood Took Life Death Came Sunday Morning From Own Act At His Farm Home South of Harrisonville About 10:30 Sunday morning, according to the supposition of the physician and the coroner, Albert W. Wood took carbolic acid with potions of other liquids that caused his death as he lay on the couch of his home. No one was there at the time and the body was found by Mrs. Wood as she entered the home before the noon hour. Several small bottles were on the floor nearby; one of them being labeled as above stated. He had been in ill health sometime and had previously indicated that he would commit such an act. Albert W. Wood was born at Charleston, Ill., October 24, 1876, a son of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth Mock Wood. The parents came to Kansas, then to St. Clair County, Mo., where their son grew to manhood. He met Miss Maude May Griffith, who was reared near Deepwater, then living at Clinton, following her father's death, May 22, 1913. They were united in marriage in Washington D C where she was then employed in government service. They settled on a farm near Clinton the first year, then came to a farm three miles northeast of Harrisonville in the spring of 1914 where they lived six years. They lived south of Freeman and then a few years ago they moved again to this community to the farm now occupied them. They are the parents of four sons, Pvt. Jack Wood, Camp Barkeley, Texas; Sgt. Albert Leonard Wood, Camp Breckenridge, Ky.; Pvt. Robert Wood, recently at the Lincoln, Nebr. Air Base; Herbert Wood in defense work at Chester, Calif. All the sons came to attend the funeral services. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. C. V. Swisher, Slater, Mo.; Mrs. H. L. Hall, Springfield, Mo.; and two brothers, Frank Wood, Richmond, Va.; and Walter Wood, address unknown; and a two-year old granddaughter, Linda Diane Wood, Chester, Calif. A W Wood was an industrious farmer all his life. He had a genial personality and made friends wherever he lived and was a fine neighbor and friend. He served in the Spanish-American war and during the time he was in Cuba he was attacked with yellow fever. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon with the Rev. H. R. Wharton of Malta Bend, Mo., in charge as he is former pastor of the Shiloh Methodist church south of Freeman where the family lived from 1920 to 1937. Interment will be in Clinton on the family lot of Mrs. Wood's relatives.

WOOD, Audra Marie Warren

Audra Marie Wood, 98, Osceola, died February 13, 2003, at her daughter's home in Neosho, after a lengthy illness. Audra was born February 23, 1904, to George Warren and Alta (Hammonds) Warren near Iconium. With the exception of three years in Lafayette County, she lived her lifetime in St. Clair County in the vicinity of Iconium. In 1940 Audra declared her faith in Christ and became a member of Goshen Primitive Baptist Church at Harper, and was baptized in Hogles Creek nearby. She married Joe Wood December 4, 1919, at the Commercial Hotel in Osceola and three children were born from this union. Her husband preceded her in death July 18, 1980, and a son-in-law, Loren Mitchell, March 18, 2002. She is survived by all of her children, Jean Sheldon and husband Charles, Osceola, Elaine Mitchell of Neosho, Jack Wood and wife Maxine, Osceola. She has eight grandchildren and 21 great and great-great-grandchildren. Precious are the memories of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Because she had trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, He manifested His love through her life. She was nurturing and caring, always having time to listen and asking questions revealing her genuine concern for others. She never failed to show her gratefulness when others met her needs. Not only was this demonstrated through her words but also through her weekly handwritten notes and letters. We were all made to feel very special and unique because there was always enough love to go around. How often we remember her saying, "Honey, we just need to love each other!" She was known as a person who looked for the good in people. She did not hold grudges nor speak unkindly. You could trace the laugh lines in her face because of the joy she found in life, whether it be helping to meet the needs of her husband, children and grandchildren or the loving work of her hands through homemade canned goods and the hundreds of beautiful hand-pieced quilts she made. All the wonderful character traits of her life were only possible because she allowed the Lord to live through her. This was particularly evident in the last years and weeks of her life when her Godly spirit was what sustained her through her infirmities. We have all been greatly impacted by her life. May we take her legacy so that we, too, can make a difference in the world we live in. Funeral services were Sunday, February 16, 2 p.m., at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Elder Bill Wood and Rev. Dan Dellinger officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Burial was in Iconium Cemetery.

WOOD, Earl C.

Earl C. Wood, the son of Grover Cleveland and Mary Ellen (Chastain) Wood, was born July 20, 1918, in Henry County, near Windsor. He departed this earthly life March 1, 2004, at the Appleton City Manor. Earl was raised in Henry County and graduated from Clinton High School in 1936. January 21, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther F. Long. To this union two children, Sue and Jerry, were born. At a young age he accepted Christ into his life. Earl was the Standard Oil agent in Appleton city for over 30 years. He was able to enjoy traveling to many parts of the United States. After the death of his first wife, he married Ernestine (Todd) Hall, and after her death he married Leta (Hunsucker) Borum Stoltz. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Esther Long and Ernestine Todd Hall; a grandson, Steven Wood, and a sister Lucille Goldsmith. He is survived by his wife Leta, of the home; children, Sue and husband Bud Suse, Pauma Valley, California, and Jerry Wood and wife Judy, Appleton City; sister Vera Taylor, Independence; grandchildren Debbie and husband Ken Bero, Doug Suse and wife Kimberly, Robert wood and wife Tammy, and Susan Wood Caulk; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Amy Bero, Kelly and Jessica Wood and Chanler and Ashtyn Caulk; two stepsons, Gary Hall and wife Marybeth, and Mark Hall and one stepdaughter, Barbara and husband Ron Smith. Earl had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years and attended both the Methodist and Christian Church with his wife Leta. Funeral services were held at Hill & son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Friday, March 5, 2 p.m. Pastor John Ketcher and Rev. Tony Reynolds officiated. Pallbearers were Rob Wood, Ken Bero, Doug Suse, Ron Smith, Kevin Smith and Mike Sawyer. Burial was in Appleton City Cemetery.

WOOD, Edith Irene Logan

Edith Irene Wood was born Nov. 6, 1943 in Oakland, Calif., daughter of Max and Georgia (Plumlee) Logan, the oldest of three children. She passed away Feb 15, 2008 at her home. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. Edith went to nursing school in Kansas City for a short time, then started working at Bell Telephone Company in Kansas City. She moved back to Clinton in 1966 and worked at Clearfield Cheese Plant where she met and married Estel Wood on March 23, 1968. In addition to helping with farming and milking cattle, she tried to be a good step mother to Estel's three sons, Rick, Ron and Brian. One of her greatest joys was baking pies and cakes and taking food to neighbors that were sick and elderly. She liked to go into the woods and pick gooseberries and blackberries for pies. Most precious to her was her family. She was a good wife, daughter, sister and stepmother. She always made it a point to call her family and friends atleast once a week to check on them to see if they needed anything and to let them know what was going on her life. Her father and mother and brother, Glen Logan, preceded Edith in death. Edith is survived by her husband, Estel, three step sons, Rick, Ron and Brian, a sister, Sharon Stoecklein and husband, Harold, three granddhildren, Jeremy Wood and wife Shannon; Dustin Wood; and Brad Wood and wife, Jolene; four great grandchildren, Emily, Alexis, Ian and Jenna Wood; niece, Angie Gates and husband, Brian; nephew Deron Stocklein and wife, Kara; other relatives and many friends. Services were held Sunday, Feb. 17 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Officiated by Rev. Tom Sharp. Music selections played were "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "Amazing Grace" Casketbearers were Brad Wood, Jeremy Wood, Dustin Wood, Rick Wood, Ron Wood and Brian Wood. Interment was in Parks Chapel cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

WOOD, Hazel Lucretia Cox

Mrs. Hazel L. Wood, 86, Osceola, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City. Among survivors are two sons, Estel and Bill Wood, both of Osceola, and a daughter, Mrs. Jeanie Thomas, Osceola. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola. Burial will be in the Iconium Cemetery near Osceola.

WOOD, Jack Allen

Jack Wood, Osceola, was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Iconium to the late Joe and Audra Wood. He passed away at this home on March 24, 2005, at the age of 79. On May 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Maxine Foster. To this union, three children were born: Ronald Ray, Jacqueline Elaine, and Robert LeRoy. Jack was very active in business for 17 1/2 years in Versailles where he owned and operated Frigid Food Service and Wood Oil Company. In 1969 he moved back to the farm of his birthplace, east of Osceola where he truly enjoyed his cattle farming. Jack was a member of Hopewell Baptist church where he served as a deacon and taught a men's Sunday school class. Jack served on the Sac-Osage Electric Coop Board of Directors for several years. He was a member of the Iconium Fire Department and Treasurer of the Iconium Cemetery. Jack is survived by his wife, Maxine, of 58 years; his son, Ron and his wife, Karen of Harrisonville; his daughter Jacquie Brewer and her husband, Wayne of Versailles; and his son, LeRoy and his wife, Via of Osceola. He also leaves a sister, Jean Sheldon and her husband, Charley of Osceola; and a sister, Elaine Mitchell of Neosho. He also leaves nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola, with Rev. Ken Bolton and Rev. Gineth Hudson officiating. Music selection was by Derek Wood, vocalist, Barbara Garlick, accompanist, and Dorothy Turner, vocalist. Casketbearers were Tony Stephens, Bo Holland, Derek Wood, Brent Stephens, D. J. Wells, Brad Holland, Greg Wood, Craig Noland Wood, Zaven Stephens and Zack Wells. Honorary casketbearers were the Hopewell Men's Sunday school class. Burial was in the Iconium Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

John Ollie Wood was born February 22, 1928, in Rosedale, Kan., to Elmer S. and Daisy Ehrhardt Wood and departed this life September 27, 2007, in Osceola, after an eight-month battle with cancer. John lived in Osceola from age two until 1946 when he was united in marriage to Orvella Carriker and they moved to Kansas City. This union of 61 beautiful years was blessed with three children, their late daughter Kay Rodabaugh of Lowry City, two sons, Steven M. Wood and wife Peggy of Grain Valley, and Robin J. Wood and wife Patti of Collins, 12 grandchildren, Terry Rodabaugh, Pam Bartz, Joe Wathen, Mary Bedsworth, Diane Champ, Tonya Ramel, Stefanie Kaylor, Chrissy Morrison, Adam Wood, Jessie Whitlock, Dustin Silvers, Mario Guerrero, and 25 great-grandchildren. John was the ever mischievous child who delighted in pestering his three sisters, Pauline Riley, Mary Cauthon, and Betty Ballou and one brother Elmer Wood, Jr. This continued well into their adulthood. While living in the Kansas City area, John worked 15 years for the railroad and then became a self-employed contract hauler until he retired in 1976. At that time John and Orvella returned to make their home in the rural Osceola area that they loved so much. John loved life in so many ways whether spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, working in his flower and vegetable gardens, or enjoying countless hours with his faitful 4-legged companion, Bill. He and Orvella were well known throughout the area for their love of auctions, antiques, and their companionship together. You seldom saw one without the other. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, John showed his love to his family in many ways. He valued the time spent with them and was always full of laughter, smiles, and songs. He was famous for his humorous expressions, twinkling blue eyes, and opinionated thoughts. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, brother Junior Wood, sister Mary Cauthon, and daughter, Kay Rodabaugh. Left to mourn deeply inclue his wife, Orvella, sons Steven and Robin, daughters-in-law, Peggy and Patti, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Paulline Riley and Betty Ballou, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Though gone from our presence John will forever be in our hearts and minds. Services were Saturday, Sept. 29, at the First Baptist Church of Osceola with Reverend Scott Hill and Reverend James Coleman officiating. Muscial selections were "Beulah Land", "Unclouded Day" and "Amazing Grace". Casketbearers were Mario Guerrero, Dale Ballou, Terry Rodabaugh, Dustin Silvers, Adam Wood and Joseph Wathen. Honorary casketbearers were Johnnie Anderson, Rex Phillips, Mark Cauthon, Ernest Wood and Lynn Rodabaugh. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

WOOD, Margaret A. Brenizer

In Memoriam - Margaret A. Brenizer was born April 19, 1834, in Morrow County, Ohio. She was married to Albert A. Wood in 1855, in Ohio. To this union three children were born: Frank of Longton, Kansas, Alice (now deceased), and Miss Emma who was her companion in her old age. She was raised in the United Brethren faith and was ready and willing to leave this world for a brighter, better home. She came to Missouri in 1877 and has lived here ever since. She leaves 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one sister, of Conrad, Iowa.
Mrs. Wood had lived in Rockville 43 years, at the same home and was 86 years old at her death. She was of a very friendly and hospitable turn of mind, and her home was sought by all, where good cheer and hearty welcome were always found. One of her chief characteristics was her love of her home and her children, which made her a mother and homemaker in the truest sense. Her mind was rich in all those qualities that make for true friendship and the perfume of her life will linger long in the community and her name will be spoken in loving remembrance. Mrs. Wood was preceded to the grave by her husband about ten years ago, and since that time her daughter Miss Emma has been her loving companion, and much sympathy is now felt for her, as she is left alone in the home. Mrs. Wood was a great needle woman and like Dorcas of old, left much of her work behind her. Her funeral was held Tuesday at her home, Rev. Mathews officiating, and the many beautiful flowers spoke in silent eloquence of the love and esteem in which she was held. After the funeral obsequies, she was laid to rest in the City Cemetery beside her late husband. - "It is almost over now, - My life work is nearly done, - A few more stitches yet I trow; - Long it seems since I begun; - And the thread of many years - Has been sometimes soiled by tears, - Knotted, too, by cares and fears, - Look, my children, everywhere, - O'er my work and heart is spread - This bright gleaming from the air, - Blotting out my trembling dread; - From the light such joy I take -
That ye must not murmur make - If thus sitting, life's thread break. - Only put my chair aside, - And in gentle accents say-Mother worked here 'till she died - With God's love light on her way."

WOODFORD, Ita J. Burchett

DIED - Mrs. Ita Woodford, on the 7th day of July, 1892. She was born March 25, 1874, in St. Clair county, Missouri, since 1887, she had lived in Collins, On June 28th he gave her heart and hand to Ira Woodford, of Weaubleau City, and was his loving and devoted wife until death so rudely entered the home and carried the bright spirit to its heavenly home. She is gone. The death angel came "like a thief in the night" and stole her away. We miss her kind words and sweet smiles, but we well know that where she has gone all the good have gone, and all other may go if they put their trust in Him who doeth all things well.

A.C. Woods was born Jan. 23, 1934 in Chalk Level to Ben and Esther Fern [Cone] Woods. He passed away Dec. 19, 2008 at his home. A.C. graduated from Osceola High School in 1951. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Army Ordinance Corps of the United States Armed Forces from Dec. 6, 1955 to Dec. 5, 1957.
On May 22, 1959, in Butler, A.C. was united in marriage to Frances M. Crowl. To this union two sons were born. A.C. was a mechanic specializing in heavy equipment mechanics and operation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osceola and was confirmed as a Deacon at Gerster Baptist Church. A.C. was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Ramona Woods in infancy. and Maxine Woods in 2006. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of the home; two sons, Chris Woods and wife Barbara, Osceola, Tim Woods and wife Jami, Osceola; three grandchildren, Adam Cayenne and Jeremy; one sister Rayona Harris, Osceola; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services were held Sunday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church, Osceola with Greg Mangum officiating. Casketbearers were Jerry Shelby, Larry Shelby, Basil Hildebrand, Mark Cone, Dean Jones and Gerald Brown. Interment was in Kidds Chapel Cemetery.

WOODS, Billy Taylor

Billy Taylor Woods was born on a farm near Stockton June 1, 1919, to Alva B. and Molly Castleberry Woods and died Monday, December 29, 2003, at Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola. He was 84. He farmed with his father and was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the Army Air Corps from 1941-45, serving 32 months in Australia and New Guinea. He married Donna Lou Wilson of Deepwater November 7, 1944. He was employed with Dickey Tile Factory in Deepwater, 1946-1953, along with crop farming and milking cows. He worked on numerous construction jobs and with the beginning ground work at the Kansas City Power and Light Plant in Montrose. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Lou; his parents, Alva and Molly Woods; brothers, Arlie and Harry Molder, Guy Woods, sisters, Clara Sampsel, Bessie Armstrong, Jesse Armstrong and two great-granddaughters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Carolyn Woods, Roscoe; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Larry Cutler, Della and Jerry Peterson, Fairen Coleman, Glindell and Robert Price Jr., Cleta and Mike Clark, Taloa and Johnny Culbertson, Lowry City, Naressa and Ed Veach, Osceola; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Abbie Woods, Lowry City; sister, Flossie Bledsoe, Clinton; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were Friday, January 2, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola. Burial was in Deepwater Cemetery.

WOOLERY, Elton Clifford

Elton Clifford Woolery was born September 5, 1919, near Lowry City, son of David Aaron and Helen Almeta Bell Woolery, and died Sunday, December 9, 2001, at Golden Valley Hospital at the age of 82 years. He served his country during World War II with the Army and was honorably discharged in September 1945. On January 31, 1945, he was married to Geraldine Hopkins. She died in 1984. He married Bessie Ahearn on November 22, 1986, and she survives of the home. He was a barber in the Kansas City area for 20 years and a longtime truck driver for Clearfield Cheese, Skyline Trailers and Tracker Boats. He was a member of Butler Assembly of God Church, a deacon at Clinton Assembly of God Church, a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and VFW Post 11242. He is survived by his wife, Bessie, of the home; one brother, Ray Woolery of Cedarcreek; two daughters, Retta Dircksen and husband, Joe, Owings Mill, Maryland, and Cheryl Brown of Phoenix, Arizona; two stepdaughters, Leoma Neale and husband, Jim, Appleton City, Carolyn Ahearn of Hannibal; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and also a special adopted family, Darryl, Misty, Brandon, Isaac and Nolan Preston, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services were Thursday, December 13, at 2 p.m. at Assembly of God Church, Butler. Military services were under the direction of VFW Post #1894, Clinton. Burial was in Osceola Cemetery.

WRIGHT, Alma Jean Bennett

Alma Jean Wright was born May 20, 1932, in New Home Township, Bates County, Mo., to Marshall H. Bennett and Victoria Pauline (Goodwin) Bennett. She died April 20, 2007, age 74, at the University of Kansas Medical Center after suffering a stroke three weeks earlier. Alma Jean grew up in rural Bates County, Mo., and in Independence, Mo., graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1950, and subsequently married Ervin Finis Wright of Lowry City, Mo., on Aug. 19, 1950. Throughout the remainder of their lives, they jointly farmed and ranched in the Ohio community of St. Clair County, Mo., located halfway between Appleton City and Lowry City. While still continuing to farm and ranch, they moved from the farm to a home in Lowry City in 1979, where Alma Jean resided at the time of her death. In addition to nearly 50 years working on the farm, Alma Jean also spent many years commercially transporting livestock to the Kansas City Stockyards and then spent several years as the Older Adult Transportation Service (OATS) driver in both St. Clair and Henry counties. To their marriage union were born two sons, Randy Ervin Wright, on October 1, 1952, and David Lee "Dave" Wright on January 2, 1962. Alma Jean took great pride in her role as "Mom" to her boys. Becoming "Grandma" to her only granddaughter, Lauren, who was born on August 16, 1991, was one of the greatest joys of her life. With Ervin's death on July 7, 1999, after a prolonged battle with cancer, she lost her life partner and the love of her life.
Alma Jean was always very actively involved in the community through numerous organizations. As a young woman, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, holding numerous offices, including Worthy Matron. Throughout her life, she was actively involved in local politics, was elected committeewoman from her township for more than 20 years, and chaired more than her share of political potluck dinners and fundraisers. When her youngest son, Dave, entered high school, she became very actively involved in supporting the newly-formed Vocational Agriculture Program, FFA Chapter, FTA Chapter, and other school activities and events. She was a charter member of the Appleton City FFA Alumni and served as its first Vice-President during the late 1970s. She became known as "Mom" to both FFA and FTA members because she nearly always attended their field trips and activities as a chaperone and driver. She was recognized by the Appleton City FFA Chapter with the "Distinguished Service Award" and with the "Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree." In 1981, she was also recognized by the Missouri FFA Organization with the "Honorary State Farmer Degree." She was devoted to serving youth and to assisting the elderly throughout her life. Alma Jean was saved as a young girl and united with the First Christian Church of Rich Hill. In August 1996, she was rebaptized in the Osage River near Osceola, Mo., with her husband, Ervin, and they both joined High Hill Missionary Baptist Church near Osceola, where she continued to be a member at the time of her death. Alma Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, and by both of her parents. She is survived by two sons, Randy Wright of Appleton City, Mo., and Dave Wright of Blue Springs, Mo., and one granddaughter, Lauren Wright of Blue Springs. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, Mo., officiated by Brother Dale Walkup. The Eulogist was Dave Wright. Music was provided by Gail Ingle. Casketbearers were: Terry Rusconi, Leland Browning, Troy Scranton, Jim Howe, Mark Ray, Richard Anderson, Mike Byard and Matt Kamphoefner. Honorary casketbearers were: Dale Pasley, Lloyd Davis, John Kern, Theron King, Frank Wright, Martin Halfert, John B. Browning, Dr. Arthur Bourland, Doug Wisner, Burleigh Wheeler, Don Ghere and Larry Walters. Interment and graveside services followed at Lowry City Cemetery, Lowry City, Mo., under the direction of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations were made in her honor to the Alma Jean Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit FFA members or students pursuing the post-secondary study of agriculture. WRIGHT, Anna Thelma

Anna Thelma Wright, age 90, was born August 10, 1917 to Charles Cleveland and Retta Wade [Parks] Wright at the family home in the Wright's Creek Community of Lowry City. She departed this life peacefully on April 15 at the Sac Osage Hospital in Osceola after a lengthy illness. She and her five brothers and sisters grew up within walking distance in the shadow of Wright's Creek Baptist Church. When she was 17 years of age, she was saved in the summertime revival, at the afternoon service, at the "Mourner's Bench" in the Wright's Creek Baptist Church. She described it as a "very happy day". She described with great clarity this 'time and place' in her life as late as Monday night, April 1, when she entered the hospital for the last time. Her final words on the subject were, "Everything is OK". The revival was held by C.J. Bybee. She joined the Wright's Creek Baptist Church just before the beginning of World War II. In 2004 she joined the Sharon Baptist Church in Lowry City and was a member until her death. One of the joys of her recent life, as related to her niece, was being able to go to church as long as her health allowed and sit under the gospel she had heard when a child as preached now by her nephew, Elder J.C. Baker. After her years of childhood where she attended school at Wright's Creek, as World War II drew nigh, she went to Kansas City with four of her cousins to work at the Pratt Whitney Company. She worked on an assembly line to build parts that fitted into the tail section of warplanes. She advanced and became a mail and parts courier and would move around the plant on roller skates to deliver assembly parts to different lines. She took pride in this as only a few were chosen for this particular job. She later worked 26 years for the National Bellas Hess Mail Order Company until it closed. She later worked for White Publishing Company as a print setter. She retired in 1980 and moved to Clinton and cared for her mother and brother until their deaths. The last five years, she had been a resident ot Truman Lake Manor at Lowry City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers; Ralph, Melvin and Howard Wright and her two sisters, Ethyl Artz and Ada Baker. Those who remain will miss her. They are her five nephews; Charles Frank Artz, Billy Dean Artz, Lonnie Baker, J.D. Baker and Levi Wright. She will be fondly remembered by her four nieces; Patricia Bauer, Phyllis Snodgrass, Beverly Dull and Sandra Braithwait. She is also survived by two sisters in law, Fae Wright Eaton and Cora Wright. Services were held April 19 at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Elder J.D. Baker officiating. Interment followed at the Wright's Creek Cemetery, Lowry City. Arrangements by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

A. A. "Bud" Wright was born May 20, 1911, at Talley Bend, son of Taylor and Catharine Cross Wright. He died December 4, 2001, at his home. He was a member of Lowry City Baptist Church, VFW Post 1894 and the American Legion. He was a self-employed truck driver. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Marjorie Smith at Osceola in 1993. He loved fishing with Marjorie. His illness required him to be homebound for the last six months and Marjorie lovingly cared for him.  Preceding him in death were his first wife, Edna, September 1964; three sisters, Blanche Hoover, Helen Ruffenaucht and Eathel Caffey; four brothers, Roy, Nat, Russel and Willard. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of the home; three sons, Arnold Allen Wright, Port Aransas, Texas, Newton T. Wright, Clinton, and Harold Wright and wife, Vickie, Calhoun; one daughter, Phena (Penny) Eickelberger, Clinton; two brothers, Dennis Wright and wife, Mary Jane, Lawson, Dayton Wright and wife, Dora, Collins; one sister, Czrena Shulse, Clinton; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, plus stepchildren, step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held December 8 at Consalus Chapel-Clinton. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery with military honors.

WRIGHT, Clairene Wilkins
Clairene Wright, age 83, passed away on November 19, 2008. Clairene was the daughter of Clarence and Mary Lila Wilkins of Lowry City. She attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar and later attended college in Warrensburg. Shr taught school at Little Jewel and Ohio. She retired from J.C. Penny Co. in Kansas City, Kansas. She belonged to London Heights Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Willard Wright. She is survived by one son, Paul; two brothers; James Wilkins and wife of Deepwater and Leo Wilkins and wife of Bolivar; one sister-in-law, Cyrena Schulse of Lowry City; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Wright of Lawson and Dayton Wright of Lowry City. Interment was held at the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City.

Ed was a Marine. He was married to Janice Cooper, who survives of the home. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for the Bayer Company for 21 years, before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janice, of the home; one son, Scott Wright and wife Brenda, Kansas City; one granddaughter, Lori Arn; one great-grandson, Michael Armendariz; three brothers, Melford Wright and wife Mildred, Holden, Lorenzo Wright and wife Marie, Clinton, and Junior Wright, Lowry City; four sisters, Ila Osborne and husband Harry, Lowry City, Clarice Arnsmeyer and husband Harold, Kansas City, Leta Baker, Lone Jack, and Winnie Brack, Clinton, and one brother-in-law, Larry Cooper and wife Marjory, Clinton. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Dixon and Rev. Lloyd Arnsmeyer officiating. Henry Franklin Duke Wright, of Lowry City, was born May 17, 1932 and passed away Nov. 4, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City. Frank was born east of Lowry City at Valhala, Missouri to Ander and Mabel Duke Wright. He was one of seven children; six sisters completed the family. Fern, Ruby, Wilma, Audrey, Wanda and Ailene. Fern and Ruby preceded Frank in death. From an early age he attended New Hope Baptist Church in Clinton under Rev. Hugh Sperry. In a Sunday morning service in 1948 he was saved and was baptised east of Clinton at the Sperry Lake. On Dec. 3, 1951, he married Margaret Dodson in Harrison, Arkansas. To this union two children were born; Carolyn and John. In 1953 he started his own milk route picking up milk in most of western St. Clair County. He continued this until 1964 when he started working in the afternoons for Reser Ford Motor Company in Osceola. He continued this until he sold the milk route and worked full time at Resers, a professison lasting some 30 plus years. He also worked at Zink Motor Company in Appleton City for five years. Frank is survived by his wife, Margaret, of the home; daughter Carolyn and husband Gary Wood of Clinton; son John and wife Donna of Archie; four grandchildren, Amanda Johnson and husband Gary of Clinton, Curtis Gregory of Harrisonville, Michael Wright and wife Jennifer of Drexel, Melissa Tomlinson and husband Jayson of Archie; Six Great-grandchildren, Chase, Caleb and Chloe Wright of Drexel, Brayden Gregory of Clinton,, Tyler Johnson of Clinton and Seth Tomlinson of Archie; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Nancy Chandler of Clinton and many friends and neighbors. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 8, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. The minister was Rev. Bob Fenwick Music; "Amazing Grace" and Precious Lord Take My Hand" by Harold and Philena Scott. Casketbearers were Wayne Higgins, Sean Langston, George Bellis, Randy Wright, Lewis Thomas and David Osborn. Honorary Casketbearers were Marvin Zeiler and Arthur Bourland. Interment followed at Lowry City Cemetery.

WRIGHT, Melford Davis

Melford Davis Wright passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at KU Med Center. He was born on Sunday, March 8, 1925, in Valhalla. His parents were Reverend Elmer Patterson Wright and Edna Mae (Foster) Wright. He was the fifth of eight children and the first boy. He attended Bolivar and Lowry City Schools, and graduated from Lowry City High School. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the U.S. Navy and served primarily aboard the submarine tender U.S.S. Sperry. After discharge from the Navy, he attended agricultural school on the GI bill. He also worked at Kansas City's Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac plant as an assembler. He married Mildred Alliene Lee on July 23, 1948 in Raytown, and they were blessed with 55 years of marriage. A daughter, Eileen Wright Stevick, was born on Oct. 13, 1949. The family moved from Kansas City to the Holden area in April of 1951, and began farming. A son, Melford Lee Wright, was born on Nov. 24, 1955. A second son, James Allen Wright, was born on Jan. 5, 1961. Melford was a farmer for 35 years. He also worked at Stahl specialty Co. in Kingsville from 1961 until his retirement in 1986. Along with Mildred, Melford enjoyed his senior years by taking many trips across the United States adn Canada. Until his health began to fail, he was also an early morning walker at the Community Activity Center. Melford was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship. Through that association, he and Mildred helped sponsor missionaries to the Phillipines and Australia. They also funded a Christian broadcast on KOKO radio for over 40 years. Melford was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, an infant sister, a brother Edmond Francis Wright, and a sister Ila Zella Osborn. Melford leaves behind his daughter Eileen Stevick and husband Ron of Raymore, his son Melford Wright and wife Sandy of Lone Jack, his son James Wright and wife Lisa of Holden; his grandchildren Brian Stevick and wife Carrie of Leawood, Kan., Michael Stevick of Olathe, Kan., Benjamin Wright of Lee's Summit, Crystal Wright of Lone Jack, Aubrey, Elliott, and Elizabeth Wright of Holden, and two great-grandchildren, Colton Lee Stevens and Austin Brian Stevick. Also remaining behind are three sisters, Leta Grace Baker, Winnie Lorene Brack, and Clarice Pauline Arnsmeyer and two brothers, Lorenzo Hiram Wright, and Elmer Patterson Wright Jr. He shall be sorely missed. Funeral Services were Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, with Rev. Martin Gipe of Calvary Baptist Church in Climax Springs, officiating. Interment followed in the Holden Cemetery wtih Military Graveside Rites by V.F.W. Post 5844 and American Legion Post 90. Pallbearers were Benjamin Wright, Brian Stevick, Dale Baker, Gay Hardman, Michael Stevick, Gary Wright, Don Bush and Greg Wright.

Milton F. Wright - Grandpa Wright passed away Monday evening, July 8, and was buried in the Bible Cemetery Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held from the Woolworth home, where the Wrights were staying. Rev. Barty Garrett preached the funeral sermon. This good old man lived to a good old age, being 85 years old. He leaves his wife and four children, three sons and one daughter, and a host of friends to mourn his departure.

Nancy Hannah Wright - Grandma Wright, who had been very poorly all spring, passed away at the home of her son Deck, Saturday night, and was buried in the Bible Cemetery Sunday afternoon. Rev. Barty Garrett preached the funeral sermon at the house at 1 o'clock Sunday. Deceased was 75 years old and had been a resident of Caddo and Canadian counties for a number of years and had many friends besides a host of relatives to mourn her departure. To know her was to love her. Her husband preceded her in death about one month.

WRIGHT, Susie Annie Parks

Susie Annie Parks was born May 21, 1893 to John William Parks and Rosa Annie Duff Parks in St. Clair County. She departed this life October 11, 1993, at the Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton, at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 21 days. Susie professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at the age of 16 when she joined the Wright's Creek Baptist church. Susie was married to John Grover (Glow) Wright on June 9, 1912. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. She is survived by a daughter, Jewell Harvey of Kansas City, a son, Herman C. Wright of Clinton, a son, Kenneth R. Wright of Kearney, and a daughter, Freda Tally of Clinton. Another daughter, Erma Allard of Winnipeg, Canada preceded her in death in 1990. Susie was one of five children born to the Parks family. Her eldest sister, Retta Wright, died in 1988 at 99 1/2 years, a brother Charles died in 1977, a sister, Ella Pilant, age 95 1/2 resides in Clinton. During much of their early married life Glow and Susie lived in the Lowry City vicinity where Glow farmed and did carpenter work. Eventually Glow went to work for the railroad as a machinist. His service occurred in Pittsburg, Ks. and Kansas City where he retired. After this death in 1979, Susie continued to reside in Kansas City until 1986 when she moved to Clinton. Susie was a devoted wife and mother and will be sorely missed by friends and relatives. Other surviving relatives include 12 grandchildren, Mrs. Kay Hayworth of Olathe, Ks., Mrs. Ronda Prewitt of Braymer, Jeanie Butcher of Kansas City, Susie and Lina Wright of Kearney, Mrs. Judy Richardson of Independence, Mrs. Martha Schake of Kremmling, Colorado, Dennis Allard, Mike Allard, Sandra Allard, Maurice Allard, all of Winnipeg, Canada and James Allard of Seattle, Wa. There are also 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 14, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, with Rev. William Ritchie officiating. WRIGHT, Vincent Roy

Vincent Roy Wright, 91, Springfield, formerly of Collins, passed away March 19, 2006, in Maranatha Village, Springfield. He was born August 21, 1914, in Collins to Roy and Electa Jones Wright. He moved to California and taught seventh and eighth grade math and science for the Santa Clara School for several years. He then moved back to Collins and taught in the school districts of Cabool, Weaubleau, Osceola and Humansville before his retirement. He was a member of the Coon Creek Baptist Church, Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Wright; and his daughter, Sarah. Survivors include a son, Dale Wright, Carlsbad, Calif.; two daughters, Marcia Hunter, Los Gatos, Calif.; and Janet Wright, San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Graveside services were Tuesday, March 21, at Robinson Cemetery with Reverend Jon Caudle officiating under the direction of Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland.

WRIGHT, William Albert

William Albert Wright was born February 16, 1926, in Valhalla, Missouri, to William Van and Marth (Major) Wright and died February 1, 2006, in St. Joseph. He married Irene Corum August 21, 1951. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. While in the Army he achieved the rank of Corporal. He is survived by his wife of the home Irene; two daughters, Debbie Sue Wright and Kelly Joe Ann Knepp, and husband Clayton III; one brother Cecil Wesley Wright, El Dorado, Illinois; one granddaughter, Bailey Pearl James; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with burial in Appleton City Cemetery.

Wyeth Leland Wuthnow, 78, Lowry City, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola. Funeral services were Monday, April 4, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Deepwater. Burial was in Lowry City Cemetery.

WYATT, Ida Horsman

Ida Horsman Wyatt, age 96 of Osceola, passed away Jan. 15, 2008. She was born April 14, 1911, in Ohio, to James Monroe and Mary O'Dell [Link] Horsman. On April 27, 1934, she was united in marriage toOsie E. Wyatt. To this union, one son, James [Jimmy} E. Wyatt was born. Ida was a life long resident of St Clair County and was happiest with the simple pleasures in life. A woman of few words and complaints, she was a loving and caring mother. Her neighbors and friends would often pop in to buy strawberries and eggs. Ida loved her pets and the outdoors. Her garden was a source of pride and joy and she canned and froze much of their winter food. When the snow flew, she spent time piecing and quilting homemade quilts. Modern appliances weren't important to Ida. Some of her family's fondest memories are of the breads and pies she baked in her wood cook stove. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Teddy T. Horman.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy, of the home, a sister, Edna Pickell, of Osceola, several nieces, nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was loved and will be dearly missed. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 19 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Officiated by Rev. Neal Holt. Music selections were "In the Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross" by soloist Richard Sunderwirth with Gail Ingle, accompanist.
Casketbearers were Wes Leiber, Wayne Redburn, Jody Redburn, Donnie Hash, David Best and Lance Thorn, Jr. Interment was in Kings Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

WYATT, Richard Wayne

Richard Wayne Wyatt was born Sept. 12, 1959 in Osceola to Albert and Beulah Irene Bird Wyatt. He passed away on Dec. 8, 2006, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield. Richard was disabled for several years and lived the last six years at Partners In Your Community, El Dorado Springs. He is surivived by one brother, Lee Wyatt, Belton; two sisters, Jean Dykes, Lee' Summit and Opal Wilkerson, Collins; nieces; nephews; his caregivers of Partners In Your Community and friends. Services for Richard were Sunday, Dec. 10, at King's Prairie Cemetery with Greg Mangum officiating. Interment was in the Kings Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
