JACKSON, David

David Jackson, well and favorably known, died at his home in Lowry City Tuesday, September 2, 1919. His death was the results of his advanced age and a prolonged chronic trouble of several months standing. He was about eighty years of age at the time of his death. He had resided in Lowry City about fifteen years. He leaves an aged wife, several sons and daughters, all of whom are long since grown and married. One son resides in Lowry City, the other children reside elsewhere. The funeral service was held at his residence last Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.M. Hawkins. The interment of his remains was in the City Cemetery attended by relatives and a number of old friends.

JACKSON, Ernest Edward

Ernest Edward Jackson - Ernest Edward Jackson was born Aug. 4, 1898 in St. Clair County, Mo., the son of Charles Clayborn Jackson and Rosella A. Stark Jackson. He died Feb. 11, 1989 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Mo., at the age of 90. On April 17, 1923 he was united in marriage to Dortha Christina Holm. Except for a few years as a young man living in the state of Washington he lived his entire life in the Bates County area. Mr. Jackson was a farmer and a truck driver, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Adrian Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bernie Jackson and one sister, Laura Rabourn. He leaves his wife of the home; four sons, Orville, Jackson and Charles Jackson, both of Butler, Gilbert Jackson of Adrian and Ronnie Jackson of Appleton City. Mo.; four daughters, Lucille H. West of Leavenworth, Kan., Margaret Fern Long of Bella Vista, Ark.; Christine B. Ryan and Eileen Smith of Concord, Calif.; two brothers, Carl Jackson of Archie, Mo., and Wesley Jackson of Amsterdam, Mo; three sisters, Maudie Smith of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Josephine Hockett of Adrian, Eula Manser of Butler; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Feb. 14 at the Underwood-Steinbeck-Schowengerdt Chapel in Butler with Charles Surbough officiating and burial in the Adam Howell Cemetery near Butler.

JACKSON, John Martin

John Martin Jackson, 98, Wheatland, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, at Golden Valley Hospital, Clinton. He was born in Iconium on November 16, 1902. He married Junie Belle Schiller on April 28, 1921, of Kansas City, Ks., and they were married for 74 years. He was a standing member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and was a member of Eastern Star. He helped form the senior center in 1977 and worked there for 20 years until 1998, but he continued to go until his death. Preceding him in death were his wife, Junie; two daughters, Phyllis Belk and Marie Bauer, and one grandson, David Talley of San Diego, California. Survivors include Lloyd and Deanie of Amsterdam, Clyde of Kansas City, Ks., Eddie of Deepwater, Robert of Hardin, Ks., Bernice Talley of Clinton, Dorothy Chaney and Betty of Wheatland; several grandchildren and great-grandchidlren. Funeral services will be Monday at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home Chapel, Wheatland. Burial will be in Iconium Cemetery.

JACKSON, James Marion M.

Marion Jackson was born near Collins on April 4, 1876 and passed away in his home in Roscoe October 19, 1957 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 15 days. He was married to Lee Count Williams in 1897. No children were born to this union. Mrs. Jackson passed away many years ago. He moved to the Roscoe community in 1905 and had lived in or near Roscoe since that time. He was honest, truthful, industrious and a good neighbor to all. He was made a Master Mason in 1919 and was a member of Roscoe Circle Lodge A.F. & A.M. since that time. Immediate survivors include a stepson, Eula Williams of Roscoe, three sisters, Laura Evans of Glendale, Calif., Dolly Finley of Liberty, Mo. and Pet Minks of Higginsville, Mo., a brother J.W. Jackson, Belaire, Texas and twenty one grandchildren Funeral services were held at the Roscoe Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Paul Coltharp officiating. Graveside services conducted by the Roscoe Masonic Lodge. Burial was at the Benton Green Cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.

JACKSON, Mildred Morris

Mildred Jackson was born Nov. 27, 1916 in Lowry City to Claude E. and Mary [Crawford] Morris. She passed away Oct. 28, 2008, at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City. On Oct. 10, 1935, she was united in marriage to Amos Jackson and to this union three sons were born, Edward L., Morris Wayne and Amos E. Jackson. At an early age Mildred was saved then was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church, Lowry City, and later became a member of Pleasant Springs Baptist Church in rural St. Clair County. Mildred is survived by her son, Amos E. Jackson, Clinton; four grandchildren; Claudia Jackson and companion Mike, Shaun Jackson and wife Kim, Lisa Ross and husband Clay and Aaron Jackson and wife Kim; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward O. Morris; sister Della Jenkins; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held Friday, Oct. 31 at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola with Rev. Everett smith officiating. Music was by Richard Sunderwirth and Gail Ingle who sang "Precious Memories" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow".
Casketbearers were Melvin Tatum, Gene Swabby, Mark Naylor, Jay Knight, Elvin Higgins and Gary Jenkins.
Interment was in Lowry City Cemetery.

JACKSON, Nancy Lee Count Hardy Williams

Mrs. Marion Jackson - Nancy Lee Count Hardy was born in Hart County, KY July 19, 1853 and died January 22, 1935 at 4:25 p.m. at her home near Roscoe. She joined the Baptist church early in life and lived a faithful life to the end. She was united in marriage to W. P. Williams October 1874. To this union three children were born, one dying in infancy. Mary Elizabeth Burrow of Roscoe and Eula Williams of Oyer are left to mourn their loss.
She was united in marriage to Marion Jackson August 1898. She also leaves two brothers, 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The funeral was conducted at Pleasant Springs by J.B. Kirkland. Interment was made at the Benton Green Cemetery.

JAMES, Calvin

Calvin James was born in Tyler county, West Virginia, March 9, 1848; departed this life at his home in Roscoe, Mo., March 29, 1928, aged 89 years and 20 days. He was first married to Anna Taggart. To this union six children were born, two of whom (a daughter and son), and his wife, have preceded him to the Great Beyond. The four living children are: Mrs. Flora Anderson of Roscoe, Mo.; Mrs. Eta Wardrip of Griswold, Iowa; Al James of Bentonville, Mo.; Will James of Washington. He was married to Mrs. Eliz Moore in 1906, who survives him. He also leaves two brothers – Warren James of Quincy, MO., and Paul James of Oklahoma.
He was an old soldier of the Civil War, serving four years in the Union army. He united with the Christian Church in 1906. Funeral services were held in the Roscoe Christian church at 8 o’clock March 30, by E.D. Strohm, pastor of the church. He forcibly impressed the audience with the wonderful hope of immortality. In honor of the deceased all the business houses were closed for the funeral. -- Note: Roscoe Cemetery record lists: Calvin James, 9 March 1848 – 29 March 1928.

JAMES, Frederick Rogers

Frederick Rogers James was born on the Isle of Wite, England, June 11, 1838. He lived near the Osborne House, a county residence of the late Queen Victoria, (in which house she died) and at the age of 19 he came to America, living for one year in New York, after which he came to Osceola, Missouri which was in the year 1858 where he continuously resided until his departure for that "better country, which is an heavenly country." He departed this life about 12:25 July 21, 1910, making his age at death 72 years, 1 month, and 10 days.
October 5, 1883, he was married to Miss Fannie Puntney, of Lafayett Indiana. To this union 4 children were born, the two boys both having died in infancy, and the two girls, Mrs. Alma Merryfield, and Miss Ora and their mother being left to mourn his departure. They were permitted to be at his bedside to witness the peaceful passing. Bro. James was raised in the Episcopal faith, and loyal to its tenets. During the pastorate of Rev. Wm. Stephens, he united with the M. E. church in Osceola, and until disease prevented his doing so, was regular in attendence at all church services, and did his part in every way. His funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. T. Simmons, from the church, July 22, 1910, the interment being in Osceola cemetery.

JAMES, Wallace Lee

Wallace Lee James was born August 18, 1933 in Pleasant Hill to Homer Lee and Edna Mae [Hon] James. He passed away on March 5, 2009 at St. John's Medical Center, Springfield. On August 8, 1958, Wallace was united in marriage to Betty June Wiley. to this union three children were born, Larry, Sherry and Travis James.
Wallace served in Korea as a United States Marine. He retired from the logging industry in Sweet Home, Oregon in 1979. He spent most of his life in the construction business of one form or another. Wallace was a member of the Masonic Lodge #480 in Pleasant Hill. He was a good provider to his family and a trusted friend to many. Wallace was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Haynes. Wallace is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Larry James and wife Kim, Sweet Home, Oregon and Travis James, Lockwood; one daughter, Sherry James, Sweet Home, Oregon; two brothers, Ray James and wife Pat, Scio, Oregon and Larry James, Strasburg; one sister Carol Small, Pleaant Hill, his mother-in-law Ruth Wiley, Osceola, along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. Graveside services were Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at Osceola Cemetery The minister was Rev. Travis James. Interment at Osceola Cemetery, arrangements by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

JEFFERSON, Irene Edna Cox
Irene Edna Cox Jefferson was born on September 26, 1920 in Appleton City, Mo. She was the oldest daughter of the late Bernice Burdett Cox and Leora Yost Cox. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Sedalia, Mo, and received her Bachelor of Science from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. While attending Lincoln University she was the head of the Stenographic Bureau and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Irene and Billy Byrd Jefferson began their courtship at Lincoln University and were later wed June 12, 1948 in Sedalia, Mo. To this union two children were born, Billye Jeanne and Jan Elise. As a research librarian, Irene worked for the Santa Clara County Library System in the City of Milpitas, Ca, retiring after 18 years of service.
Irene was a member of the Sunnyhills Methodist Church in Milpitas, Ca, where she served as the pianist in the early beginnings of the church. Prior to that, she was a member of the Taylor Memorial M.E. Church, Sedalia, Mo. She served on various committees within Sunnyhills Methodist Church as well as other civic organizations.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leora Irene Cornelius Yost Cox; her father Bernice Burdett Cox; her brother Bernice Burdett Cox, Jr.; and her sister, Marleeta Ann Parks. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Billy Byrd Jefferson; her children, Billye Jeanne Alexander and Jan Elise Griffin; her sister, Mary Jane Young; her brother, Donald Lee Cox; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Charles Alexander, Jennifer Brooke Alexander, and Alison Irene Griffin; her son-in-law, Darrel Ernest Griffin; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews, loving relatives, and dear friends. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Fly As High As You Can And It Won’t Be Long ‘Til I See You Again.

JEFFRIES, William Carlyle

William Carlyle Jeffries - William Carlyle Jeffries, 59, El Dorado Springs, was born on Nov. 13, 1948, to Lyle and Lois Jeffries in Viroqua, WI. He passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008. Bill grew up in Roscoe, attended Osceola High School and received his diploma in 1966.  Bill was baptized in 1963 at the Roscoe Christian Church. He attended Missouri Bible College for a year and also attended college in Warrensburg. Bill lived in Albuquerque, NM, for a period of time. Bill dealt with severe challenges most of his life. He loved helping people and enjoyed their company. For the last several years, he worked for Pathways in El Dorado Springs.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lois Jeffries. Survivors include two brothers, Bob Jeffries and wife, Kathryn – Fair Play, and John Jeffries – Nevada; four sisters – Barbara Carter –Lamar, Margaret Dickerson – Warrensburg, Dorothy Hall – Denver, CO, and Mary Ewing and husband, Bobby – Pea Ridge, AR, and many beloved friends. Services were held Friday, Feb. 15, at Hackleman Chapel with Pastor Neil Dye officiating. Pallbearers were David Baxter, David Keeton, Steve Jeffries, Rich Segovia and Dan Sehubert. Interment followed in the Appleton City Cemetery under the direction of Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

JESSEE, Ethel Eugenia Graham

Former Vista Native Dies - Mrs. Ethel Eugenia Jessee died Saturday evening, June 2, at the Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. Mrs. Jessee, daughter of Enoch Webster Graham and Clara Sophia Graham, was born October 8, 1884 at Vista, Mo. She had been a resident of Kansas City and more recently of Clinton. She was a charter member of Vista Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Vansant Funeral Home Monday, June 4, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Harold E. Ballard, Rev. Loie Allen officiating. Interment was made in Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. Survivors are one brother, Homer O. Graham; four sisters, Mrs. Zeddie Hill, Osceola; Mrs. Maude Graham and Mrs. Hazel Mueller, Clinton, and Mrs. Minnie Glazebrook, Kansas City.

JESSEE, Forrest Virgil

Forrest V., age 76 years, of 701 Brooklyn, passed away March 16, 1960. Survived by wife Ethel Jessee of the home. Graveside services Friday 1 p.m. at the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Mo., in state at the chapel, 2117 Independence Blvd., Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
