DOAK, Imogene Effie Thomas

August 22, 1910 - February 11, 2004. Imogene E. Doak, daughter of W. Estel and Effie Mae (Smith) Thomas, was born August 22, 1910 in Hamden, Missouri. She departed this life February 11, 2004 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri at the age of 93 years. Imogene grew up in Greeley, Colorado. She met her husband, Wilson, at a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They were united in marriage February 24, 1932 and to this union two sons were born. In 1934 Imogene and Wilson moved back to Missouri where they farmed until 1965. Imogene became a Methodist minister’s wife in 1964 living and serving along with her husband in Sedalia, Nevada, Springfield and Rockville, Missouri. In 1977 they retired making their home in Appleton City, Missouri. Imogene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s group and P.E.O. Chapter CC all in Appleton City. She also belonged to the Homemaker’s Club in Chilhowee, Missouri. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Wilson Doak, and one son Thomas Doak. Survivors include one son Wilson Faris Doak, Jr. and wife Pat of Tacoma, Washington; daughter-in-law Della Doak of Appleton City, Missouri; one brother Glen Thomas of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; one sister Lucile McClung of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

DOAK, Thomas Sterling
February 3, 1938 - April 3, 2002. Thomas Sterling Doak, the son of Reverend Wilson Faris Doak and Imogene Effie (Thomas) Doak was born on February 3, 1938 in Chilhowee, Missouri. Tom passed away at the Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri on April 3, 2002 at the age of 64 years. Tom lived most of his life in the Lake Lotawana, Missouri area where he worked as an electronic technician at Western Electric/AT&T at Lee’s Summit. Following his retirement he moved to Mesquite, Texas, then moved back to Appleton City in 1997 to care for his parents. Tom was a member of the Methodist Church in Chilhowee, Missouri. He held several offices in the CWA Union 6360 and was a life member of both the Lee’s Summit Pioneers and the NRA. He was united in marriage to Della (McClarnon) Ricketts in May of 1981 at Lake Lotawana Memorial Rose Garden. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Della of the home, son Jeffery and wife Kris of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, daughter Kay Richards of La Monte, Missouri, son Leon and wife Kim Ricketts of Burleson, Texas, two grandsons Tyler Doak and John Ricketts, his mother Imogene Doak of Appleton City, one brother Wilson Faris Doak Jr, and his wife Pat, one niece and two nephews. Tom liked deer hunting and driving around the country enjoying the scenery and wildlife while smoking his cigar. He also enjoyed cooking for people and loved auctions and antiques. Tom found great peace and contentment in going to the ocean and simply listening to the surf. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

DOBBS, Ruth Nadyne Carpenter

Ruth Nadyne Dobbs was born September 29, 1917 in Osceola, Missouri to Dan and Roxie [Ray] Carpenter and passed away on March 19, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Nadyne attended teachers college in Bolivar and Warrensburg, Missouri. She taught school in Osceola for many years. On July 1, 1944 Nadyne was united in marriage to Harry C. Dobbs in Kansas City. Nadyne was a homemaker and then worked for the Social Security Office in Kansas City, Missouri as a claims processor for 16 years. Upon retiring in 1983 she was able to return to Osceola. Nadyne was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Garden Club, Senior Center and the Hospital Auxiliary. She helped organize the first All School reunion and enjoyed many trips with Richard's Fun Time Tours.  Nadyne truly loved living in Osceola and participated in many local acticvities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Roxie Carpenter, her husband, Harry and one brother,
Forest Lee Carpenter. Nadyne is survived by one daughter, Deborah Dobbs of Kansas City, Missouri, one nephew, Charles Lee Carpenter of San Antonio, Texas, sister-in-law, Julia Carpenter of San Antonio, Texas, other relatives and many friends. Services were Saturday, March 22 in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Rev. Scott Hill officiating. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Old Rugged Cross" with Donna Carney, soloist and Gail Ingle, accompanist. Casketbearers were her church family. Interment was in Osceola Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

DODDS, Naomi Willette Clark

Funeral services for Naomi W. Dodds will be at the Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Wednesday, October 30. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery. Naomi Willette Dodds, the daughter of George Ezra and Martha Ann (Smith) Clark, was born on March 7, 1907. She died at Big Bend Nursing Home in Slater on October 26, 1996, at the age of 89 years. Mrs. Dodds was born in Bates County, and lived in Appleton City and Rockville for several years before moving to Clinton and Nevada. She moved to Slater in 1991 where she spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Dodds taught school at Hudson and worked at Wynes Grocery Store in Appleton City and Lowry City and at J.C. Penney's in Clinton. She was united in marriage to Jason R. Dodds on April 25, 1933, in Calhoun. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1991. She was a member of the Nevada Christian Church. She is survived by two sisters, Esther J. Dixon of Slater and Virginia Ulrey of Kansas City; one sister-in-law, Sally Lou (Dodds) Steve of Nevada, and one brother-in-law, Murriel Dodds of ElDorado Springs, and several nieces and nephews.

DODSON, Jo Ann McPeak

Jo Ann McPeak Dodson, 53, Carterville, was born in Humansville, on Aug. 2, 1955, the daughter of David Howard and Alice Joan Bozarth McPeak. She departed this life on Dec. 16, 2008, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Aaron Hutchcraft, in Carterville, surrounded by her loving family. Because Jo was a pastor's daughter, she attended several different schools including El Dorado Springs, Carl Junction and Keosauqua, IA, for grade school and high school in Keosauqua, IA, Humansville, and Lordsburg, NM, where she graduated. Jo married Gabriel G. Guerrero Jr. in 1976, in Lordsburg, NM. To this union one daughter, Barbara Ann, was born. Barbara was her mother's pride and joy. Jo was more than a mother, she was also a friend and mentor to Barbara. Jo was married to Jim Dodson on April 22, 2000. They spent eight marvelous years together, the last year in Sarasota, FL, where she enjoyed sightseeing with Jim and family members who went to visit them. Jo's relationship with the Lord was the most important thing in her life. Enjoying her family and especially her five grandchildren coming in a close second. Preceding Jo in death were: her father-in-law, Warren Dodson; a very special sister-in-law, Beth Wilham McPeak; and an infant nephew, Ethan James Madden. Surviving are: the love of her life, husband, Jim Dodson, of the home in Sarasota, FL; daughter, Barbara Hutchcraft, and husband, Aaron – Carterville; step-daughter, Jill Evey, and husband, George – Carthage; her parents, Howard and Joan McPeak – El Dorado Springs; mother-in-law, Lillian Dodson - El Dorado Springs; three brothers – Les McPeak, and wife, Diane Robbins – Humansville, Eldon McPeak, and wife, Kristy – Carl Junction, and Chris McPeak, and wife, Leslie – Hallsville; one sister, Cheryl Ahlers, and husband, Gene – Humansville; brother-in-law, Joe Dodson, and wife, Sherrel - Blackjack; five grandchildren – Judah, Silas and Aleia Hutchcraft and Nicholas and Alyssa Evey, numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Jo was a shining light to everyone around her - wise counselor and good friend to numerous people in need. Her passion was sharing with others. She leaves an empty space in so many lives but she has graduated to a world free of cancer and pain, where she joins many dear loved ones who have gone before. Most of all, she looked forward to seeing her beloved Savior. We rejoice with her and look forward to a grand reunion one day. Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Services were held Saturday, Dec. 20, in the Sheldon Chapel with Pastor Joe Dodson officiating. Music was It Is Well With My Soul and How Great Thou Art by Sherrel Dodson. Interment under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home – El Dorado Springs, was in the Roscoe Cemetery. Casketbearers were – Joel McPeak, Ryan McPeak, Levi McPeak, Chris McPeak, Eldon McPeak and Les McPeak. Honorary casketbearers were – Jason Dodson, Justin Dodson, Ray Bozarth, Aaron Hutchcraft and George Evey.

Jo Ann McPeak Dodson, 53, Carterville, passed away Dec. 16, 2008 in her home. Among local survivors are her husband, Jim, and parents, Rev. Howard and Jo Ann McPeak. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, ElDorado Springs. Burial will be in the Roscoe Cemetery.

John Walter “J.W.” Dodson, 69, of Appleton City, Missouri passed away peacefully December 3, 2008. He endured his final illness under the tender and loving care of his niece, Sue Creach, and his children. He was born January 11, 1939 to Vernie and Lucille Dodson of rural Lowry City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Duane Dodson, who had also resided in Lowry City, Missouri. He is survived by his four children: Edie Dodson of Overland Park, Kansas, Brenda King of Blue Springs, Missouri, John Dodson of Overland Park, Kansas, Donna Leonard of Blue Springs, Missouri; five grandchildren: Jon King, Dalana King, Maddy Leonard, Noah Leonard and Christopher Dodson; his sister VernaLee Hawkins of Appleton City, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. J.W. started his career as a carpenter, and then operated the Skelly service station in Garden City, Missouri. He farmed with his brother, installed siding and was also employed at Bass Tracker. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting or just talking about it. One of his best attributes was his generosity. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Jim Wirkkula for his professional kindness, the many compassionate people from Heartland Hospice and Kristina, Sharon, Nancy, Rhonda and Wanda for helping us with the care of our Dad. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. DODSON, Wilford Duane

Wilford Duane Dodson was a lifelong resident of the Ohio community of rural Lowry City, Missouri. He was
born July 12, 1931 to Vernie and Edna Lucille (French) Dodson. He graduated from Appleton City High School and in 1952–1954 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. During that time he was a heavy equipment operator and with his bulldozer helped build roads, airways and building sites. He was asked to stay in the service and train others on the bulldozer but declined. After the service he returned to the family farm and to the farming operation he had begun prior to the service. He was a true farmer at heart and built his own cow herd from one original heifer along with trading his bull calves to his dad for more heifers. He purchased a bulldozer and when his farming allowed, enjoyed clearing trees and building ponds and waterways on his own property as well as for neighbors. He was also a very innovative welder and mechanic and made many pieces of equipment, repairs and improvements. Even in retirement Duane lived on the farm with the love of his life, Evelyn. They married in 1968 and from that time forward were constant and true companions. She spent many hours riding the tractor with him as well as sitting in the pick-up while he farmed or ran the dozer. They always grew a garden together and took pride in giving away a lot of it to neighbors and family. Duane always planted a large sweet corn patch for all to enjoy. He built a lake, stocked it with catfish and loved to have an annual fishing day with all the grandchildren attending. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the grandchildren grow up and in more recent years the great-grandchildren. Duane is survived by his wife Evelyn of the home; his daughter Joyce and her husband Gary Noakes of Lowry City, Missouri; a sister Vernalee and her husband Jim Hawkins of Appleton City, Missouri; a brother J.W. Dodson of Appleton City; an aunt, Florene French of Appleton City; several grandchildren: Annette and husband Pauley Bradley of De Soto, Kansas, Carrie and husband Jeremy Knuth of West Plains, Missouri, Matthew Noakes of Lowry City and Luke Noakes also of Lowry City. Duane also enjoyed and loved his many nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Ben of the home; one son, Brett Dody of Annandale, Virginia; two brothers, Marvin Zeiler of Osceola, Missouri and Chris Harrelson of Raymore, Missouri; three sisters, Barbara Littleton of Raymore, Missouri, Sharon Black of Killen, Alabama and Jan Parton of Hemet, California as well as five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

DOMANN, Darrel Duane

Darrel Duane Domann was born on October 24, 1936 in Ellsworth, Kansas to Dr. Gustav B. E. Domann and Anna Olive Domann, the youngest of their three children, he was an early over-achiever joining the Boys Scouts of America and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout as an early teen. He also joined the tribe of the Mic-O-Say as an early scout, earning the rank of runner and continuing his support of the boy scout camp throughout his life. Following his graduation from Lowry City high school he matriculated to Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri where he quickly fell in with the wrong crowd at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. His comedy, comradery and late-night revelry with this rowdy, debauched group was rewarded by their recognition of him as best pledge in 1955. Ultimately, "3D", as he was known then, met the love of his life, Barbara Holt Baker, while he and his SAE brothers were carrying in the bags of the new students at William Woods College. They were married on August 4, 1957. He graduated in 1958 from Westminster College and in 1962 from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Following his general surgery residency in Kansas City, Missouri and plastic surgery residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he set up practice in Springfield. He thoroughly enjoyed the practice of medicine thanks to the many great friends and colleagues throughout the years. He was blessed to have many great people working with him to make his success possible; he was particularly proud of having been a founder of the Crippled Children's Clinic which continues to do wonderful work for young people in need of corrective surgery. He was a member of the Missouri Board of Healing Arts, AMA, ASAPS, ASPS, Missouri Medical Association and Past-President of the Greene County Medical Society. He was an avid supporter of the University of Missouri and numerous other organizations and institutions. His love of flying was evident to all who knew him and allowed him to make some of the best friends in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav B. E. Domann and Anna Olive Domann; his wife, Barbara Holt Baker Domann; his sister, Mary Mae McCoy; and nieces, Lorelei McCoy and Pam Pence; and nephew, Patrick Baker. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann; sons, Gustav Kyle Albert and Karl Nikolaus Clay; daughter-in-law Cara; grandchildren, Katherine Domann, Eliana Domann and Nikolette Domann; his sister, Anita Settle; nieces Mary Wallen and her husband, Gary, Cheryl Ellis, Lila McCauley, Mary Jo Selig and her husband, Paul; nephews Dale Settle and Dr. William Baker and his wife, Mary; and numerous other cousins, relatives and friends. Darrel was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and physician. Darrel's enthusiasm for life, sense of humor and kindness will be missed by all. Harry Owen Donnohue, Appleton City was born February 21, 1914, and passed away November 8, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome T. and Minnie Dellar Donnohue, brothers Vern Guy and Albert Jerome Donnohue and his wife, Julia Miller Donnohue. He is survived by his daughter Ann D. Wallace and her husband Webb L. Wallace, Santa Fe., N.M.; grandson Michael R. Wallace and his wife Kate, Little Rock, Ark.; granddaughter Lindsley Lee and her husband Rob and great grandchildren Ryan and Meaghan Lee, Santa Fe, N.M.; nephews, Don Donnohue, Appleton City, Dick Gulick and David Gulick, St. Louis; niece Gayle Breaux, Denver, Colo.; Kay Overfelt Miller and William Bill Miller, Centralia; James Scott Miller, Leawood, Kans., and Martin Kent Miller, Cape Girardeau. Harry graduated from Appleton City High School and Kirksville State Teachers College. For a time he taught and was principal of Centralia High School. From 1941 until his retirement in 1976 he was employed by the A.B. Chance Company in Centralia. He was a life member of Moolah Temple Shrines, Rotary Club member since 1936, member of the Grand Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Missouri and Three Rivers Council of Boy Scouts of America. He served as an elder of the Centralia Christian Church and for the last two years had been active in the Christian Church of Appleton City. Harry was a faithful Christian, devoted to his family, loyal to his friends and enriched the life of all who knew him. Memorials may be sent to the Christian Church, 100 S. DONNOHUE, Ruby Della Piepmeier

Ruby Della Donnohue, daughter of Clyde Cecil and Gertrude Ann (Laney) Piepmeier, was born December 29, 1911 in Appleton City, Missouri. Ruby departed this life peacefully December 21, 2008 at Appleton City Manor at 96 years of age. Ruby was united in marriage to Emerson Kirk December 23, 1939 in Calhoun, Missouri. They moved to Jefferson City, Missouri in 1958 where they made their home. Ruby worked for the State Board of Cosmetology as a Cosmetologist during this time. In 1970 they moved back to Appleton City where Mr. Kirk later passed away. Ruby and Vern Donnohue were united in marriage August 1, 1980 in Appleton City. Ruby was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and attended until her health failed. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter CC. She like playing bridge and loved traveling with her husband and friends. Ruby was a great cook and enjoyed sharing her gift with her family. Preceding Ruby in death were her parents; both her husbands; her two brothers, J.D. Piepmeier and C.L. Piepmeier; her sister Pearl Kilmer; and one niece Nancy Piepmeier. Survivors include a brother-in-law Jim Kilmer of Hannibal, Missouri, a sister-in-law Jean Piepmeier of Appleton City, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.

DORRELL, Christopher Columbus (Dr.)

Death of Dr. C.C. Dorrell - Died: In Osceola Mo. at his residence. Dr. Christopher C. Dorrell, on Friday March 5th, 1880, at 6 o'clock P.M. - On Wednesday morning last, he came to the drug store of Shoemaker & Dorrell, remained until dinner and after dinner, came to the drug store again, and remained until 4 o'clock P.M. when he went home complaining of a severe pain in his left side, went to bed; had considerable fever all night, saying that his spleen, liver nad left lung felt as if they were of a jelly-like consistence. He complained of some difficulty in breathing, and of great irritability of the stomach. When first taken he said he would not recover; was rational till he died; told Rev. Bahrenburg he desired to get well on account of his wife and little child, yet he had asked God to forgive his sins and he believed they were forgiven and therefore he was not afraid to die. Glorious consolation this. Dr. Dorrell was born the 19th of March, 1848 in Osceola, Mo. and died in less than a hundred yards of which he was born and where his sainted mother died April 5th 1876. Deceased was the youngest son of Dr. G.W. Dorrell that died on the 22nd of July 1876 near Osceola. Old Dr. G.W. Dorrell was well and favorably known to all the citizens of this county. Dr. C.C. Dorrell in 1870 and 1871, read medicine with his father. In May 1872, he went to Humansville and engaged in the drug business and did some practice but did not desire to ride, remained there to 1st Feb., 1873, when he quit the drug business, came to Osceola and from that date to the 4th of July 1874 applied himself with a zeal and constancy to the study of medicine under his father, that was and is ever worthy of emulation. On the 4th of July 1874 he began regularly the practice of medicine with his father, continued so to do about one year, then went to practicing alone and continued to practice to four days before his death, though during the last year he did not desire to do any practice requiring riding. He and Hamblin went into the drug business here 12 months ago, and did business about 4 months when Hamblin went out and Mr. B.R. Shoemaker, and himself carried on the business to time of his death. He leaves a wife and little boy baby 17 months old, his Brother L.V. Dorrell of this place and Miss Emily Dorrell of Leesville, Henry Co., Mo. as well as a large number of acquaintances in this, Pettis and Polk counties to mourn his sudden death.
His sudden death, at his age being only 31 years, 11 months, and 18 days old, but one more time solemnly warns the living of the certainty of death and uncertainty of life. He was gentle and kind, had a large heart in his bosom and on hundreds of occasions, proved by his generous acts, that he was actuated, by the grand sentiment found in the following lines: "Teach me to feel another' woe, - To hide the faults I see, - That the mercy I to others show - That mercy show to me." - Dr. Dorrell is dead it is true but he lives in the hearts of those that knew him best. They believe that his spirit has returned to the God that gave it, and that it is: - Not where the Elmwood flowers - Shed their pale blooms; - Not where the white marble flowers - Over the tombs - Is the spirit that gladdened the hours - It no more Blooms; - For one who crossed over the portal - The portal queen -
Now clasps to his bosom immortal, - His father and mother serene.

Dr. C.C. Dorrell - Died, in Osceola, at his residence, Dr. Christopher C. Dorrell, at 6 o'clock p.m., March 5th, 1880. On Wednesday morning last he came to the drug store as usual. About four o’clock in the afternoon he went home and laid down, complaining of a severe pain in his left side. He complained also of difficulty in breathing and great irritability of his stomach. When first taken ill he said he would not recover, and was rational until he died. Dr. Dorrell told Rev. Bahrenburg he desired to get well on account of his wife and little child, yet he had asked God to forgive his sins and he believed they were forgiven, and therefore he was not afraid to die. Glorious consolation! Dr. Dorrell was born in Osceola March 19th, 1848, and died in less than 100 yards of his birthplace. Deceased was the youngest son of the lamented Dr. Washinton Dorrell, whose death occurred January 22d, 1876. His mother’s death followed quickly that of his father, occurring April 5th, 1876. Both were old and well-known citizens of this county. Christopher C. Dorrell in 1870-71 read medicine with his father. In May, 1872, he went to Humansville and engaged in the drug business and did some practice. He remained there until Feb’y 1st, 1873, when he quit the drug business, came to Osceola and for eighteen months applied himself with a zeal and constancy to the study of medicine under his father that was and is highly worthy of emulation. July 4th, 1874, he began regularly the practice of medicine with his father, and continued to do so about a year. He then went to practicing alone, and continued to practice until four days before his death, but during the last year he did not desire to do any but office and town practice. He had been in the drug business in Osceola for several months prior to his death. The sudden death of Dr. Dorrell, just as he was entering the portals of vigorous manhood, but once again solemnly warns the living of the certainty of death and uncertainty of life. He was gentle and kind – had a large heart in his bosom, and on hundreds of occasions proved by his generous acts that he was actuated, by the grand sentiment found in the following lines: "Teach me to feel another' woe, - To hide the faults I see, - That the mercy I to others show - That mercy show to me." - Dr. Dorrell is dead it is true but he lives in the hearts of those that knew him best. They believe that his spirit has returned to the God that gave it, and that it-- Is not where the Elmwood flowers - Shed their pale blooms; - Not where the white marble flowers - Over the tombs - Is the spirit that gladdened the hours - It no more Blooms; - For one who crossed over the portal - The portal queen - Now clasps to his bosom immortal, - His father and mother serene. -
Dr. Dorrell leaves a wife and one child – a baby boy; one brother, L.F. Dorrell; a sister, Miss Emily Dorrell, of Leesville; also a large number of acquaintances in Pettis, Polk and St Clair counties to mourn his sudden and early death.

Loretta Jay Dorward, daughter of Albert Harrison and Lena Maude (Parsons) Knight, was born June 17, 1914 in Taberville, Missouri. She died at Greene Haven in Springfield, Missouri Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 92 years of age. Loretta married Clarence Dorward on September 1, 1933. She lived nearly all her life in the Appleton City, Missouri area and attended Ohio Christian Church. Loretta enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and was a very hard worker. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Preceding Loretta in death was her husband, Clarence, her parents, her brothers, Ralph Knight and Forrest Knight, and her sister Geneva Parsons. Survivors include her son William Dorward of Columbia, Missouri, two daughters, Nettie Drummond of Springfield, Missouri and Janice Clark of Decatur, Alabama, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Myron "Ron" Adrian Doty, 76, Branson, died Friday, August 2, at the Skaggs Community Health Center, Branson. He was born December 13, 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rhoada Ann Knebel Doty and Martin Wesley Doty. A World War II veteran, he joined the United States Navy December 14, 1942. He served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Bunker Hill and operated LCM boats beaching Marines. He was honorably discharged as a Coxswain from the Navy December 1, 1945. He was involved in law enforcement for many years. He served as Deputy U.S. Marshal for the then-Alaska Territory, director of State Emergency System of Alaska, as well as city police officer, deputy sheriff and security officer for several municipalities and counties in Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Doty, who died in 1990. He is survived by his only child, son, Keno Doty, and his wife, Amanda, Springfield; and his companion, partner and best friend, Ronda Goodman, Branson. Fae Alice Doyle, 83, Clinton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. She was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Roscoe, to Frank and Cora Lee (Loftin) Elliott, the third of five children. Fae attended grade school at Shady Grove and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1941. Over a period of some time, she worked for Sears Roebuck in Kansas City. In later years, she worked as a cook in nursing homes and the Clinton Senior Center until retiring in December 1989. Fae accepted the Lord as her savior on June 10, 1939, in a county missionary revival at Mt. Olive Community Church – Roscoe. At the time of her death, she was a member of Bible Baptist Church – Clinton. She was preceded in death by her mother, July 3, 1954, and father, February 25, 1991; a brother who died at birth and brother, Eugene; sister-in-law, Sadie Elliott; and nephews, Philip Nolan Elliott, in 1950, and James Kent Elliott, in 1999. Fae is survived by two daughters, Rita Kay Doyle, a missionary in Arizona, and Connie Raye Bailey and husband, Glover Jr. – Calhoun; two grandsons, Travis Elton – Springfield, and Christopher Wayne Bailey and wife, Caitlin–– Calhoun; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Marie Doyle – Arizona; brothers, Theodore S. (Scottie) Elliott and wife, Lena – El Dorado Springs, and Ralph Elliott and wife, Fern; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel – Osceola, with Pastor Richard Page officiating. Special music was, “How Great Thou Art,” “In The Garden” and”“Amazing Grace,” with accompanist Gail Ingle. Casketbearers were”– Owen Elliott, Jim Vaughn, Mike Hamm, Ed Schmidli, Paul Smith and Lon Rehkop. Honorary Casketbearers were – Travis Bailey, Mike Murphy, Christopher Bailey and Richard Page. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home – Osceola.

The remains of William D. Driver, whose death occurred last Wednesday at his home in Hudson Township after a brief illness, were laid away at our city cemetery, Thursday. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Wetzel at the family home. Deceased was born in Be(?) County, Ohio, Sept. 10th 1832. At an early age he united with the Methodist church, afterwards transferring his membership to the Methodist Episcopal. He lived an active Christian life ever since his conversion. In 1886 he united in marriage to Miss Louisa Dick, of Tolono, Ill. His devoted wife and three children survive him and mourn his death. Deceased recently purchased and moved to the W. R. Farnham place in Hudson township, and while nearly a stranger to everybody in the community, those who had formed his acquaintance held him in high esteem as a Christian gentlemen and neighbor.

Melissa E. Duckworth passed away Sunday evening April 22, 1923, at the home of her daughter, Mr. J.I. Meredith. Deceased was born near Collins January 12, 1849, being 74 years, 8 months and 10 days of age.
She was married to Lafayette Burchett August 15, 1866. To this union five daughters were born: three daughters and her companion having preceded her to the Great Beyond. Two daughters, Mrs. Alice Meredith of Collins, Mo., Mrs. Ora Buzzard of Excelsior Springs, Mo., one brother, W.R. Duckworth of Vista, Mo., five granddaughters and two great grandchildren remain to mourn their loss. The greater part of her life has been spent in Missouri, having lived in Collins the past 36 years. She united with the Coon Creek Baptist church about 35 years ago, and always lived a true and faithful member. She had been a remarkably strong woman until the last few months which she spent with her daughter, where all that loving hands could do was done. She was a quiet sufferer. Her gentle forbearance and patience never gave way to hard suffering. She was a loving mother, a kinds helpful neighbor. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends but their loss will be her eternal gain. She goes to meet loved ones gone before. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.S. Birdsong at the Baptist church.

DUCKWORTH, William Renus

An honored son of a noble father, William Renus Duckworth, was born near Collins, in St. Clair county, Missouri, October 11, 1851, and died in Osceola, April 8, 1924. His life was spent in St. Clair County, except for a few years during his childhood. He was married to Miss Sallie E. Stiles December 20, 1874. He left surviving him his wife and two sons, Robert Demas and Burnie Roy Duckworth and their families, to mourn his departure, who were with him at the time of his death. His four grand-children will be taught to honor their grandfather. Brother Duckworth was a son of Robert Duckworth, a noble young man and a leading character among the young people of St. Clair County in the late 40's of the past century, who married a daughter of Renus Thompson, a leading citizen of St. Clair county. He got his middle name Renus from his grandfather Thompson, though his mother died when he was an infant. Thirty years he spent in Vista, fourteen of which he was postmaster at that place. He was concerted in 1911 and united with the Baptist church in Vista. Rev. J.M. Freeman, his pastor, gave a great funeral sermon in the Osceola Baptist Church April 9th, from which he was buried in the Osceola cemetery in charge of Free Masons, of which body he was an honored member. The masonic burial service was impressive and beautiful, Rev. H.E. Carpenter conducting the ritual service as Worshipful Master of A.F. & A.M. Lodge of Osceola. He sleeps well.

Vera Irene Duff died at her home in Clinton Wednesday, July 6, 2005. She was the daughter of Clarence James Chapman Sr. and Zelma Lee Howell. She married Don Dale Duff on November 10, 1938, in Carroll County. She lived in Osceola until the death of her husband in 1986 after that she moved to California. She moved with her son Ron to Parker, Arizona in 1997. He died September 8, 2004, and she then moved to Clinton to be close to her family. She is survived by one sister, Lucile Reimer; one brother C. J. "Jr." Chapman, all of Carrollton; a daughter Donna Farmer of Clinton; a grandson Mike Farmer and wife Sherri, and a granddaughter Diana Layton; four great-grandchildren, Victoria Jackson, Clayton Farmer, Kaleb Oswald and Kailene Oswald, and two great-great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Summer Jackson. Memorial services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel Monday, July 11. Burial was in Osceola Cemetery.

DUFFEY, James Aaron
Obituary - James Aaron Duffey was born in Page County, Iowa August 16, 1892. His father, Kellum P. Duffey, died when he was six weeks old. His mother was married to J.R. Ware in 1895 and with them he always made his home. In 1909 he came with his parents to St. Clair County, Missouri. He attended the Osceola High School last year and had planned to attend this year. Last spring he went to Danville, Indiana and remained about five months. He came home ill (Typhoid Fever) August 10th but was confined to bed only a week. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done, but all in vain. With his loved around him realizing the "Death Angel" was hovering over him he prayed to God whom he had tried to serve for the last nine years of his life and he passed to the great beyond with the name of his Savior on his lips. Through all his suffering, he showed that true Christian Spirit. Not a word of complaint was heard. He leaves a mother, a stepfather, three stepbrothers and four sisters. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to the Osceola Cemetery where the funeral was preached by Rev. A.H. Dent after which he was gently laid to rest to await the Resurrection morn. - A loved one from - us has gone - A voice we loved - is still. - A place is vacant - in our home - Which never can - be filled. Hazel Dukes was born September 18, 1918 in Hickory County, Mo. to Homer H. Stewart and Mabel Wilson Stewart. She passed away December 4, 1991 at Sac Osage Hospital in Osceola. At a very young age she moved with her family to a farm north of the Ohio Post Office in St. Clair County and at the age of 14 years she moved to Osceola along with her family. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1936, then attended Warrensburg Teacher's College, earning a teaching certificate. She taught in area rural schools. On May 24, 1936, she married Harold Dukes of Osceola and to this union was born one daughter, Joni Sue Dukes.
Hazel helped her husband in their grocery store business for several years, remaining at home after the birth of their daughter to be a full-time mother. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Osceola Christian Church. She was a faithful member throughout her life. She leaves her husband, Harold; daughter, Joni, and son-in-law, Robert Harper; two granddaughters, Onna Jo Harper and Lara Kae Harper; one sister, Helen Hart, all of Osceola, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janene Rae Harper, her parents, and two sisters, Mary Ziajor and Maxine Kiefer. Her memory is lovingly cherished by her family and friends. Family gatherings were never complete without Hazel's easy sense of humor and her quick laugh. She was a very faithful and devoted caregiver to her parents during their latter days. Her devotion to her granddaughters was unsurpassed. She was always enjoying her two special little girls and was very, very proud of them. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 6, 1991. Burial was in the Osceola Cemetery.

Beryle H. Dukes, 87, Osceola, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 in Big Spring Care Center, Humansville. The daughter of Ralph and Myra Hall, she was born July 14, 1919 at Lamar, Colo. A resident of Osceola since 1938, she was employed as a secretary for Eastin Insurance Agency in Osceola from 1965 until 1992. She was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for 30 years. Her husband, Herbert A. Dukes, preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Penelope Dukes-Williams, Austin, Texas, Nicolette J. Smith, Farmington and Deborah J. Dukes, Osceola; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Cremation was under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Humansville.

Richard Marlowe Dukes. - Richard M. Dukes passed away at home with his loving family at his side on Aug. 1, 2008. Richard was born to Glenn and Harry Dukes on September 4, 1918 in Osceola where he was reared and educated, graduating from Osceola High School. He served our country in the United States Army Air Corps and later in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, as a crew chief for the aircraft he was assigned. In 1939 he started work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo and retired in 1975, after 36 years.
Richard married Ruth Rice of Osceola in 1940 and he and Ruth built their home themselves in Napa in the early 1950's and raised their two daughters, Marsha and Barbara in that house. He also graduated from Napa college with an AA Degree. He was active in the First United Methodist Church in Napa, where he worked with MYF and the Building and Grounds Committee. He was an active memter of the Democratic Central Committee in Napa for many years and was named "Napa Valley Democrat of the Year." One of his proudest achievements was being a delegate to the Democratic National Convention held in San Francisco. Rich would have celebrated his 90th birthday in September and he and Ruth will celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary the same month.
Richard is survived by his wife,Ruth, daughters Marsha Nygren of Eugene, Oregon and Barbard Kadar of Irvine, California; sons-in-law Dale Nygren and bence Kadar; sister Betty Perkins, Osceola and a brother Jack Dukes, Tustin, California; grandchildren Michael Flitcroft of San Francisco; Lisa andStephen Pursley of Eugene, Oregon and brian Kadar of Irvine, California and great-grandsson Shad Orange of Merced. Graveside services were Friday, August 8, 2008 at Tulocay Cemetery, Napa, California.

Achsa Ulayla Dull took her place in heaven Sept. 7, 2006. Ulayla was born to Sie and Cora Myers on March 15, 1914 in St. Clair County where she spent her childhood and graduated from Osceola High School.
Ulayla was married to William Truman Dull on June 15, 1932. They lived on a farm near Gerster until about 1939, when they purchased a farm near Quincy, where their son still lives. In 1953 Ulayla became the post mistress at Wisdom Post Office. She worked there for several years until she was able to acquire the position at the Shawnee Mission Post Office in Shawnee Mission, Kan., and retired from there with 18 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Humansville but never changed her church membership from the Landmark Baptist Church in Shawnee Mission, Kan. Born to the marriage of Ulayla nd Truman were three children. Ulayla is survived by their daughter, Arlene Lear and her husband, Lionel, Humansville; son, Gayle Dull and his wife, Wilma, Quincy and daughter, Brenda Denton and her husband, Larry, Ft. Scott, Kan. She leaves one half-brother, Melvin and two half-sisters, Sandra and Frances. Ulayla has 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Ulayla was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Truman; a brother, Orval Myers and a half-brother, Sie Myers, Jr. Funeral services for Ulayla were Sunday, Sept. 10, in Murray Funeral Home, Humansville, with Dr. Greg Bunn officiating. Nola Neoma “Kate” Dull was born January 5, 1919 to Perry and Autna Thompson Gilbert and passed away October 11, 1997 at Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola, Mo.On December 17, 1940 she was united in marriage to Orvel Dull at Stockton, Mo. Two sons were born to this union, James Leon and Orvel Dean. Kate and Orvel enjoyed 56 years together before Orvel’s death on July 2, 1997. They lived a short time near Stockton, Mo and in the stated of Colorado before moving to the Lowry City community, where they resided until their deaths. Kate was born and raised in the Bird Song community, west of Collins, Mo and often talked of walking to church and school in the area. As a young girl she was saved at Brush Creek Church. Kate was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who will always be remembered for her gentle, kind and loving nature. She worked for a short time at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City and in the 1960’s served as head cook in the cafeteria at the Lowry City Schools. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and cooling and he outstanding ability to do these things are very evident to those who were near her. She will certainly be missed and fondly remembered by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvel, by one son Orvel Dean, her parents Perry and Autna, four brothers, Otis, Perry Jr, Duane and George Gilbert and one sister, Juanita Simons. Orvel Dull was born on King’s Prairie near Gerster, on April 10, 1916 to Isaac and Maude Ann Hedgpeth Dull and passed away on July 2, 1997 at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 22 days. His childhood years were spent in the King’s Prairie community and then as a young man moved with family to the Black Jack neighborhood near Stockton. Orvel then spent three years in western states with the 3C company. On December 17, 1940, he was united in marriage with Nola Neoma “Kate” Gilbert. Two sons were born to this union, James Leon and Orvel Dean. Orvel was a farmer and for 41 years operated a blacksmith shop in Lowery City. He also learned to play fiddle when he was a young boy and his talent was a life long enjoyment to him, he especially enjoyed going to the blue grass concerts in later years and spent many hours jamming with other artist. Orvel and Kate spent all of the married life with exceptions of two years near Stockton, and one year in the state of Colorado. Orville Dean Dull, 42, of 1308 Kingston Road, Blue Springs, Missouri, died Thursday, November 8, 1984 at Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born in Roscoe, Missouri and lived in the Lowry City, Missouri area most of his life before moving to the Blue Springs area 14 years ago. Mr. Dull was a truck driver for the Kenosha Auto Transport Corp. for the last 14 years and was a member of Local 41 of the Teamsters Union. Mr. Dull has a avid interest in sports and was a member of the Blue Springs Softball Association and served as a coach in that organization for many years. He was an Army Veteran serving a tour of duty in Germany in the early 1960’s. Mr. Dull leaves his wife, Mrs. Judith F. Dull of the home; two daughters, Miss Kimberley Denise Dull of the home and Miss. Rebecca Lynn Dull, Lowry City; a stepdaughter, Miss Kimberely Dianne Erwin of the home; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Orvel Dull, a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Leon Dull, two nephews and a niece, Jeff Dull, Tim Dull, and Kristy Dull, all of Lowry City and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Autna Gilbert, El Dorado Springs, MO. Wilma LaVonne (Zumalt) Dull, 67, Quincy, MO, passed away one week prior to her 68th birthday, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO, where she spent the last month of her life. Wilma was born on November 19, 1940, at Coal, MO, in Henry County. She was the only child of Miles and Opal (Lawler) Zumalt. She lived most of her childhood in the Vista / Osceola area graduating from Osceola High School in 1958. She was married to Gayle Dull, January 30, 1960, and moved to Quincy. Wilma worked for the United States Postal Service 25 ½ years, and was appointed Postmaster at Quincy Post Office March, 1988, where she continued to work throughout her illness. Survivors include her husband, Gayle; six children: Crystal Meinhardt, Konnie Vaughn, Gayla Murphy, all of Lee’s Summit, Kendra Goucher, of Holden, Jason and Clint Dull of Quincy, and thirteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Opal (Lawler) Zumalt and a half sister, Clara Ellen (Zumalt) Hudgens. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. June 5, 1923 - September 23, 2008. Mildred Virginia (Steele) Duncan, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at her home in Appleton City, Missouri. She was born June 5, 1923 in Marshall, Missouri the daughter of William T. and Bertha (Bangle) Steele. In 1944 she was united in marriage to Aaron David Parker and to this union one daughter, Virginia Ann, was born. Aaron passed away in 1946. In 1948 she married Philip Joe Campbell and to this union three sons were born, Phil Joe, David Michael and Clyde Campbell. After Philip passed away she met and married Wayne Duncan. Mildred resided in the Kansas City area where she was a housewife and also employed at Lake City. In 1999 she moved to Appleton City where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law Virginia Ann and Raymond Thomas, Sr. She was a kind, loving wife and mother who loved having her family around. She was a fun-loving, joyful person. Preceding Mildred in death were her three husbands, Aaron David Parker, Philip Campbell and Wayne Duncan; one son, Clyde Campbell; two brothers, William T. Steele, Jr. and Jack Clemons. Those left to mourn her passing are her three children, Virginia and husband Raymond Thomas, Sr. of Appleton City, Missouri, Philip Joe Campbell and wife Charlotte of Independence, Missouri and David Michael Campbell of Kansas City; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

He passed away on December 16, 1980 at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Mo., at the age of 53 years, 4 months, and 23 days. He entered into the army on March 12, 1951 and spent two years in Japan. He was united in marriage to Mildred Hart and was the father of two sons, Dennis William and Roger Lewis. On May 9, 1962 he became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton City, Mo. Ab had been employed by the Missouri State Highway Department for 23 years.
He is survived by his wife and two sons of the home, two brothers, James, Edward and his wife, Clara, both of Appleton City, two aunts (Bobby and Grace), uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and one sister.

DUNHAM, John Edward
John Edward “Ed” Dunham, son of Lewis Herbert and Ruby Lee (Keeton) Dunham, was born October 16, 1929 on the family farm in St. Clair County, Missouri near Monegaw Springs. He attended a country school in that area for several years. On September 2, 1950 Ed married his wife of 60 years, Clara Irene Strickler, at the courthouse in Bentonville, Arkansas. They were blessed with two daughters. They lived in Taberville for a year and Rockville for a year before moving to Appleton City, Missouri where they have resided since. Ed worked as an auto mechanic in a service station in Rockville for two years then for Fennimore Motors in Appleton City until he and Clara bought the garage and called it “Ed’s”. He owned and operated his garage until his retirement in 1998. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, loving to quail hunt, fish for Crappie and Channel Cat and later deer hunt. He also loved to hunt mushrooms in the spring. Ed was quick witted and quite a jokester, playing jokes on his family and friends was just expected. Preceding Ed in death were his parents, one sister Dorothy Bernice Dunham who died at age 13, two brothers, James Lewis Dunham and Albert Lee Dunham, and one grandson Michael Ryan Gilmore. Survivors include his wife Clara of the home; two daughters, Terry and husband Jerry Welch of Sedalia, Missouri and Susan Null of Odessa, Missouri; four grandchildren, Stephen Ratliff of Sedalia, Jaime and husband Russell Stewart of Sedalia, Lori and husband Keith Weaver of Grain Valley, Missouri and Codey Null of Odessa; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Hannah, Harley, Gage, Madison and Gavin. Mrs. Dunham had made her home in Appleton City since 1964. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Herbert Dunham. Survivors include three sons, James, Edward and Albert Dunham, of Appleton City; two sisters, Mrs. Bobby Sayles of Kansas City and Mrs. Grace McCance of Fairfield, Ark.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ruby May Dunlap, daughter of John L. and Maggie Lasater Thompson, was born February 1, 1911 at Rockville, Missouri. She departed this life December 5, 1997, at Strafford, Missouri, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 3 days. Ruby was first married to Abe Dunlap, to this union three children were born. Later she was married to Ed Waits. Both husbands preceded her in death. Mrs. Dunlap was a long time employee of Beech Aircraft Company. She retired in 1973. She had been a resident of Mansfield for about one year, moving there from Kansas. Her survivors include two sons, Louis Dunlap of Mansfield and William Dunlap of Andover, Kansas; two brothers, Ernest Thompson of Sisters, Oregon and Miles Thompson of Fort Scott, Kansas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, John Dunlap; one grandson; one brother; and one sister. Services were held 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 5, 1997, in Ragan-Thieme Chapel, with Rev. Stan Welch officiating. Music was by Rev. Stan and Sherri Welch.

Miles Eli Dunning was born Dec. 22, 1926 in Columbia, Mo. Miles was raised by Miles and Avis Dunning of Deepwater. He passed away Dec. 28, 1985 at his home in Deepwater at the age of 59 years and 6 days.
Mr. Dunning was a lifetime resident of Deepwater. He graduated from Montrose High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Deepwater Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Nola of the home; one son, Larry Dunning of Deepwater; one daughter, Barbara Price of Deepwater; one step-daughter, Glenda Summers of Independence; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 30, at the Deepwater Baptist Church. Burial was in Landaker Cemetery in Lowry City, under the directions of Goodrich Funeral Home of Osceola.

Nola Fay Dunning, 84, Clinton, was born. Aug. 1, 1920, near Damascus to Roy and Estel Poston and passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. She married Wallace Gilbert and one daughter, Glenda, was born.  Later Nola married Miles E. Dunning. She was a homemaker and member of CF First Baptist Church, Deepwater. She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles; her parents; two brothers, Claudie Dean and Robert; and one sister, Darlene. Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Summers, and husband, Bob, Independence; a brother, Earl Poston, and wife, Belva, El Dorado Springs; step-son, Larry Dunning, and wife-Mildred; step-daughter, Barbara Price, and husband, Roger; three granddaughters, Christi Summers and husband, Mike, Euless, TX, Terri Dye and husband, Chuck, Independence and Kelli Hayes and husband, Marty, Independence; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and many friends. Services were held Friday, Feb.18, in the Deepwater Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Brack officiating. Music was "Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great thou Art" by Diane Houk and Gladys Walker, soloists, and Peggy Hills, accompanist.  Pallbearers were Harvey Dunning, Jim Smith, Denver Houk, Chuck Dye, Mike Badolato, Shea Bass and Harold Snyder.
Interment was in Landaker Cemetery, Lowry City, under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home,
Osceola.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church, Deepwater or the American Heart Association.

Deepwater Farmer dies of Rabies - Clinton, MO – Jan 27 – William Dunning, a well-known farmer of Deepwater was stricken by rabies Saturday night, and was taken to the Humansville Hospital, where he died this morning. During the holidays Mr. Dunning and his grandson, A. G. Dunning, were playing with some police puppies and one of these bit them. A. G. Dunning took the serum treatment, but the elder man refused to take precautionary measures.

DURNELL, Dora Lee Smith

Dora Lee Durnell, 101, was born March 31, 1905 in Drexel, to Albert and Fannie Bell Bybee Smith and passed away March 26, 2006 in Truman Lake Manor, Lowry City. Dora Lee was united in marriage to William Durnell on Dec. 27, 1923. They made their home in Denver, Colo., until the 1930s when they moved to Osceola where she has lived until moving to the nursing home in Lowry City five years ago. Dora Lee was a beautician for many years in Osceola. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on Aug. 8, 1983. Dora Lee is survived by her great-niece, Penny Harrison; great great nieces, Emily, Kathleen, and Clare Harrison; great great nephews, Gram and Paul Harrison, all of Kansas City. She will be missed by all who knew her. Services for Dora Lee were Wednesday, May 31, in the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Reverend Scott Hill officiating.
Music was "The Lord's Prayer" with Kathleen Harrison, soloist and Gail Ingle, accompanist. Casketbearers were Harold John, Elmer Petty, Steve Curry, Wayne John, John Harrison and Mtthew Curry. Honorary casketbearers were Bill Foote, Stan Ziajor and Dick Kiefer. Interment was in the Robinson Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
