St. Clair Historical Society Museum in Osceola

St. Clair Courier, 29 April 2005:
Owned and operated by members of the St. Clair County Historical Society, the
St. Clair County Museum will open for the summer season on Saturday, April 30.
Located at 225 Market St. in Osceola, one block south of the square, the hours
will be Wednesdays 8 to 11 a.m., Saturdays noon to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 4
p.m. There is no admission charge. However, donations are appreciated.
As you enter the museum you will sign in at a desk that once was in the Toalson
office and the Morrow store. Step into another room to see the Doc Ruth Seevers
exhibit and the extensive miniature basket collection of Dorothy Fulton. The
Fulton’s operated the Bus Stop Café. The Post boxes and window of the Vista Post
Office and a U.S. Postage Stamp collection or the old pump organ from the one
room Kelly School along with memorabilia may spark some nostalgic memories.
We have many pictures, some that you may help us to identify. Wlak back into
time to when the dam was here and the spoonbill was king. See an aerial view of
Osceola and the old jail.
The artifacts that we have on display have been acquired in two ways. First, as
a donation and when on display the item is credited to the donor. Second, we
have a loan policy where we will accept items to be displayed for a period for
time, with an agreement to return the item to the owner when requested to do so.
As a beginning museum, we need the addition of these items to complete displays
of our county history.
In addition to the museum area, we have a genealogy and history room with a
growing file of St. Clair County family histories.
The Historical Society is proud to provide this museum, dedicated to the
collection and preservation of the history of St. Clair County. Do come and
share a little history with us.

Historical Society News
The big news is that the museum opens for the summer on April 30. It will be
open 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. on
Sundays. Many volunteers have been hard at work getting ready for opening day.
The museum will be staffed by volunteers, so please sign up to take a day and
museum sit. A walk through training session will be held on April 30 and May 1
during open hours. A museum tour booklet is being prepared to assist those
volunteers.

St. Clair County Courier, 21 October 2005:
Our museum is closed for the winter season. We will open again in late April.
Meanwhile, the building will be open, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday mornings
until Nov. 2. As we do not heat the building in the winter, only occasionally or
by appointment will we be open.
We still continue to accept items for the museum or library that are related to
the history of our county. Items are accepted by agreement of ownership or on
temporary loan. If you would like to consider placing some item with us, you can
contact our curator at 417-644-2913.

The museum will open on Saturday, April 29, 2006. A rural school display will be
the opening feature.
Hours will be Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m., or call for an appointment.
Museum will close for the winter on Saturday, September 30, 2006 and will be
open by appointment only.
