STRINGTOWN
St. Clair County Courier, 6 January 2006:
There was a hoop factory in the area of Stringtown, north of the Osage River on
old Hwy. 13. Today there are some homes and businesses there. It was called
Stringtown because everything was “strung out along the road”. Old cargo lists
for steamboats show “hoop poles” being sent down the river.
