Taberville, a town on the Osage River, in St. Clair County, twenty miles west of
Osceola, the county seat. It has a public school, a Christian Church and a
Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1899 the population was 200. It was platted in
1859 on land belonging to Dr. Taber, who formed a land company. From 1844 to
1860 it was a trading post of some importance, and was reached by steamers from
Osceola.

Taberville – A village of 250 inhabitants, on the Osage River in Taber Township,
St. Clair County seven miles south east of Rockville, its railroad shipping
point on the M.K. & T. Ry. (Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway), and twenty west
of Osceola (county seat court house). Appleton City, fifteen miles north, is the
nearest bank location. The Osage River is navigable to this place a portion of
the year, affording transportation at low rates, for grain and heavy freight.
Improved land is worth $10 to $20 per acre; unimproved, $5 to $12, and timber is
abundant suitable for farm implements. Shipping, grain, flax seed and stock.

St. Clair County, MO History, 1883, page 1011:
Appleton City Mills - C. Shoe & Son, proprietors is situated near the business
portion of the town, west of the depot. The building is a two and a
half story frame with a basement and is forty feet front by fifty feet
deep with a two story addition twenty by fifty.
There are four runs of French burrs with a grinding capacity of 75 barrels per
day. The engine is thirty horsepower, of good workmanship and the quality of
flour unexcelled. Messrs Shoe & Son bought this mill at Taberville and moved it
here four years ago.
