LOWRY CITY CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Lowry City, Mo.

Condensed history from Lowry City Centennial Book 1871-1971:

A Christian Church was organized in this “Pride of the Prairie” village in 1909. The site for this
church, located at 2nd and Dixon Streets, was purchased from the Lackawanna Coal and Iron Company, a corporation, by the trustees, in 1909.

Trustees were: John J. Stauffer, Francis M. Miller and William D. Poindexter.

In the fall and winter of the same year, the church was built. A frame veneered with brick
was the structure. $500 was borrowed from the American Christian Missionary Society to begin
work on the church. The cost of this church when completed was $1500. to $2000.

The church was organized by Bro. John I. Orrison and Bro. John H. Jones. It was dedicated in
June 1910 with 35 or 40 members present.

Among the charter members were: John J. Stauffer and family, Alcesta Penn,
Francis M. Miller and family, Mrs. Blanche Barnett, Mrs. Ann Cox, Mrs. Lucy Holmes and
Oda Shumaker and family. In 1912 there were 68 members.
