My Grandpa is John Mack Sanders, who lives in Scott City. His Great-grandfather was Richmond Sanders, who came to Commerce, then Illmo around 1842 from Tennessee. He had a farm just outside of Illmo, and started the "Sanders Family Cemetery" on his farm, which is now owned by a descendant, Gilbert Bretzel. Richmond and his wife are buried there, as are several Sanders Civil War veterans buried in this cemetery. It is a quaint, picturesque cemetery, surrounded by trees, in the middle of a farm field. It's inaccessible by car.

Richmond Sanders (Patriarch of the family)
b. March 20, 1813 TN(?) or S.Carolina
d. May 27, 1882 Sanders Cemetery.
He has a nice, large, upright stone. He and Mary are buried under some large, old cedar trees. Interestingly, some of the trees in the cemetery have grown "around" some of the stones. Many stones are illegible, but still, the cemetery has been well-maintained by the family all of these years.

Mary (nee Raspberry) Sanders
(daughter of William and Siniah, nee Hooper, Raspberry
Wm. was born in Georgia sometime between 1780 & 1790
The Hoopers came from Wilks County, Georgia to Tennessee, originally coming from S. Carolina.

Mary Sanders is the Matriarch of the family.
b. March 25, 1814
d. sometime between Aug 4, 1896 & May 31, 1897 (stone illegible now).
She also has a nice, large, upright stone. Unfortunately, some of it is illegible.

Their children and descendants:

d. ?

d. Jan 23, 1926

Allen Brasell Sanders
(Civil War veteran)
b.Aug 7, 1847
d. July 2, 1909 in Maynard (then called "Supply"), Arkansas, and was buried at the Antioch Cemetery in Oxley, Missouri (not in the Sanders Cemetery - a Civil War memorial stone was placed in Sanders Cemetery).

Mrs. Elsie Ann (nee House) Beckman Sanders
(Allen's first wife - he was her second husband).
