"Make a Splash in Missouri Rivers"
State Project 2011-2012
For the State President's project, we'll be raising funds for the LaBarque Creek Watershed Conservation project. LaBarque Creek is an area that covers 13 square miles in Jefferson County with over 44 species of fish despite being so close to the St. Louis metropolis. It is the goal of those at the LaBarque Watershed to keep a healthy and stable environment. But current land developments pose a major threat to the watershed by increased storm water runoff and erosion. To find out more about the LaBarque Creek Watershed.
Missouri is filled with streams and creeks, most of them requiring similar attention. Not that long ago our rivers and waterways were very important, but we seem to have forgotten that they still are. Clean water is needed for crops, drinking water, and fish habitats. If you want to help with a stream in your neighborhood look up the Missouri Stream Team website.
Method of Fund Raising: Funds will be raised by selling pins and opportunities on several desirable items. The State President will be promoting her project by traveling to each DAR District Meeting throughout Missouri as well as presenting her program at DAR and SAR chapter meetings and C.A.R. society meetings. Honorariums will be donated to the project.
