1. James H. SextonJames H. Sexton was born 5 September 1800 in Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia, and died 14 March 1855 near Mud River, Cabell County, (West) Virginia. James appears in the 1850 Cabell
County, (West) Virginia census (page 001) with Jacob H.
Sexton.
There is more to the story than James being a pauper. According to the listings in the book "Cabell County VA/WV Order Book: Overseers of the Poor, 1814-1861" edited by Carrie Eldridge,
It would appear by these entries, especially the entries made to Elizabeth, that James was incapable of making an independent living - meaning some sort of physical or mental incapacitation. According to "Cabell County Death Records 1853-1859", KYOWVA, page 18, Sexton James d. 14 Mar 1855 at Mud River age 54y 5 mos 9 dys. Son of William and E. Saxton b. Greenbrier Co. Death reported by brother John Sexton. Margin note: Never married. This seems to tie John, Jacob and James together as brothers, all three of them to William and Elizabeth, and to tie William with Elizabeth Black and to Greenbrier County.
