NAME: Darlene Lercher Smith
SURNAMES: : POGUE/WATTS/WILLIAMS

I am researching my mother's family. Her father was Ernest Howard POGUE a.k.a. WILLIAMS, born 7-16-05 in Shannon County, MO, died 7-19-68 near Ellington, MO. He first married my grandmother, Elizabeth WATTS in 1920s and after her death in 1935 married Bertha Hoffman. Howard POGUE's parents were "Amanda Holmes, who I think was born in Shannon County MO and Robert POGUE, of Reynolds County MO. Howard POGUE was abandoned by his mother at age 6 years and went to work for farmer named WILLIAMS near Eminence, MO. as an adult he went by the name of WILLIAMS and worked as a carpenter, when sober. His children were Edward Juhl WILLIAMS, Joyce Jean WATTS, Orpha Jo WATTS, and Melba Geraldine WATTS. He also had a foster nephew named Otto WILLIAMS. Any information on this dubious character and his family is appreciated.

NAME: Edna
SURNAME: WALLEN
minister, John Wallen, who married a Thornton to a Tallig in 1874. Do you have any way of knowing more about this John Wallen. I am searching for my grandfather, John W. Wallen, who was also a minister. He was born in Hancock Co. TN in 1852. I lose track of him from 1871 to 1900. By 1900, he is back in VA. However, I don't know where he migrated to during those lost years, and therefore don't have the names of all his children. If you have access to the 1880 census for the Missouri area, could you check this out. His wife was named Mary (Johnson) from VA. Thanks in advance Edna NH

NAME: George Harris
SURNAMES: PURTEET, POPTEET
PURTEET (may be spelled POTEET), Lemuel b SC abt 1815; mrd Mary GIBSON in 1836 (dau of James GIBSON and Mary FINLEY). Family anecdote says Lemuel, his wife and children were moving west but stopped in Reynolds County. Story also says Lemuel, "died in a Northern prison after eating a poisoned pie." Children include Nancy, Keziah (my great grandmother-married William T. Sutton), Jane, Mary, Ewel and Dreisey (Drury or Drucila). Drucila married in Reynolds Co. in 1870s. Have found record of a Lemuel POTELL listed as a civilian prisoner who died on 18 Nov 1862 and buried in grave number 10014 in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. I believe this is Lemuel PURTEET since I suspect there were very few "Lemuel' anybody in Reynolds Co during this era. I and others have information on some Purteets (Poteets), Sutton and decendants, Gibson, & Finley that we can share. George S. Harris Manassas, VA

NAME: Charley and Jan Edmonds
SURNAMES:EDMUNDS / EDMONDS / COPLING
I am tracing my husband's family and I believe that he decends from William EDMUNDS (or Edmonds) of Amherst/Nelson Co.VA who married Sarah"Sally"Hughes) We believe that William had a son named CHARLES LAVENDER EDMUNDS who was born in Lovingston, Nelson Co. VA in 1812. I understand that William left a will dated 3-1-1826 that named his wife Sarah and seven children: James, Nancy, Lavender,Willis, Moses,Rebecca and CHARLES. CHARLES and the others later moved to MO and then to AR around that is where things get fuzzy. CHARLES (b. Lovinston, Nelson Co. VA 1812) and his 4th wife JANE (COPLING) died in Pulaski Co. AR 5 days after Jane gave birth to twins. CHARLES LAVENDER EDMUNDS and JANE COPLING were married St. Francois Co. MO on 1-22-1854 but I believe that they show up in the 1860 Reynolds Co. Census. My husband's family decends from one of those twins, MOSES(b. 1-2-1867 - his twin may have been named Henry). This situation meant that a lot of information and records were lost. I wondered whether you might know anything about the Edmunds? Charles, Jane or their son Moses in particular. I believe that they were taken in by the Edmonds in Missouri. They would have had to come and get the surviving children. Would there be a record of these children being orphaned and then adopted? I am hoping that you can help since I am at a loss. The surname is often misspelled. I've even seen Edmins...... I would appreciate any information that anyone might have.
