QUEST LILE FUNERAL HOME RECORDS

The Quest Lile Funeral Home was owned by Lewis Quest and his wife Marie and a Mr. Brothers.

Later Mr. Brothers wanted to sell his half interest to retire and return home.

W. Ray Lile bought Mr. Brothers interest in the funeral home probably around 1945. He wanted a business his son, George David Lile, to be involved in once he returned from military service. When George David Lile returned he did enter into the business with his father and Mr. Quest. W. Ray Lile, was county collector for 12 years.

Once Lewis Quest was ready to retire and return to his home, George David Lile bought Mr. Quests interest in the funeral home.

It was located on the corner of Main St. and Shaw in Richmond, MO.

The earliest death date is August 26, 1940.

In 1960 the business was sold to Levan Thurman of Thurman Funeral Home which is still in operation today. However, there are few entries of the year 1961.

Carter Rogers compiled the book and he states in his opening page…

Quest Lile Burials were compiled from hand written Biographical Notes which were a part of the Quest Lile Funeral Home records. The Notes were originally produced for each funeral from interviews with surviving family members. Information from the Notes were shared with local newspapers so that the newspaper personnel could prepare obituaries. Since the Notes were hand written, in many cases they were difficult to read. Thus, the newspaper may provide more accurate spelling of given names. Also, the newspapers will likely include parent’s names, if available, the name of the spouse, children’s names, and sibling names.

These data include birth date as well as death date. In some cases, it was apparent that the actual birth year was not known since the Biographical Notes did include cases where the birth year was calculated. Birth year calculations have not been checked.

Town location is not included for cemeteries located in Ray County, MO. For those cemeteries located outside of Ray County, a town or county location is included if the town or county was listed in the Biographical Notes…………..

Ray County, Missouri Marriages

Revised and corrected in 2004

1821 to 1850

in alphabetical order

The Ray County Missouri Recorders office undertook the project of correcting the early marriages of this county and recording them in the computer. The written copies (those that someone has undertaken to transpose into book form) of the Ray county marriages seem to have several mistakes. Filing dates have been taken for marriage dates and several names are incorrect.

Also, some records were not recorded until a year after the marriage, which means that it might not have been recorded in the “Marriage Record Book” that you assume the record “should” be in. It could be in the next marriage book.

Shirley O'dell, Ray County Recorder and Judy McBee of that office are placed these names in the computer. Carol Proffitt.
