PUTNAM COUNTY MISSOURI AHGP MILITARY FILES U. S. House Committee on Invalid Pensions
William H. Masterson, January 6, 1930
H.R. 4794. William H. Masterson, aged 67 years, whose post-office
address is Powersville, Mo., is the helpless and dependent son of
Henry Masterson, late a private, Company M, Seventh Regiment Missouri Cavalry, from
September 16, 1862, to August 11, 1864, and who
died August 18, 1878.
The parents of this claimant were married May 15, 1859. The
mother was pensioned as the soldiers widow under certificate No.
186262 to the date of her death July 15, 1929.
Claimant has no title to pension under existing laws for the reason
the mother failed to have his name continued on the roll as a helpless
and dependent person when he attained the age of 16.
The medical and other evidence filed in support of this bill indicates claimant is the legitimate son of the soldier and that he has been
a mentally weak and deficient person all his life.
Claimant has something like $100 in cash and an undivided interest
or equity in 118 acres of land, from which he derives an annual income
of $35 to $40. He has no other means, property, or source of income.
No one is legally bound to his support.
It is recommended that his name be placed on the pension roll at the rate of $20 a month.
