A post village of Putnam county, York township, 21 miles from Unionville. It contains one flouring mill and two stores. Population 100.

A post office of Putnam county, Liberty township, situated on Chariton river, 190 miles from St. Louis and 125 from Jefferson City. The post office has been established 14 years. Coal is found here.

HARTFORD

A post village of Putnam county, Elm township, 10 miles from Unionville, the county seat. It was first settled by John J. Brasfield six years since. It contains one Cumberland Presbyterian church and one Masonic lodge, viz., Hartford, No. 171. Population, 33.

MARTINSTOWN

A post office of Putnam county.




NEWTOWN

A post village of Putnam county, Medicine township, situated on Medicine Creek, I8 miles from Unionville, the county seat, 300 miles from St. Louis, and 185 from Jefferson City. The chief products are wheat, corn, tobacco, timber, oak, hickory walnut, &c. Average price of uncultivated land $6 per acre; cultivated $8. Newtown contains four churches: one Baptist, one Methodist, one Presbyterian and one Christian; population 50.
