Platte City Cemetery (Hillcrest)

Platte City Cemetery

Platte City Cemetery lies to the North and East of Platte City, Missouri. It is composed of four cemeteries, respectively entitled, Riverview, Marshall, Hillcrest and Platte Memorial Park. The latter is the newest part and no survey was made at this time.

The County Court in June 1869 granted to Platte City Blocks 1 and 2 and the street between them for burial purposes and appointed Ira Norris, Sr., to make the deed, which is recorded in Book V, page 408. The plat isfound in Platte County Deed Book 10, page 563. This transaction also appears on page 474 of Paxton's Annals.

Probably the earliest burial is that of Thomas Green in the Marshall Cemetery in 1813. The Greens and Marshalls were related and this area was probably used as a family burial ground before it was officially a cemetery.

Marshall Cemetery comprises one acre and it is surrounded on three sides by Hillcrest, which was established many years later.

Probably the earliest birth date is that of Joseph Morgan, a Revolutionary soldier, who was born in 1739. His grave is near the eastern boundary of Riverview Cemetery.

This survey has been made in four parts as follows: Marshall, Hillcrest and Riverview. Parts One and Two.

Riverview, Part One includes the area lying West of the Third Street driveway. Part Two lies between Second and Fourth Streets, east of the same driveway.
