VOLUNTEER FOR LOOKUPS

I am the genealogist for the Platte County Historical & Genealogical Society. I keep pretty busy helping people who write in and, therefore, have just recently taken the time to get involved in looking through the Internet for genealogical services.

Platte County Historical Society will look for your ancestors from within its file of over 65,000 published records in our 14 books (marriages, deaths, cemetery, censuses from 1839 to 1870 and later, depending on record type).

Please send us (1) your complete snail-mail address (so we can mail you our finished report, and any copies of original documents we find for you), (2) enough information about your ancestor to assure we can find the right individual, and (3) the specific information you are seeking. (We are presently not staffed to respond to requests for "any and all information available about the ???? family" queries, but we are trying to move that direction).

There is a research/report fee of $10.00 for these nicely prepared printed reports, plus any document photocopies are charged at $0.25 per side in addition. We expect to spend about 1 hour in research and report preparation, postage and handling. No travel is expected to be involved in meeting this objective.

Please don't send funds with your query, we will "invoice" you when we send your report to you. If you have requested information that requires travel or other expenses beyond what is explained above, you will receive a response from us outlining what we expect those charges would be, and why.

I have relatives from Camden Point, Platte county, MO and thought I would send the following which might be useful: Camden Point: 1840 population was 8,913 with 853 slaves in the number. Six confederate soldiers were killed in a battle fought on land (now) owned by Mr. Montgomery on July 13, 1863. A marble monument marks the location. In 1848 a schoolmaster (and in 1849 a Judge) William Kincaid tried to get a post office established in his home on a hill or point at the present townsite. The name Camden was taken so with scotch persistance used the name Camden Point which stuck. In 1848 Wm. Kincaid also took the honors of donation the land and was the first of ten to donate $200 for the construction of a Female Orphan's School, or Female Academy. Under terms of the deed, the institution was placed under the control of no denomination and no minister was to have charge over the school. The subscribers were: Wm. Kinciad, A. L. Perrin, Wm. Perrin, John W. Forbis, Frank Forbis, Wm. M. Paxton. Later trustees transferred the institution to the stewardship of a christian church.

William Kincaid's father, Lt. James Kincaid a Revolutionary War Vet., and his wife Sarah Wilson were buried on their farmsite in Camden Point, MO. He participated in George Rogers Clarks Illinois campaign and survived the Battle of Blue Licks, KY the last battle of the Revolutionary War.
