#200 William James Yowell

William James Yowell, was born above what is now Newburg in Phelps Co., MO, May 17th 1855, and died on Rock Creek near Roby P.O., in Texas Co., MO, Oct. 11th 1899 at 9 p.m., aged 44 ys, 4 ms and 24 ds. March 28th 1878, he married in Platt Co., MO, to Miss Ida Grace Walters and by this union 3 sons were born unto them, all living, with their mother. Bro. Yowell was a son of Easton S. Yowell, and of a family of 4 sons, 3 of whom, Lindsey L., Isaac, and J. Edward Yowell survive him. After his father died his mother married Mr. Wilson and by her 2d marriage 6 children were born unto them, 4 boys and 2 girls=2 boys and 2 girls survive, Namely _____________ and ______________ with their father, Oct 13th 1899 at 11 a.m.,, I preached a funeral discourse at the Wm. B radford Cemetery, near Waynesville, from 1st Thes. 4X13 & 14 verses, using hymns "Further On" and 390 vocalist...After which our dear bro. in Christ was laid at rest, Oct 13th 1899 at 12-30 noon.


#201 Emily Jackson

Emily Jackson was born in Washington Co., MO, June 22d 1816, and died 4 miles east of Mound Valley in Kansas, April 10th 1899, aged 82 ys, 9 ms, and 18 ds. She was a daughter of Joseph and Mary Payne and of a family of 7 children, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. All are now dead. Sister Jackson was the divorced wife or 1st wife of John Jackson and mother of 14 children, 7 of whom survive namely: Sarah C. Askins, Lydia Earp, Mrs. Emily Hopkins, Martha Saltsman, Cynthia Jackson, Nannie Clark, and Mandy C. Renaud. Her grand children No. 52, 15 of them are dead. 42 great grand children, 4 are dead. Early in life she joined the M.E. Church and in 1871 she joined the Bap. Ch. in Crawford Co., MO, and at the time of her death, she was a member to the Baptist Ch. at Edg ar Springs, in Phelps Co., MO. A funeral discourse was delivered at Edgar Springs on Oct. 15th 1899 at 11 a.m. from Psalms 35X14 and by her request-sang-Peaceful death of the Righteous and God be with you til we meet again.


#202 Chloa Ellender Cordelia Hood

Chloa Ellender Cordelia, dau. of Wm. Thomas and Martha M. Hood, was born in Piney T., Oct. 11th 1899 and died there Oct. 23d 1899, aged 1 yr and 12 ds. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Watts Lawn Cemetery from Rev. 7X9 using hymns 288 in vocalist= "So fades the lovely blooming flower" on Tues., Oct. 24th 1899 at 3 o'clock p.m. Father and mother and 2 children survive, with grand parents, J.H. Hayes & wife.


#203 Arthur B. Brown

Arthur B. Brown was born in Tennessee, Sept. 22d 1816, married in Tenn. to Miss Elizabeth Martin, in 1847 he came to Missouri and settled on Beaver Creek in Phelps Co., and where he died Oct. 6th 1898, aged 82 ys, and 14 ds. Had 10 children, 6 now living. 30 grand children, 26 now living and 11 great grand children. First joined the M.E. Church and later the Baptist Church. I preached his funeral sermon at the Zion Hull Ch. Oct. 29th 1899 at 11 a.m., sun., from Phil. 1X21 and hymn "My head and stay is call ed away". Widow and 2 children present.


#204 Marshall Everett Clark

Marshall Everett, son of John Francis and Catherine Ellen (Woods) Clark, died at the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Woods, Nov 18th 1899 at 1 o'clock a.m., aged 1 yr, 2 ms, & 25 days, leaving father & mother and all it's grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Woods and Mr. & Mrs. W.T.J. Clark to mourn his early demise. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Edgar Springs Cemetery on Sun. Nov 19th 1899 at 2 p.m. from Matt. 18X10 and hymns "Further on" and "The Life Boat", after which the little one was laid to rest. J. J. Watts


#205 Martha Lawson

Martha Lawson, wife of Wm. Hamilton Lawson, was born in what is now Phelps County, MO, January 6th 1841, maiden name was Alexander, and a sister of David P. Alexander of near Newburg, MO, married W.H. Lawson at Edgar Springs and died 5 miles west of Licking in Texas County, MO, on Sun. Dec. 3d 1899 at 9 o'clock in the forenoon, aged 58 ys, 10 ms, & 27 ds. And was buried at the Hamilton Cemetery on Spring Creek in Phelps Co., MO, Dec 5th 1899 at 4 o'clock p.m. after prayer, ex. and song 284 vocalist by the wr iter. J.J. Watts Companion, 1 bro. and 7 child living & 2 dead 21 living grand children & 4 dead.


#206 Susan Marlow

Susan Marlow, widow of Parris Marlow, and mother of J.G. Marlow, was born in Wilks Co., N.C., Sept. 7th 1811 and married to Mr. Parris Marlow, Aug. 3d 1834, who died in Phelps Co., MO, Oct 26, 1865, aged 53 ys, 9 ms, & 19 ds, and since that time grandmaw Ma rlow lived with her son and died at her grandsons, where she had gone on a visit, W.F. Marlow's-January 24th 1900 at 9 o'clock a.m., aged 88 ys, 4 ms, & 17 ds. She was buried at the J.G. Marlow Cemetery Jan'y 25th 1900 at 2 p.m. Service by the writer. Le aving 1 son, 16 grand children, 15 now living, 48 great grand children, 39 living. Received religion 25 yrs. Funeral sermon at the Mathis School house on Sun. July 29th 1900 at 2 p.m. from 1st Cor. 15X25. J.J. Watts


#207 Ellender Cordelia Huff Johnson

Sister Ellender Cordelia Huff, widow of Frank J. Johnson, was born in Wayne Co., KY, July 2d 1822, and died at Jas. W. Ridens, in Piney T., Pulaski Co., MO, Feb. 22d 1900 at 1 o'clock a.m., aged 77 ys, 7 ms, and 20 ds. Sister Johnson, was twice married 1st to John Wesley Riden, May 6th 1841---2d to Mr. Frank J. Johnson. She was a daughter of John & Mary (Kelsey) Huff and was of a family of 8 children, all now dead. She was mother of 8 children only one now living, Mrs. T.J. Davis. Her grand children No. 1 6 with 13 of them now living, and her great grand children No. 23, with 19 now living, nephews & nieces No. 32, 15 now living. A member of the Baptist Ch. for many years. She was buried at the Watts Lawn Cemetery Feb. 23d 1900 at 2 p.m. on Fri.- Prayer & remarks by Watts, Hymn 283 vocalist.


#208 Hattie M. Gift

Miss Hattie M. Gift, daughter of Wm. T. Gift, was born on Little Dry Fork, in Phelps Co., MO, May 14th 1872 and died near Yancy, in Phelps Co., MO, March 6th 1900 at 6 a.m., aged 27 ys, 9 ms, & 22 ds. Service by me at the residence of (sic)song & prayer T hur. March 8th 1900 at 8-30 a.m., after which she was taken to Elk Prairie for interment. Leaving father and mother, and 5 brothers-James, John, Charles, William, and Frank and 5 sisters-Mary, Addie, Annie, Janie, and Katie- songs sung "Mary to the Saviour 's Tomb" and "O Land of Rest for thee"


#209 Alma Florence Lynch

Alma Florence, infant daughter of Martha Louisa and Rufus K. Lynch, born March 2d 1900, died at Beulah, March 10th 1900, aged 9 days, buried at the Beulah Cemetery on Sunday March 11th 1900 at 2 p.m. Funeral service at the cemetery by Rev. J.J. Watts.


#210 Lenna Elizabeth Ousley

Lenna Elizabeth, dau. of James S. and Leean Ousley, born in Liberty T., Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 15th 1893, died on the L. Black farm, near Spring Creek P.O. in Phelps Co., March 12th 1900, 10 min past 9 a.m., aged 6 ys, 5 ms, & 27 ds. A funeral sermon was de livered by me at the C. Ousley Cemetery, March 13th 1900 at 2 p.m., Tues. from 1st Cor. 13X12 using hymns "As vernal flowers that scent the morn" 2d "Mary to the Saviours Tomb" & 3d "My Heavenly home is bright & fair". Survived by father & mother, 4 brothe rs & 4 sisters.


#211 Elijah Daniel Mathis

Elijah Daniel Mathis, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Ann Mathis, was born on Spring Creek in Phelps Co., MO, Dec. 6th 1878, and died on the same farm March 12th 1900 at 6-30 p.m., aged 21 years, 3 ms, and 6 days. I attended his burial at the Smith Cemetery on Wed. March 14th 1900 at 2 p.m., with funeral service, using hymns, "When blooming youth is snatched away"="My Heavenly Home is bright & Fair" and "Mary to the Saviours Tomb". (Mother, 1 brother & 7 sisters living. A funeral discourse was preached at the Mathis School house on Sunday July 29th 1900 at 11 a.m. from the text Rev. 21X4 using hymns page 101 "My Heavenly Home is Bright and Fair" and 160 "Through sorrows night & dangers Path".


#212 Mariah Susan Webber

Mariah Susan, widow of Wm. Elijah Webber, was born in Bedford Co., VA, Feb. 20th 1841, married to W.E. Webber, in Rolla, Mar. 19th 1868 and died on Corn Creek in Phelps Co., MO, March 31st 1900 at 6-30 p.m., aged 59 ys, 1 mo, & 11 ds, and was buried at the Smith Cemetery, April 2d 1900 at 3 p.m. S funeral sermon was preached by me at 2 p.m. at the cemetery from 1st Cor. 15X35....Sister Webber was a daughter of the late Edward and Martha E. Williams, and was of a family of 9 children, 6 of whom survive her, n amely: Samuel Williams, of Bedford Co.; Alfred Williams; Edward G. Williams; and James Williams; and sisters: Mrs. Stiff; Mrs. Thurman; and mother of 8 children, 6 survive and 10 grand children, 8 still living.


#213 Mary Malissa Lanning

Mrs. Mary Malissa, wife of Frances Carley Lanning and daughter of Thomas & Manerva Denison, was born near Sherrell's in Texas Co., MO, May 22d 1872, married to F.C. Lanning, near Beulah, Oct 17th 1889, and died in Rolla, MO, April 16th 1900 at 11 a.m., aged 27 ys, 10 ms, & 24 ds, and her remains were brought to Beulah on Tues. Apr. 17th 1900 and buried at 3 p.m.. Service by Watts at the cemetery. Mother of 5 children, 3 surviving her with her companion and step-son. A funeral discourse at Beulah Ch. Aug. 1 2th 1900 at 11 a.m., Sun., from Phil. 1X29 & hymns on page 176 "____ should our tears in sorrow flow" and page 25 "Come my dear friends and mourn and mourn with you" by J.J. Watts.


#214 Catherine Virginia Ousley

Catherine Virginia Ousley, widow of the late Wm. Ousley, was born in Amhearst Co., VA, Aug. 12th 1825, and was a daughter of the late John and Elisabeth Logan (who's maiden name was Logan). Her father died in Pulaski Co., MO, Sept. 12th 1871, aged 104 year s and her mother died March 15th 1868, aged 80 years, 3 ms, ^ 6 ds. She was of a family of 16 children, 9 brothers and 7 sisters. Two of whom still survive her, namely, Mr. John Logan, Jr., who lives in Knox Co., Tenn., nearly 77 years of age, and Bro. Ja cob H.G. Logan, who with his companion and children are here today. She came with her parents to Knox Co., Tenn. in 1839, then 14 ys. of age, and the family lived there 12 years, then they came to Knotwell in Phelps Co., MO, in 1851 where they lived a litt le more than one year and where 2 of her sisters died. Then they moved and settled in Pulaski Co., MO, and where June 3d 1852 she was united in marriage with Mr. John York, who died Oct. 19th 1862 (a Confederate soldier), near Thomasville, MO, aged 34 ys, 1 month & 1 day. And by this marriage 2 children were born unto them, Sarah Elizabeth York and Bro. Lee York. Sarah died Jan'y 12th 1854, aged 2 months and bro. Lee York survives his mother. Feb. 2d 1873, she was married to Bro. Wm. Ousley, who died Marc h 19th 1890, aged 74 ys, 11 ms, & 24 ds, and after Bro. Ousley died she moved back and lived with her son and died there Oct 6th 1899, aged 74 ys, 1 mo, & 24 ds. The survivors of sister Ousley are one son, 2 brothers 5 grand children, 3 great grand childre n, 50 nephews & nieces, 28 of them are dead and 22 still living. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church for many years, and died as she had lived in the full hopes of immortality. A funeral discourse was preached at Rolling Heath Church by Watts assisted by Bro. Zumwalt, April 29th 1900 at 11 a.m. from Rev. 21

#215 Ruth Sibyl Heavin

Ruth Sibyl, daughter of Anvil H. & Margaret (Brookshire) Heavin, was born on Corn Creek in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 28th 1897 and died at the same place, May 22d 1900, at 3-15 a.m., aged 2 ys, 7 ms, & 24 ds. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Brookshire Cemetery, May 22 1900 at 4 p.m. Tues. by Eld. Watts from Matt. 18X10 and using hymns on page 7 written book "Alas! how changed that lovely flower" and on page 100 written book "Mary to the Saviors tomb" and on page 101 written book, "My heavenly home is br ight and fair". Father & mother, one sister and 3 grand parents living.


#216 Reubin Delile Edgar

Reubin Delile Edgar was born near Beulah in Phelps Co., MO, April 18th 1868 and died 3 miles north of Beulah, May 25th 1900 at 9-10 a.m., aged 32 ys, 1 mo, & 7 ds. Bro. Edgar was a son of the late John Delile and Drucellah (Denison) Edgar and of a family o f 8 children. The mother and 4 still survive, namely: Mr. William Zadock Sturgeon, a half-brother; Mrs. Leannah J. Kofahl; Mrs. Elizabeth P. Cook; and Mr. Alexander Edgar of Craddock. Marion, Nancy Ethel, John E. and Rube, dead. He was united in marriage to sister Susan E. Marlow Dec. 23d 1887 and 7 children were born unto them, 6 of whom with their mother survive. A funeral discourse was delivered by me at Beulah Cemetery, May 26th 1900 at 3 p.m. on Sat., from the text Isaiah 48X10.


#217 George Willis Hood

George Willis Hood, son of Stephen B. Hood and Sarah Ann Hood, was born 10 miles south of Rolla in Phelps Co., MO, Jan'y 5th 1877 and died of small pox in Springfield, MO, March 17th 1900 at 6-50 a.m., aged 23 ys, 2 ms, & 12 ds. He was of a family of 11 ch ild., 9 of whom survive him, with father and mother, and Grandmaw Earp. He died happy having obtained a hope in Christ on his death bed. A funeral sermon was preached at Bro. Hoods house, July 8th 1900 at 4 p.m., Sun. from the text found in Rev. 21X25 "Fo r there shall be no night there" using hymns from page 65 written book "Hear what the voice from heaven proclaims" and hymn on page _47 "Shed not a tear o'er your friends early bier".


#218 William Eaves

William D. Eaves and wifes funeral sermon. Wm. D. Eaves was born in Henry Co., Tenn., Nov 13th 1832, married in Henry Co., Tenn. to Miss Mary C. Arnold, Dec. 30th 1852, ca. to Missouri in June 1854, lived on the Dry Fork, in Dent Co., MO, one year, then settled on the farm where his son Henry, now lives, and died there June 2d 1898, aged 63 ys, 6 ms, and 19 days. Bro. W.D. Eaves, was a son of 13 children, 7 of whom survive and 6 are dead. Those living are Eld. Elisha, James A., Pleasant C. and Henry B. E aves,-and Mrs. PriAna Williams, Mrs Martha Hammers, Mrs. Emily Shaner, and those dead are: Mrs. Viana Tallant, Mrs. Mary Jones, Charles P., Albert, Mrs. Amanda Graves, and our lamented brother W.D. Eaves.

Mary C. Eaves, his wife, was born in Henry Co., Tenn., Aug. 23d 1833, maiden name Arnold and a dau. of James and Jane Arnold, and of a family of 9 chil., 3 of whom survive=Not quite 2 years after their marriage they came to Missouri and unto them were born 8 children, 6 of whom are still living, namely: Bro. J.P., John A., Dill, Mrs. Martha Jane Herod, of Winona, Sis, Sarah L. Kitchen and Henry T. Eaves. Those dead are Elizabeth Arminta Eaves, aged 3 yrs and Marion Calvin Eaves, aged 25 ys. Grand children 2 3, 21 survive and 4 great grand children. Bro. Eaves was faithful member of Enon Church. Sister Eaves never united with any church, but was a believer in religion and died happy. A funeral sermon was preached at the Enon Ch. Sept. 2d 1900 at 11 a.m., Sun ., from Psalms, 35X14. Hymns page 75 "We will sing you a song" and page 121 "O for the death of those". Her age was 61 ys, 11 ms, and 7 ds.


#219 Robert Sidney McCown

Robert Sidney, son of Perry Eli and Matilda Ellen McCown, born in Piney T., June 18th 1898, died in Piney T., Pulaski Co., MO, Sept. 13th 1900 at 2 a.m., aged 2 ys, 2 ms, and 25 ds. A funeral discourse was preached at the McCourtney Cemetery, from Rev. 7X9 to 17 and hymn page 6 "Almighty Maker of my frame", Sept 13th 1900 at 5 p.m., we laid him to rest.


#220 Black

Sister Alice Black, born Nov 24th 1884 experienced the Christian religion in March 1897, bap. by Bro. E. Eaves in May 1897 and died where born near Craddock P.O. in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 25th 1899, aged 14 years, 10 ms, & 1 day. Also Arthur Cleveland Black , born July 30th 1886, died May 21st 1887, aged 9 ms. & 21 ds. Also William Logan Black, born May 8th 18888, died June 23d 1890, aged 2 years & 15 ds. Also Zachariah Carroll Black, born July 25th 1891, died Sept. 9th 1892, aged 1 yr, ? mo & 14 ds. Childr en of Bro. William T. & sis. Anna Lee Black. A funeral discourse was preached at the Roseberry School house, near Craddock P.O. in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 30th 1900 at 11 a.m., from 1st Thess. 4X13-14 verses.


#221 Rosannah Mathis

Sis. Rosannah Mathis, was born near Wilksboro, Wilks Co., North Carolina, Aug 11th 1830, youngest child of Thomas Jr. & Annah Mathis & of a family of 10 children., all have now passed away. Was a member of the Baptist Church for many years, came to Missour i many years ago and died at the E.S. Mathis homestead on Spring Creek in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 28th 1900 at 25 minutes to 10 o'clock a.m., aged 70 ys, 1 mo. & 17 ds. I attended her burial at the Smith Cemetery Sept. 30th 1900 at 4 o'clock p.m. on Sunday e ve. A funeral sermon was delivered at the Mathis S.H., June 30th 1901 at 11 a.m., Sun. from 1st Cor. 13X12, hymn on page 1 "And let this feeble body fail.".


#222 Annalinah Gaddy

Mrs. Annalinah, wife of Rev. Richmond D. Gaddy, was born in Washington Co., Tennessee, Jan'y 20th 1815, married in McMinn Co., Tenn., March 6th 1834, had 4 child. Geo. W., Alfred M., died at 15 ys, Jackson C., died at 12 ys., and James Wesley. Her maiden n ame was Carrell, and died on Little Beaver 1 1/2 miles west of Rolla, May 6th 1866, aged 31 ys, 3 ms, & 16 ds. Taken up by J.J. Watts & reburied at the Morgan Williams Cemetery with religious service Oct. 2d 1900.


#223 Louisa Frances Rhodes

Sis. Louisa Frances, wife of Samuel Rhodes and dau. of Bro. Abner Ray and grand dau. of David Ray, was born near Corinth, 4 miles north of Rolla,, MO, Aug 3d 1866, married Samuel Rhodes, Oct 3d 1882 and died near the Rhea school house, near Pilot Knob in Ph elps Co., MO., Aug. 22d 1900, aged 34 ys, and 19 days. Mother of 8 children, all now living; namely: Rhoda Adeline, Velora Agnes, Abner Owen, Wilburn Alvin (since died), Edna Alvena, John Edgar, Samuel Robert, and Albert Alonzo. Sister Fannie as she was called, was of a family of 8 children: Wm. David, John Albert, Mrs. Mollie T. Baker, (Robert Lee-now dead), Mrs. Annie Belle Rand, Edward Franklin, and James Lemon Ray. She first joined the Baptist Ch. at Corinth, and later with her husband, she joined the M.E. Church. A funeral discourse was delivered by me at the Rhea school house, Nov. 18th 1900 at 11 a.m., Sun., from Rev. 21st __X4 and hymns p. 100 "Mary to the Saviours tomb" & p.25 "Come my dear friend". J.J. #224 Noah Harris

Noah Harris (proprietor of the Yancy Mills) was born at Lower Woodford, in the Parish of Morwenstow, Cornwall, England, March 5th 1832, and died at Yancy Mills in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 19th 1899, aged 67 ys, 6 ms, & 14 ds. And when 16 ys of age he came to America by him-self, served in the Civil War. Feb. 26th 1866, he married to Miss Elizabeth Jane Gillham, who survives him, and unto them were born 9 children, all now living namely: William Rosco, Cora B, John T., Homer G., Clara May, Alice B., Ralph L., M yrtle A, and Gertrude F. Mr. Harris was of a family of 8 children, 4 sons & 4 daughters. 2 sisters still survive. Grand children No. 13 with 12 now living. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Brookshire S.H. Dec. 30th 1900 at 11 a.m., Sun., from Ph il. 1X21. Hymns: "My Soul come meditate the day" & "My head & Stay is called away" J.J. Watts


#225 Catherine Keeney

Catherine, widow of Moses Keeney, and dau. of Daniel Stogsdill, was born in Pulaski Co., KY, Nov. 4th 1804 and died at Gilbright Mathis's house on Spring Creek near Edgar Springs, in Phelps Co., MO, Jan'y 13th 1901 at 25 min. to 11 o'clock p.m., aged 96 ys, 2 ms, & 9 ds. Her husband died more than 50 ys. ago. She was his 2d wife & by his 1st wife he had one child., Abner Keeney, father of Wm. Keeney, and his 2d wife had 6 children: Rebecca Evans, Sally Mathis, Gid Keeney, & Polly, wife of Dow Hargis, and Pe ggy and ______________ 2 are now living, Rebecca & Sally. Her grand children No. 39, 32 still living and more then 50 great grand children. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. 2 sisters & bro living=Bufe Stogsdill, Sabra, wid. of Ben Fore , & Betsy wid. of Abner Keeney. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Smith Cemetery Jan'y 16th 1901 at 2 p.m., Wed., from Luke 2X29. Hymns "There's a land that is fairer than day", page 160 and "My Heavenly home is bright & fair", page 101. And "The bason where I oft have lain", Page 158. J.J. Watts


#226 William C. Turley

Mr. William C. Turley was born near Moorefield, in Hardy Co., West Virginia. Married Miss Sue McMakin and died at Mr. Jeremiah Hedricks near Arlington, Phelps Co., MO, Dec. 26th 1900, aged 66 ____. He was buried at the Glover Cemetery Dec. 28th 1900 and J anuary 21st 1901 was taken up and taken to the Pisgah Ch. near Dixon, Pulaski Co., MO, and reburied Jan'y 22d 1901 after a funeral discourse at the Pisgah Ch. from Phil 1X23. Hymns on page 101-122 at 11 o'clock and reburied at 12:30 p.m. Father of 2 child ren a boy and a girl. The son survives and lives in Washington. His wife and daughter both are dead. J.J. Watts


#227 Richard Henagar Dunham

Mr. Richard Henagar Dunham was born in Warren Co., Tennessee, April 10th 1828. Died near Edgar Springs in Phelps Co., MO, Feb. 19th 1901 at 11 p.m., aged 72 ys, 10 ms, & 9 ds. His father's name was Medlin J. & his mother's name was Nancy L. Dunham, and th ey had 5 children: Amanuel R., Mary & Nancy Dunham surviving. (& Mr. Dunham had 7 child. by his 2d wife) 3 of them are living. Mr. R.H. Dunham, moved with his father from Tenn. to Jackson Co., Alabama in 1839, and there he was united in marriage with Miss A ltaline Jane Morris. In 1848 Feb. 24th and unto them were born 9 children, 1st infant and 2d John who was drowned, 3d James R., 4th Isaac A., 5th Elisabeth, 6th Rebecca Jane Hanrahan,, 7th Francis, 8th Monroe, 9th Joseph C.. 7 surviving. Came to MO in 18 55. His grand children No. 28, 24 living. Experienced religion in 1845. Was buried at Edgar Springs Cemetery Feb. 21st at 2 p.m., Thur. Religious service by J.J. Watts Rec. $5


#228 Ataline Jane Dunham

Mrs. Ataline Jane, widow of the late Richard H. Dunham, born in Jackson Co., Alabama, Sept. 14th 1828, maiden name Morris, married R.H. Dunham Feb. 24th 1848, died on Little Piney N.E. of Edgar Springs, April 16th 1901 at 5 p.m., aged 72 ys, 7 ms, & 2 days. Caused by LaGrippe & dropsey of the stomach. Sister Dunham was mother of 9 children, 7 now living: James R., Isaac A., Martha Elisabeth, Mrs. J.M. (Rebecca Jane) Hanrahan, Francis J., Monroe L., and Joseph C. Dunham surviving her, and their 1st child was William Thomas and he died when 6 ms old and the 2d soon, John, was drown when in his 15th year, drown June 10th 1863. 28 grand children, 24 now living. Her father served in the Revolutionary War & war of 1812. Came to MO in 1856. A kind Christian moth er. Her funeral sermon was preached in the Edgar Cemetery, from Rev. 7X9 to 17. Hymns 101 "My Heavenly ___" _______ page 102, after which she was laid to rest in the Edgar Springs Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Thur., April 18th 1901.


#229 Margaret Heavin

Margaret, wife of Anvil H. Heavin and dau. of Bro. N.J. and the late sister Mary J. Brookshire, born in Phelps Co., MO, April 16th 1875, and died at Aunt Peggy Kitchen's farm near Yancy in Phelps Co., MO, May 3d 1901 7 p.m., aged 26 ys, & 17 ds. Sister Mar garet was of a family of 9 children, 7 of whom survive her-namely: Anthony R., Robert Lee, Emily Hanrahan, Charles L., John, Elias D. and Right. Sept. 9th 1896 she was united in marriage with Bro. Anvil H. Heavin, and unto them were born 3 children: 1st Ru th Sibyl Heavin, born Sept. 28th 1897, died May 22d 1900, second Mary Magdalene born June 11, 1899; and baby _____ born March 25th 1901. Last two surviving. June 5th 1887 I had the pleasure of burying her in a liquid grave in Baptism, May 4th 1901, she wa s buried in the Brookshire Cemetery by the side of her eldest child. After prayer by J.J. Watts at 6 p.m. A funeral discourse was delivered at Edgar Springs Ch. June 23d 1901 at 11 a.m., Sun., from Rev. 21X4, using No. 8 in written book "Alas how changed that lovely flower". J.J. Watts


#230 John Perry Logan

Bro. John Perry Logan was born near Tribune, Pulaski Co., MO, Sept. 23d 1860 & died 2 miles above Spring Creek P.O. in Pulaski Co., MO., Feb. 4th 1901 aged 40 ys, 4 ms, & 11 ds. A son of J.H. Logan & Martha Logan, and of a family of 13 chil., 8 surviving w ith father & Mother. Aug. 27th 1882 he married Nancy Emeline Wayman & unto them were born 4 child. all living--nephews & nieces No 54 & 42 living. Obtained a hope in Christ when about 14 years of age and joined the Friendship Ch. and at his death was a me mber of the Free Bap. Ch. at Spring Creek. On Sun., May 26th 1901 a funeral discourse was preached at Rolling Heath Ch. from Rev. 21X4 using hymns "My Heavenly Home is bright & fair" J.J. Watts


#231 Cleveland Windfield Webber

Cleveland Windfield Webber, son of the late William Elijah and the late Mariah Susan (Williams) Webber, died at his brother's home (John E. Webber), June 23d 1901 at 10=25 a.m. aged 16 ys, 8 ms, 17 ds. Cleve was of a family of 8 children, 5 of whom survive : John Edward, William Franklin, Mrs. Minnie G. Yowell, James Henry, and Mrs. Mary Ellen Stewart. In March 1900 he had pneumonia fever when his mother died and from which he never fully recovered, & his Lungs became involved and he died of consumption of the lung's A dear good boy. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Smith Cemetery, June 24th 1901 at 3 p.m. from Job. 14X14. Using hymns page 160 "Through sorrows night & dangers path" and "There's a land that is fairer than day", after which our dear y oung friend was laid at rest. J.J. Watts


#232 William Storr

Mr. William Storr was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, Feb. 10th 1828, died 4 1/2 miles south of Rolla, MO, June 26th 1901 at 12 noon, aged 73 ys, 4 ms, & 16 ds. Mr. Storr was educated in Triebingen, Germany, came to America in 1859 and first lived in Chicago and from there to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and where he was married to Miss Gertrude Myers June 21st 1866, and with his wife moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and in 1870 they moved to Phelps Co., MO., and settled on the farm where he died. He was father of 6 children, 2 of whom survive; namely, William Frederick, and Augustus Edward. He was of a family of 14 children, 3 of whom were living when last heard from. All in Germany. One sister came to the U.S., but went back to Germany. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Beaver Creek Cemetery, June 27th 1901 at 11 a.m., Thurs., from Isa. 48X10. Hymns on page 100 & 101 written book.


#233 Wilford Elza McCowan

Wilford Elza, son of Perry E. & Matilda Ellen McCown, born near Duke in Pulaski Co., MO, March 19th 1900, died at his grandfathers Mr. Robert Warren's near Duke, July 3d 1901 at 6-15 p.m., aged 1 yr, 3 ms & 14 ds. Of a family of 4 children, 2 still living, Malissa Jane and Nora Lavana McCown. Grandfather & grandmother Warren & Vitula McCown still living and 7 uncles & 7 aunts still living. Service at the house & at the grave July 4th at 3 p.m. on Thurs. and buried at the McCourtney grave yard. by J.J. Watts


#234 Alfred Felix Huffman

Alfred Felix Huffman was born on Elk Prairie in Phelps Co., MO, March 9th 1844 and died near Elk Prairie Ch. in Phelps Co., Jan'y 5th 1901 aged 56 ys, 9 ms, & 26 ds. Bro. Huffman was the son of Alfred and Sarah Jane Huffman and of a family of 12 children, 3 of whom were half-brothers as Mrs. Huffman, the mother first married her cousin Mr. Thomas C. Jones (maiden name Jones) and by her 1st marriage were born:

1st Hugh Lawson Jones born June 11th 1830, died Sept. 2d 1860.
2d Richard Douglas Jones born Apr. 5th 1832.
3d Wm. Mitchell Jones born Nov. 3d 1833, died May 23d 1900.
and 9 children in the Huffman family.
4th Elizabeth Huffman (Malone) born June 21st 1836, died
5th Aldamira Huffman (Richardson) born Feb. 15th 1838.
6th Nancy Ann Huffman (Brown) born Apr. 9th 1839.
7th Martha Jane Huffman born Sept. 29th 1840, died
8th John Whitley Huffman born May 8th 1842.
9th Alfred Felix Huffman born March 9th 1844, died Jan'y 5 1901
10th Thornton S. Huffman born Feb. 24th 1846
11th Sarah R. Huffman (O'Haver) born Nov. 7th 1848
12th Thomas J. Huffman born Nov. 27th 1851

Six of whom survive him Aldamira, Nancy Ann, John W., Thornton S., Sarah R., and Thomas J. In 1867 Apr. 11th Bro. Huffman was united in marriage with Miss Charlotte M. Armstrong and who survives him, and of this union 5 children were born unto them. All s till living: Mrs. Sarah Jane Packard, Mrs. Isabella A. Tillott, Mrs. Anna Evelyn Smith, Mr. Joseph Addison Huffman, and Mr. Archibald A Huffman. His grand children No. 9, all living. A member of the Presbyterian Ch. at Elk Prairie for 31 ys. and a Deacon of same since 1870. Served in the Union Army, enlisted Nov. 9th 1863, commissioned as Sergeant May 1st 1864, served in Co. A, 12 Regt. of Missouri Cavalry and discharged at Fort Levenworth, Kansas, in April 1865, then served one year more out on the plain s, quelling Indian disturbances.

A funeral discourse was delivered at the Elk Prairie Ch. in Phelps Co., MO, by J.J. Watts, July 28th 1901 at 11 a.m. from Phil. 1X21 using hymns page 176 "Why should our tears in sorrow flow", "When God recalls his own", and page 101 "My Heavenly home is br ight and fair".


#235 Betsey Ann Rockwell

Betsey Ann, wife of Chester Rockwell, was born in Crawford Co., Penn., May 4th 1829, died near Tribune in Cullen T. Pulaski Co., MO, Aug. 19th 1901, at 3-30 a.m., aged 72 ys, 3 ms, & 15 ds. Her maiden name was Spaffor?. She was married to Mr. Rockwell in 1845, who survives her (and who was born Apr. 30th 1825. Mother of 10 child., 5 boys & 5 girls, Henry, Willis, Roder, Gilbert, and John, all living and Louisa, who is dead, Lydia, who is dead, Emma still living, Genette who is dead and Della who is still l iving. 19 grand children, 16 living. Sister Rockwell has been a member of the church 56 ys. first joining the Free Baptist when 16 ys of age, and later in life joined the M.E. Church. At her grave was sung by her request "There will be room in Heaven", a nd at the home was preached by her request a funeral discourse from Rev. 14X13. A text of her own choosing, after which, at the Logan Cemetery her remains were laid at rest. J.J. Watts


#236 Sarah Henderson

Sarah, daughter of John and the late Bertha (Sparks) Henderson, (the only child), was born at Arlington, Feb. 28th 1901 and died at Arlington, Sept. 14th 1901, aged 6 ms & 16 ds, was brought to the Pisgah Ch. where a funeral sermon was preached at 12-30 p.m ., Sun., Sept. 15th 1901 from Matt. 18X10 using hymns on page 7, "Alas how changed that lovely flower". Only a father surviving.


#237 Alvin Everett Brown

Alvin Everett, son of George Richardson and Malissa Adaline (Dykes) Brown, was born in Phelps Co., MO., Jan'y 25th 1887 and died in South Dillon T., Phelps Co., MO, June 12 1900 at 11 p.m., aged 13 ys, 4 ms. & 17 ds. Was of a family of 12 children, 7 of wh om survive him and his grand mother Dykes still lives. On Sunday Sept. 29th 1901 at 11 a.m. at the Dean School house I preached his funeral from Isa. 48X10. Children living 7, Mrs. Mary Ellen Klinesmith, Mrs. Victoria _stman, John Walter, Miss Dollie Rose tta, Charles Edward, Malissa Adaline, and one half sister Julina Evelyn.


#238 Jesse Alonzo Troxell

Jesse Alonzo, son of the late William Henry and Alta Troxell, was born in Zion Hill neighborhood in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 13th 1881, died in Rolla, from bleeding from an extracted tooth, Sept. 30th 1901 at 4 a.m., aged 20 ys & 17 ds. He was of a family of 6 child., two brothers and one sister survive him. A funeral discourse at the Zion Hill Cemetery Oct. 2d 1901 at 3 p.m., Wed., from John 11X11 to the 45 verse.



#239 Joseph Mack Heavin

Joseph Mack, son of Joseph Nickolas and Martha L. Heavin, aged 19 ys. & 23 ds. Killed in Eldora, Iowa, Sept. 24 1901 11 a.m. Bro. Mack was born near Edgar Springs in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 1st 1882. About two months ago, he with his two brothers Lee and D avid went to Eldora to get employment. He got employment with the Seiver Pipe Co., and at once went to work, and on the fatal day was ascending the elevator with a truck load of piping when at the second floor the elevator did not catch and stop, but he pu shed his trucks off and in doing so slipped and fell when the third floor caught him across the breast breaking his breast in and killing him almost instantly. His remains were brought to Edgar Springs and on Thur. Sept 26th 1901. Our dear brother was lai d at rest there. Father & mother, 3 brothers and 5 sisters survive him. A funeral discourse was delivered at Edgar Springs Ch. from Rev. 21X25, Oct 13th 1901 at 11 a.m. Hymns used 147 and 173 my song book. Bro Mack was a member of the church at Edgar's but for some reason was not a member at the time of his death.


#240 Levenwood Cook

Levenwood Cook was born in Bedford Co., Tennessee, June 25th 1829, and died at Beulah in Phelps Co., MO, Dec. 4th 1901 at 4 o'clock and 25 min. p.m., aged 72 ys, 5 ms & 9 ds.. He came to Missouri with his widowed mother and family and settled on the Bourbo ice north of Rolla, and married Miss Nancy Elizabeth Hutchason near Kimble P.O., Jan'y 13th 1859 and unto them were born 6 children, 4 of whom survive. Namely: John J., Joseph W., Martha Louisa Lynch, and Mary Jane Edgar. 12 grand children, 9 still living . He was of a family of 6 children, he being the last survivor. In 1860 he moved into Texas Co., MO, near Sherrell, Mar. 24th 1869 his wife died. In 1883 he moved to Beulah and where he died. He was buried at the Hutchason Cemetery, Dec. 6th 1901 at 2 p .m.. Sermon from Luke 2X29. Hymns on page 75-2 &101.


#241 Thomas G. Fleming

Thomas G. Fleming was born in Hyke, Scotland, Nov. 19th 1827, married in Hyke, to Miss Chrishana Fraser, Dec. 31st 1851 and she was born in Hyke, Dec. _1st 1827 and died in Rolla. He died 4 miles south of Rolla, MO, Feb. 6th 1902, aged 74 ys, 2 ms, & 17 ds . Funeral sermon preached at his residence Feb. 7th 1902 at 12 noon from Rev. 21X25 "For there shall be no night there" songs on page 10 & 101 after which he was taken to Beaver Cemetery and buried at 3 p.m., Friday.


#242 Alfrey Vandora Denison

Alfrey Vandora Denison, dau of the late George Washington and Mrs. Lutinza Denison - now Mrs. David Canoy -, died near Sherrill in Texas Co., MO, Feb 8th 1902 aged 13 ys, 7 ms, & 15 ds., buried at Sherrill on Sun., eve., Feb. 9th 1902 at 3 p.m. Service by J.J. Watts.


#243 Pearlie May Keeton

Pearlie May, dau. of Wm. Lenox and Sarah Keeton born in Piney T. March 14th 1902, died there Apr. 7th 1902 at 4 p.m., aged 24 days, buried at Watts Lawn Cemetery, April 8th 1902 at 5 p.m., Tues. Service of song & prayer at the grave by J.J. Watts Song No. page 8. " Alas! how changed that lovely flower"


#244 Elizabeth Ellen Hoss

Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen H. beloved wife of Mr. David A. Hoss and daughter of Mr. Thomas H. and the late Lucinda J. McMakin, born in Hampshire Co., West Virginia, Dec. 17th 1849 and died near Hooker P.O. in Pulaski Co., MO, April 16th 1902 at 11 o'clock & 50 m inutes p.m., aged 52 ys, 3 ms, & 29 ds. She was of a family of 5 children, she being the oldest, namely: John, Nancy, Susan, and Clay McMakin, 3 of whom, survive her. Namely: John & Clay & Mrs. Nancy Clements who resides in Douglas Co., Oregon. Sept. 8th 1869 she was united in marriage in Hampshire Co, West VA., to Mr. David A. Hoss, who survives her and unto them were born 3 children, two of whom survive: Mrs. Viola L. Dell and Mr. Wm. T. Hoss. Sally A. Hoss died Aug. 9th 1877, aged 2 ys, 7 ms,& 2 ds. C ame to MO in fall of 1870, went back in 1875, came back again in 1881 & since resided here. Buried at Pisgah Ch. Cemetery Apr. 18th 1902 at 2 p.m. Sermon from Psalms, 35X14 at 1 p.m. Hymns No. 185 & 158, Watts book, after which all that was mortal of Mrs . Hoss was lain to rest.


#245 Sherden Maze

Sherden Maze born in Pulaski Co., KY, Dec. 28th 1814, and died near Moab, Pulaski Co., MO, Aug. 11th 1902 at 9 p.m., aged 87 ys, 7 ms, and 13 days. Was four times married and was father of 11 children. Two by first wife, 3 by second wife, 4 by third wif e and two by 4th wife. She survives him. 3 children survive, Mrs. Nancy Ann Ferrell, James R. and George W. Maze. 13 grand children, 11 living. Bro. Maze was of a family of 11 child., 8 boys and 3 girls. On Wednesday Aug 13th at 10 o'clock a.m. service was held at the house by singing & prayer, after which his remains were taken charge of by the Masons and conveyed to the Dry Creek Cemetery where a funeral discourse was delivered by Watts, from Rev. 21X25. Then the Masonic ceremonies by Waynesville Lodg e. Burial completed at 1-30 p.m.


#246 Elizabeth Steward

Elizabeth Steward born in Hart Co., KY, May 3d 1829, died near Tribune, Pulaski Co., MO, March 10th 1902, aged 72 ys, 10 ms, & 7 ds. Sister Steward was a dau. of Jacob & Lydia Ann Miller & of a family of 10 children, one bro. living, Fielding H. Miller, wa s living when last heard from in Hart Co. May 17th 1849, sister Steward was married to Bro. James Steward in Hart Co., KY, and unto them were born 12 children, 9 of whom survive. Her grand children No. 51, 14 of that No. are dead and 37 living. Her great grand children No. 11, 2 of them are dead and 9 living. Aug. 31st 1902 at 11 a.m. at Friendship Church her funeral sermon was by J.J. Watts, from Phil 1X21. Estimated 300 people present. Hymns used "The bosom where I oft have lain"


#247 Charles L. Brookshire

Charles L. Brookshire, born at the Peggy Kitchen farm near Yancy, Phelps Co., MO, Oct. 29th 1870, and died in Rolla, Sept. 13th 1902, aged 31 ys, 10 ms, & 14 ds, leaving wife, Florence H. and father N.J. and one sister, Emily Hanrahan, & 5 brothers, Anthony K, Robert L., John, Elias D., and S. Wright Brookshire. Funeral sermon at the Brookshire Cemetery, Sept. 14th 1902 at 3 p.m. from 1st Cor. 13X12 & song "Further on" ceremonies & burial by the masons from Rolla & Edgars.


#248 Cora Catherine Hamilton

Mrs. Cora Catherine, wife of Thomas Felix Hamilton, was born in Pulaski Co, MO, July 31st 1872, died on Piney (3 miles below Spring Creek) Pulaski Co., MO, Oct 5th 1902 at 3 a.m., aged 30 ys, 2 ms, & 4 ds, leaving a husband and 6 children & step mother, and was of a family of 10 children, and dau. of the late Bland N. and Sarah Margaret Ballard. Mr. Ballard was twice married by his 1st wife they had 6 children, 3 now living. And by his 2d marriage there was 4 children, all living. In the family of 10 childr en, 7 survive. A funeral discourse was preached at the R.A. Hamilton Cemetery, Oct 6th at 2 p.m.,Mon., from 1st Cor. 13X12. Hymns "Further on" & on page 25, "Come my dear friends and mourn with me".


#249 Abi Sneed

Sister Abi, wife of Thomas Sneed, and dau. of Rev. A. Hendrix, born in Rush Co., Indiana, May 23d 1864, and died in Rogers, Benton Co., Arkansas, April 30th 1902 at 7 o'clock p.m., aged 37 ys, 11 ms, & 7 ds. Sister Sneed was of a family of 7 children: Eli zabeth Jane, John Finley, Wm. A., Daniel F., Abi, our lamented sister, Mary Josephene, and Andrew J. 4 of whom survive, namely: Wm. A., Daniel T., Mary Josephene, & Andrew J. Nov. 4th 1883 our sister was united in marriage with Bro. Thomas Sneed, who surv ives her. She was mother of 6 children: Herbert E., Zina E., Perry E., Estella May, Alexander H., Leroy L. 4 surviving, Zina E.,Perry E., Alex. H., & Leroy L. Her oldest child Herbert Eugene Hendrix since the death of his mother has passed away. He di ed at W.W. Huffs at Coalhill, in Johnson Co., Ark., Sept. 11th 1902 at 11 o'clock a.m., aged 20 ys. 11 ms, & 22 ds. Herbert was raised by his grand parents and was dearly beloved by them. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Hopewell Ch. at Newtown, O ct. 2d 1902 at 11 a.m., from the text found in Phil. 1X21 Hymns on page 176, 2d hymn "Why should our tears in sorrow flow", & "We'ar floating down the stream of time".
