Francis William, son of George M. and Lucy E. Shaw born in Phelps Co. June 20th 1892, died in Phelps Co. Nov. 28th 1894, at 2 p.m., aged 2 ys, 5 ms, and 8 ds. Singing, prayer and remarks at the Watts Lawn Cemetery by J.J. Watts, Nov. 29th 1894, at 4 p.m. Father, mother, 2 sis., grandfather and grandmother and step grandmother survive.

#131 Annie Mabel Williams

Annie Mabel, dau. of Calvin A. and Mary Louisa Williams, born in Piney T., Pulaski Co., Dec. 31st 1894, died there January 2d 1895, aged 2 days. Singing, prayer and remarks at the Watts Lawn Cemetery by J.J. Watts, January 3d 1895 at 3-30 p.m. Father, mother, 1 sister and all 4 grand parents surviving.

Jennie Benson, dau. of Simeon B. and Sarah Isabelle Lewis, born in Oregon Co., MO, January 8th 1892, died in Spring Creek T. Phelps Co., MO, March 11th 1895 at 9-25 a.m., aged 3 years, 2 ms and 3 ds. Singing, prayer and remarks at the Smith Cemetery, Phelps Co., by J.J. Watts March 12th 1895 at 4 p.m.


#133 Thomas Mathis

Mr. Thomas Mathis, son of the late Alexander D. and Margaret Mathis, born in Phelps Co., MO, Jan'y 20th 1847, died on Spring Creek, Phelps Co., MO, May 2d 1895, aged 48 ys, 3 ms, and 12 ds. Singing, prayer and remarks at his house and at the Smith grave yard, Phelps Co. by J.J. Watts May 4th 1895 at the house and at 10 a.m. at the Smith Cemetery at 2 p.m., on the above date. Wife, 10 children, 3 grand children, 2 brothers and 3 sisters survive. A funeral was preached at the Mathis School house Oct. 20th 1895 from Isa. 48X10 at 11 a.m. A large congregation were present with widow and all the children 10 in number, one brother F.M. Mathis and no sisters and many distant relatives.


#134 Enoch Solomon Mathis

Bro. Enoch Solomon Mathis, was born near Wilksboro in Wilks Co., North Carolina, January 1st 1824, and died on Spring Creek, Phelps Co., MO, May 15th 1895 at 11-15 a.m., aged 71 ys, 4 ms, and 14 ds. He was a son of Thomas and Annie (Davis) Mathis and was of a family of 10 child. 2 of whom survive him, namely Mr. Thomas Mathis, Jr. of Dallas Co., MO, and Miss Rosanna Mathis of Phelps Co. In 1848 Bro. Mathis came to MO with his brother, James J. Mathis and wife, and in 1850 he went back to N.C. and in 1853, he came back to Phelps Co., MO, and in 1855 he went to Dallas Co., MO and March 30th 1856 he was married to Miss Charlotte Wayman, who died Oct. 29th 1893, aged 58 ys, 5 ms, and 29 ds. Bro. and sister Mathis had a family of 9 children, 7 of whom survive him and 13 grand children are living. In 1851 or 2 he experienced the Christian religion and joined the Shady Grove Bap. Ch. of Wilks Co., N.C. and at the time of his death was a member of the Pleasant Grove Bap. Ch. Singing and remarks by J.J. Watts and prayer by Rev. A. Hendrix at the house and singing and prayer by Watts and remarks by Rev. A. Hendrix at the Smith Cemetery May 16th 1895, at the house at 12 noon and at the cemetery at 3 p.m.

A funeral sermon was preached at the Mathis School house from Rev. 21X25 by myself assisted by Rev. A. Hendrix, in connection with his wife, July 28th 1895 at 11 a.m., Sunday. A very large congregation was present. All the children were present. J.F. Mathis gave me $1 and James H. Mathis gave $1 June 8th 1895.


#135 Mr. Stephen Colyer
Mr. Stephen Colyer, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, April 1, 1822, on Brook Creek, and died on Spring Creek, Phelps County, MO, on June 1, 1895, aged 73 ys. and 2 ms. Mr. Colyer, married in Pulaski County, KY, Miss Niagara Ann Alexander in 1851, and in 1884 Mr. Colyer came to Phelps County, MO. They had 7 children; 6 girls and one boy. 4 of his daughters survive him, namely Mrs. Sarah Jane, wife of John W. Arthur, Mrs. Mary C., wife of Mr. Elmer E. Jokoy, Mrs. Elizabeth R., wife of Silas Whitaker and Miss Eliza A. Colyer. Mr. Colyer was a son of Richard Colyer who had 2 children, both of whom are now dead.


#136 Mrs. Eliza Ellen Perkins
Mrs. Eliza Ellen Perkins, wife of Edward Perkins and daughter of Sally Merrell, maiden name Wilson. She was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, Feb. 15, 1865, died on the El__ Hollow, in Pulaski County, MO, July 16, 1895, aged 30 ys, 5ms, and 1 day. Her remains were taken from her home to the cemetery at the Wagon Ford School House where I preached a funeral sermon from Rev. 21X25 at 4 p.m., July 17, 1895 after which her remains were laid at rest at 5 p.m. Relatives: Mother, 4 brothers and 1 sister. #137 Mary Jane Blake
Sister Mary Jane Blake, wife of Bro. J. S. Blake, was born in Dent County, MO, March 15, 1859, died near Ladd P.O. in Texas County, MO, May 16, 1895, aged 36 ys, 2ms, and 1 day. A sermon was preached by me at the Daniels Cemetery from Rev. 21X25 Aug. 25, 1895 at 11 o�clock a.m. There were present the husband, and 4 children and 2 brothers. Sister Blake was the mother of 5 children, 4 of whom survive. She was the daughter of William Jasper, and Martha Arena Wofford and of a family of 9 children, 6 of whom survive. A member of the Baptist Church at Baldridge. J. J. Watts


#138 Mr. Isaac Stephen Williams
Mr. Isaac Stephen Williams, a son of Thomas and Mariah Williams, was born in Texas County, MO, near Ladd Post Office, Jan�y 2, 1861 and died near same place on Feb. 15, 1895, aged 34 ys, 1 mo, and 13 ds. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Daniels Grave Yard September 8, 1895 from Isaiah 48X10 verse, at 11 o�clock a.m. One widow and seven children survive him and father and mother and was of a family of 12 children, 10 survive and a half brother. No member of a church, but professed religion in his last sickness. In 1880 he married Miss Mary Jane Yates. She died Jan�y 1905. (added later) J. J. Watts


#139 Jesse Lawrence McMahan
Jesse Lawrence, son of Frona McMahan, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, Aug. 13, 1894, died same place on Oct. 20, 1895 at 10 p.m., aged 1 yr, 2 ms, and 7ds. Singing and prayer at the Watts Lawn Cemetery by J. J. Watts on Oct 21, 1895 at 5 p.m. Monday.


#140 William Lee Hendrix
William Lee, son of Andrew J. and Maggie Hendrix, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, June 18, 1895, aged 2 months and 28 days. A funeral sermon was preached at the Bayon School House, Hopewell Church, December 15, 1895 at 11 a.m. from Rev. 21X25 to a very large congregation of relatives and friends. Father, mother, brother...J. J. Watts


#141 Minnie Manes and #142 Merilda May Manes
Minnie, daughter of James and Menerva Manes was born dead on Feb. 24, 1889. Taken up from the farm of Sam�l Brookshire Jan�y 10, 1896 and reburied at the Watts Lawn Cemetery. Also Meridla May, daughter of James and Menerva Manes was born on December 31, 1895 at sunrise and died in the same place Teasly Hollow, Phelps County, MO 5:30 p.m. January 8, 1896, aged 8 days. Both children were buried in one box at the Watts Lawn Cemetery, January 10, 1896 at 2 p.m. Prayer and remarks by Rev. J. J. Watts. Father, Mother, and 8 children survive.


#143 Charles Lloyd Keeton
Charles Lloyd Keeton, son of William Lenox and Sarah Keeton, was born in Maries County, MO, 7 miles N.E. of Dixon, December 15, 1895, died on the Lambeth farm opposite six crossing, in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, March 1, 1896, 2 o�clock a.m., aged 2 ms and 16 ds. Buried at the Watts Lawn Cemetery March 2, 1896 at 11 a.m. Remarks, singing and prayer by Rev. J. J. Watts.


#144 William Dotson
William Dotson was born in Galitan, now Saline County, IL, Jan�y 10, 1816, died at his son-in-laws Isam T. Mathis at 6:30 a.m., Spring Creek Township, Phelps County, MO, March 20, 1896, aged 80 ys, 2 ms, and 10 ds. Funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. J. Watts at the Smith Cemetery March 21, 1896 at 10 o�clock p.m. on Saturday from the text found in 1st Cor. 15X35. �How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?� After which the remains were laid at rest. 12 children, 8 of whom survive him. Ruth, daughter of Samuel B. and Ollie Gardner was born in Miller County, MO, September 25, 1894. Died in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, June 14, 1896 at 7:30 p.m., aged 1 yr, 8 ms and 19ds. Singing, reading scripture, remarks and prayer at the house and singing and benediction at the Bayon Grave Yard by J. J. Watts, June 25, 1896 at 6 p.m. - Father, Mother, one sister and one brother survive.


#146 Bessie May Page
Bessie May, daughter of Joseph Franklin and Annie Jane Page, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, Feb. 29, 1897 and died at same place, July 10, 1896, aged 4 ms and 11 ds. I preached a funeral sermon at the Hopewell Church from Rev. 7X9 verse, July 11, 1896 at 1 p.m. Burial at Bayon Grave Yard. Father, Mother, 2 children, 2 grand parents survive. J. J. Watts


#147 James Lane
James Lane was born in Putnam County, IN, March 12, 1836 and died at Yancy in Phelps County, MO, Nov. 26, 1895 at 11:30 p.m., aged 59 ys, 8 ms and 14 ds. A funeral discourse was preached by J. J. Watts at the old Beaver Church Aug. 30, 1896 at 11 a.m. from the text in Rev. 21X25. His wife Martha Ann Lane and 2 children survive, Mary Jane King and George Lane and 2 sisters and one brother, namely Pleasant Lane and Abigail Wishon and Mrs. Ruhama Zimmerman. Martha Ann gave me $1 December 1897. J. J. Watts


#148 Jesse Clarence Clark
Jesse Clarence, son of William James Jefferson Clark and Lovinia Clark, was born near Flat Post Office, Phelps County, MO, Nov. 7, 1895, died same place Oct. 1, 1896, aged 10 ms, and 24 days. A funeral sermon was preached by me at Edgar Springs Cemetery Oct. 2, 1896 at 4 p.m. Friday, from the text 1st Cor. 15X35. Father, Mother and 9 children survive. J. J. Watts

Stella Cordelia Elkins, daughter of James M. and Rebecca Elkins, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, July 15, 1895 and died at the same place, Aug. 5, 1896, aged 1 yr, and 20 days. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Ellsworth Church Oct. 11, 1896 at 1 p.m., Sunday, from the text found in Rev. 7X9. Father and Mother and his 7 children survive, and Grand father G.W. Shaw. Mr. Charles M. Thorpe, was born in Adair County, MO, March 3, 1850, and died west of Spring Creek, in Phelps County, MO, December 9, 1896 at 3 o�clock and 30 min in the afternoon, aged 46 ys, 9 ms, and 6 days. Religious service at the grave Dec. 10, 1896 at 4 p.m. Father, wife, 5 children living, 2 dead. Was of a family of 10 children 5 living and 5 dead. Mrs. Sarah, wife of Benjamin Franklin Merrell, was born in Fulton County, Ark. Nov. 15, 1840, died on the Woodland Hollow, near Moab Post Office, Pulaski County, MO, Jan�y 26, 1897, at 8:35 p.m., aged 56 ys, 2 ms, and 11 ds. Service at Watts Lawn Cemetery, Jan�y 28, 1897 at 3 p.m. and a funeral sermon at Pleasant Hill Church May 23, 1897 at 11 a.m. Sunday, from 21X25. J. J. Watts


#152 Jennie S. Margedant
Sister Jennie S. (Dooley) wife of O. P. Margedant, born in Texas County, MO, March 12, 1841, died at Edgar Springs, Phelps County, MO, Feb. 3, 1897 at 3 p.m., aged 55 ys, 10 ms, and 21 ds. A funeral sermon was preached at the residence from 1st Thess. 4X13 and 14 verses at 3 p.m. Friday Feb. 5, 1897. Buried at 4 p.m. Husband, 10 children, 9 living, one sister living.


#153 Isabelle Adelia Ross
Isabelle Adelia, wife of James H. Ross, was born in Pulaski County, MO, Dec. 15, 1853, died in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, March 5, 1897 at 7 a.m., aged 43 ys, 2 ms, and 18 ds. Prayer by Bro. Hendrix, exertation by J. J. Watts at the Hopewell Cemetery March 7, 1897 at 3 p.m. Husband-10 children living and 2 dead-of a family of 12-7 living. A funeral discourse at Hopewell Church by T. J. Zumwalt, Sept. 18, 1898 at 11 a.m. Sunday. I assisted text Gal. 3X9. Hymn 299 and 436. J. J. Watts


#154 William Black
William Black was born in Green County, East Tennessee, Dec. 17, 1818, died at his home near Braddock, Phelps County, MO, March 18, 1897 at 12 noon, aged 78 ys, 3 ms, and 3 days. Bro. Black was a son of Joseph and Mary Ann Black. At 18 he taught school and taught for many years both in Tenn. and also after he came to MO. Aug. 18, 1841 he was married to Miss Sarah Ann Hurley and in 1843 he with wife and one child came to Missouri and settled on the farm where he still lived at the time of his death. Two sons and four daughters, all but one daughter still living. Grand children 31, 25 living. Great Grand children 9 with 7 living, with his widow who survives him. Bro Black was of a family of 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters. One brother, Lewis Black of Waynesville and Mrs. Ellen Kirk survives him. He was a member of the County Court of Phelps County, Missouri 6 years. A professed Christian for 43 years, first a member of the M.E. Church 13 years, and a member of the Baptist Church at Enon, Dent County. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity for 40 years. A funeral sermon was preached by J. J. Watts at his late residence March 22, 1897 at 2 p.m. from Rev. 21X25 after which he was followed to the grave by 200 friends and buried by the masons at 4 p.m. ($2.00) J. J. Watts


#155 William Taylor Noakes
William Taylor Noakes, son of Elijah and Laura Arvel Belle Noakes, was born at Baldridge, Pulaski County, MO, Dec. 11, 1888 and died at the same place April 29, 1897 at 12:15 p.m., aged 8 ys, 4 ms, and 18 days. Service at the Trout Cemetery May 1, 1897 at 2 p.m., after which little Willie was laid at rest and a funeral sermon was preached at Baldridge Church Aug. 1, 1897 at 11 a.m. Sunday from Rev. 7X9 to 17. Father, Mother, one brother, 2 grand mothers survive. J. J. Watts

William Walton McDonald, was a son of James A. and Lucinda (Hawkins) McDonald, and was born in St. Louis County, MO, near Bridgeton, March 24, 1821 and died in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, Oct. 23, 1896, aged 75 ys, 6 ms, and 29 ds. A funeral discourse was preached at the Hopewell Church in Piney Township, May 30, 1897 by Rev. T. J. Zumwalt from 1st Thess. 4X14 assisted by Rev. J. J. Watts at 11 a.m., Sunday, May 30, 1897--2 sisters, 3 brothers, widow, 7 children living. J. J. Watts


#157 Hosea Brockman Page
Hosea Brockman Page, was a son of Robert and Elizabeth Page, was born in Spartanburg Dist., South Carolina, Nov. 7, 1813, married in Hamilton County, IL, Miss Isabelle Johnson and who survives him. He died at his son-in-laws, Jerry Lane�s near Moab, Pulaski County, MO, March 12, 1896, aged 82 ys, 3 ms, and 25 ds. A funeral discourse was preached by Rev. T. J. Zumwalt assisted by Rev. A Hendrix and Watts at the Hopewell Baptist Church from Rev. 22X14 on Sun. at 2 p.m., May 30, 1897. Widow, and 6 children living and 5 dead-one brother and one sister survives. J. J. Watts

John Pinkney Blake, a son of J. B. and Jane Blake, was born in Dent County, MO, Nov. 19, 1879. Died near Baldridge ___, Texas County, Nov. 15, 1896, aged 16 ys, 11 ms, and 26 days. James William Sullivan, was born in Phelps County, Missouri, April 3, 1855, and died near Flat P.O., Phelps County, MO, June 9, 1897, aged 42 ys, 2 ms, and 6 ds. Funeral service at the Smith Cemetery, June 10, 1897 at 4 o�clock p.m., widow, 1 child, 2 brothers and 6 sisters survive him. J. J. Watts


#160 Elizabeth H. Wilson
Mrs. Elizabeth H. Wilson, was born in Scott County, Virginia, Nov. 5, 1820, married 1st William Cleatan, 2nd James Washington Wilson, and died in Rolla, MO, Nov 23, 1896, aged 76 ys, and 18 ds. A funeral sermon was preached at the old Beaver Creek Baptist Church, June 13, 1897 at 11 a.m., Sunday, from 1st Thess. 4X13 and 14. Had 10 children, 5 living. J. J. Watts


#161 Mary Keeton
Mary, daughter of William Lenox, and Sarah Keeton, was born in the Ramsey Bend, in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO March 6, 1897 and died at the same place, June 18, 1897, aged 3 ms and 12 ds. Was buried at Watts Lawn, June 19, 1897 at 11 a.m., Sat., after, reading, remarks, singing and prayer by Watts. Father, Mother, and one brother survive. J. J. Watts


#162 Iona Tennessee Underwood
Iona Tennessee, daughter of P.M. and Sarah E. Underwood, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, Sept. 30, 1894 and died at the same place Sept. 18, 1897 at 12 noon, aged 2 ys, 11 ms, and 18 ds. A funeral discourse was preached at the Watts Lawn Cemetery from the text found in Matthew 18X10, Sept. 19, 1897, at 3 o�clock p.m. Sunday. Father, Mother, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, Grand mother and husband all living and present. J. J. Watts


#163 Nancy Redding
Nancy Redding was born in Wilks County, North Carolina, May 12, 1830, in 1846 joined the Union Baptist Church in North Carolina, March 16, 1848 married to James J. Mathis, in April 1848 started overland in a spring wagon to Missouri and lived first on the farm now owned by Wm. I. Lanning and then in 1850, moved to the old Mathis place near Flat, P.O. in Phelps County, MO, where he died. On Nov. 9, 1890 she married Mr. Anderson Redding and lived in Darlington, Gentry County, Missouri. In Oct 1896 she came back to Phelps County, Missouri, sick and kept failing in health until Nov. 8, 1897 at 9:30 a.m. She passed away at R. N. Clifts residence aged 67 ys, 5 ms, and 26 ds. A funeral discourse was preached at the Smith Cemetery Nov. 9, 1897 at 2 p.m. from the text found in 1st Thess. 4th chapter and 13 and 14 verses. After which she was laid to rest leaving 7 children living and 3 dead and 3 brothers: John, Isaac, and George Felts, Mrs. Susan Shoemaker, Mrs. Lucinda Redding and Mrs. ___. She was the daughter of Isam and Susan Felts. 61 grand children-53 living. ($1.00 from I. T. Mathis) J. J. Watts


#164 Abigail Louisa Low
Abilgail Louisa, wife of Clarence Eugene Low, was born in Roane County, Tennessee, May 7, 1838, married 1st Oliver Reed and 2nd Clarence Eugene Low. She died at Willow Springs, Howell County, MO, Dec. 28, 1891, aged 53 ys, 7 ms, and 21 days. A funeral discourse was preached by the undersigned at the Roseberry School house in Phelps County, Nov. 14, 1897 from the text found in Isaiah 48X10. One son surviving: Pink Reed. J. J. Watts


#165 Sarah Jemina Mathis
Sarah Jemina Mathis, daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Ann Mathis, was born in Spring Creek Township, Phelps County, MO, Aug 31, 1880 and died there Jan�y 29, 1898, aged 17 ys, 4 ms and 28 days. Remarks and service or funeral service at the grave Jan�y 31, 1898 at 1 p.m. and a funeral sermon at this school house June 12, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sunday from Rev. 7X9. J. J. Watts


#166 Dolphus Hermon Mackelfresh
Dolphus Hermon, son of Quiler and Nancy Ann Mackelfresh, was born in Piney Township, July 1, 1896, and died in Piney Township, Feb. 12, 1898, at 11 a.m., aged 1 yr, 7 ms and 11ds. He was buried at the McCourtney Grave Yard Feb. 13, 1898 at 4 p.m. Remarks by Watts---A funeral sermon was preached by Watts at the Ellsworth Church, from the text Rev. 21X4 at 11 o�clock a.m. April 10, 1898. #167 Francis Marion Maxwell
Francis Marion Maxwell (pet name Frank), son of the late James Bird, and sister Nancy Cordelia Maxwell, was born on Pea Ridge, Phelps County, MO, July 5, 1881 and died near Moab in Pulaski County, MO, Feb 25, 1898 at 5 p.m., aged 16 ys, 7 ms and 20 ds. A funeral sermon at old Sister Burgett�s Feb. 27, 1898 at 11 a.m. from the text found in 1st Thess. 4X13 and 14 verses. Interment at the Copeland Cemetery at 2 p.m. Mother, 2 sisters and 1 brother survive.


#168 James Hickman Ross
James Hickman Ross, was born in Gibson County, West Tennessee, July 19, 1840, married 1st Martha E. Parker in Gibson County, April 5, 1866. He married, 2nd, in Pulaski County, MO, to Miss Isabelle A. McDonald, July 5, 1869 and died in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO March 7, 1898, aged 57 ys, 7 ms and 18 ds. Singing, reading, prayer and exertation at his late residence and benediction at the grave, March 9, 1898 at 2:30 p.m. Escorted by the Odd Fellows and their service at the grave. Leaving 10 children living and 2 dead. A funeral discourse was preached in connection with his wife, at the Hopewell Church Sept. 18, 1898 at 11 a.m. by Elder T. J. Zumwalt, assisted by Watts from the text found in Gal. 3X9 and hymns used were No. 299 and 436. 9 children were present and Mollie was absent. J. J. Watts

Susie Jane Deer, wife of Amos Franklin Deer and daughter of William M. and Mary M. Whitaker, was born in Pulaski County, KY, June 12, 1875 and died near Moab P.O. in Pulaski County, MO, Oct. 24, 1897, aged 22 ys, 4 ms and 12 ds. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Ellsworth Church May 8, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sunday, from Phil. 1X21. Husband, 2 children, father, mother, 4 brothers and 4 sisters present. J. J. Watts

Alice M., wife of William P. Ousley and daughter of William L. Phillips, was born on Mill Creek in Phelps County, MO, March 6, 1871 and died at her father�s house on Mill Creek, Dec. 13, 1897, aged 26 ys, 9 ms and 7 ds. Sister Alice was of a family of three children, 2 of whom survive her, namely: Mrs. Charles L. Phillips and Mrs. Jennie Smith, wife of George S. Smith. She was the mother of 3 children, namely: John Franklin, Charles Ernest, and Ida Ellen Ousley, all living. May 22, 1898 I preached a funeral sermon upon her life and death at the Maze School House in Pulaski County, MO, from the text found in Rev. 21X4. �And God shall wipe away all ters from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. #173 Elizabeth Renfro Whitaker
Elizabeth Renfro Whitaker, wife of Silas Whitaker, and daughter of the late Stephen and Niagara Colyer, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, May 14, 1864, married Silas Whitaker, June 23, 1894 and died near the Mathis School House in Phelps County, Missouri, Jan�y 8, 1897, aged 32 ys, 7 ms and 24 ds. She leaves two children, Nora Sippie and David H. She was of a family of 7 children, 1 boy and 6 sisters, 3 sisters living. Mrs. Sarah Arthur, Mrs. Mary C. Jocoy and Mrs. Eliza Ann McCarty. A funeral discourse was preached at the Mathis School House June 12, 1898 on Sunday at 2 p.m. from 21X4, hymn 293 in vocalist was sung. J. J. Watts


#174 Mary Brown
Mrs. Mary Brown, wife of John Brown, was born in Indiana Jan�y 4, 1846, the daughter of Isaac and Mary Earhart, both dead. She married John Brown Oct. 11, 1862. Came to Missouri and died near the Flat P.O., Phelps County, Missouri, July 1, 1898 at 25 minutes to eleven o�clock p.m., aged 52 ys, 5 ms and 27 ds. She was from a family of 6 children, 4 of whom survives her namely: Mrs. Sarah Etherton of Dixie, Henderson County, Kentucky, Mrs. Nancy Brown of Corning, Clay County, Arkansas; and Mr. William Earheart and Miss Mamie Earhart, half-brother and half-sister, who resides at Eldorado, Saline County, Illinois. Sister Brown had 10 children all now living. Prayer and singing at the house by Bro. T. W. Dotson, sermon at the cemetery by Watts from Psalms 35X14, Sunday June 3, 1898, after which sister Brown was laid to rest. A very large congregation present. Elder J. J. Watts $1.00 paid


$175 Martha Ellen Holloway
Martha Ellen, wife of James Omer Holloway, and daughter of Sherd and Saphrona Maze, was born at the old homestead near Moab P.O. in Pulaski County, Missouri, January 23, 1876, married to Mr. James Omer Holloway, January 31, 1897, and died where she was born, January 8, 1898, aged 21 ys. 11 ms and 14 ds. (Her pet name was Della) A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Maze School House, July 24, 1898 at 11 a.m. from Phil. 1X23 using the hymns 447 and 293 in vocalist. She leaves Father, Mother, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 child. J. J. Watts


#176 Mary Emeline Hendrix
Mrs. Mary Emeline, wife of Rev. Alexander Hendrix, was born in Stanley County, North Carolina, Oct. 11, 1830, maiden name Honeycutt. Her father died in North Carolina March 26, 1893. She married in Wilks County, North Carolina to Bro. A. Hendrix Feb. 20, 1851. She was the mother of 7 children, 5 of whom survive her, 29 grand children, 22 still living and 3 great grand children all living. 50 years ago sister Hendrix embraced _____, joined the M. E. Church and in a few years joined the old Union Baptist Church of Wilks County, North Carolina. She came with her husband and family to Rush county, Indiana, and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and from there to Pulaski county, Missouri and joined the Friendship Church and from there to the Pleasant Grove Church of Phelps County, where her membership was at the time of her death which took place at New Town near Big Piney P.O. in Pulaski county, MO, Aug. 10, 1898 at 10 o�clock and 5 min. p.m., aged 67 ys, 9 ms and 29 ds. Singing, prayer and remarks at the Hopewell grave yard Aug. 11, 1898. Hymns used in vocalist No�s 400 and 292. A funeral discourse was preached at Hopewell Church Oct. 16, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sun. by Bro. G. L. Schockley from John 14X1-2-3 and 2nd Tim. 4X6-7-8 assisted by myself using hymns 377-400-4__ and 478 in vocalist and Must Jesus bear the cross Alone. J. J. Watts


#177 William Hood
William Hood, was born in South Carolina, May 2, 1808, came from South Carolina to Illinois and married Mrs. Mary Weaver, nee Beckham, in Washington county, Illinois, June 5, 1840, who was born in North Carolina, March 4, 1817, died on Beaver Creek Apr. 5, 1897. They came to Beaver Creek in Phelps county, Missouri, where he died January 1, 1894, aged 55 ys, 7 ms, and 29 ds. Funeral sermon by Watts at the Mooney Hollow at 11 a.m. Sunday. 2 children, 17 grand children 16 living, 3 great grand children. hymns #287 and 298. J. J. Watts


#178 Judah Mathis
Judah Mathis, was born on or near Spring Creek, in Phelps County, Missouri, January 21, 1861. Was insane for some years and died in the asylam at Nevada, Missouri, Sept. 29, 1897, aged 36 ys, 8 ms and 8 ds. She was a daughter of Alexander D. and Margaret Mathis. Was of a family of 14 children, 3 survive: Gilbright, Frances Marion Mathis and Mrs. Frank Fink. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Mathis School House Sept. 11, 1898 at 11 a.m. Sunday fro, Phil. 1X21. Hymns 287 and 400 vocalist. J. J. Watts.


#179 William Craddock
William Craddock, was born near Craddock P.O. in Phelps county, Missouri, July 26, 1847 and married Miss Stacy M. Dunham, Dec. 21, 1880 and died near place of birth, April 1, 1898, aged 50 ys, 8 ms and 5 days. He was buried at Beulah. I preached his funeral sermon at the Beulah Church Oct. 9, 1898 at 11 a.m. Sunday from 1st Thess. 4 chapter and 13 and 14 verses and hymns 390 in vocalist...Widow, 2 children living and 2 dead, was of a family of 10 children, 5 survive. #180 Benjamin Allen Ledbetter Brookshire
Benjamin Allen Ledbetter Brookshire was born in Coffee county, Tennessee Oct. 29, 1831, married in Phelps county, Missouri to Miss Catherine Anthony Aug. 12, 1856, member of the M. E. Church 48 years and died on Spring Creek, 2 miles north of Beulah in Phelps county Oct. 12, 1898 at 8 p.m., aged 66 ys, 11 ms and 13 ds, 10 children, 8 survive, 31 grand children, 29 survive, was of a family of 9 children, 4 survive: Susan M Hale, Josiah D. Brookshire, N. J. and Sam�l A. Brookshire. Funeral service at the residence and at the cemetery at Relfe at the house at 11 a.m. and at Relfe at 3:30 p.m. after which Uncle Allen was laid to rest, Oct. 14 1898. A funeral discourse was preached by me at Pleasant Grove Church July 16, 1899 at 2 p.m. Sunday in connection with his widow, from Phil. 1X23, using hymns 293 and 299 in vocalist--a large congregation present. #181 Elizabeth Caroline Trout
Elizabeth Caroline Trout, was born in Henry county, Tennessee, July 31, 1825, died at Baldridge, in Pulaski county, Missouri, Nov. 19, 1898 at sunrise, aged 73 ys, 3 ms and 18 ds. Grandmaw Trout was a Wofford and in 1850 she married John R. Trout and had 8 girls and one boy. 4 girls and the boy survive her namely: Wm. W. Trout, Mrs. D. D. Boyt, Mrs. Elijah Noakes, Mrs. Tom Haley and Mrs. Julia Ann Lane. Nov. 20, 1898 at 3 p.m. she was buried at the Trout grave yard after service by Watts. Singing prayer and remarks. J. J. Watts


#182 Catherine Brookshire
Catherine, widow of Benjamin Allen L. Brookshire, was born in Washington county, Missouri, Decmeber 16, 1836 and was a daughter of Alfred R. and Permelia Anthony and Aug. 12, 1856, she married B. Allen L. Brookshire. She was of a family of 6 children, 3 of whom survive her, namely: Mrs. Lucy Woods, Mrs. Jerome Ledgerwood and Mrs. ___ Ryckman. She is the mother of 10 children__ of whom survive her, 32 grand children, 30 still living. She was a member of the M. E. Church many years. She died 2 miles north of Beulah in Phelps county, Missouri March 11, 1899 at half past 3 o�clock in the morning, aged 62 ys, __ months and 25 days. Buried at Relfe, March 12, 1899 at 2 p.m. A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church July 16, 1899 at 1 p.m., Sunday in connection with her husband. J. J. Watts


#183 James Richard Chambers
James Richard Chambers, was born in Texas county, Missouri (near Blooming Rose in Phelps Co.) June 5, 1860. His father, Jackson Gideon Chambers was born near Bellefonte in Jackson county, Alabama, March 19, 1834 and died near Blooming Rose P.O. June 16, 1872, aged 38 ys, 2 ms, and 27 ds. His mother ___ Elizabeth Ferrell was born near Raleigh, North Carolina, April 26, 1836 and died near Blooming Rose P.O. Oct. 6, 1877, aged 41 ys, 5 ms and 10ds. They had 10 children, 5 of whom survive namely: William L., Lee H., Mrs. Lean V., wife of James S. Ousley, Florence and Andrew J. Our lamented brother was the oldest of the family and was left fatherless at the age of 12 years to care for his widowed mother and his bros. and sisters. The mother died 5 years later and they were left orphans to be cared for by others and to battle with life�s great cares and burdens, March 20, 1881. Bro. Chambers was united in marriage with sister Catherine, daughter of Mr. Crawford Ousley, who survives him. 7 children were born unto them, 6 of whom survive, July 2, 1892 Bro. Chambers was baptized and joined the Baptist Church at Pleasant Hill, near Moab P.O. in Pulaski county, Missouri. He has ever stowed to the wourld and all around him his love for the cause of Christ, loved by all in life, and mourned by all in his death. Faithful to his companion and children, faithful to his Christian duties, faithful to the brotherhood of the mystic nil where he ever loved to meet on the level, and may we who survive him imitate his Christian virtues and as death calls us one by one, may we be reunited in the celestial lodge above where the Supreme architect presides. Brother Chambers died 2 miles from Spring Creek P.O. and in Pulaski county, Missouri, March 12, 1899 at 11 a.m., aged 38 ys, 9 ms and 7 ds., buried March 14, by the Free Masons at the Crawford Ousley Cemetery, Waynesville Lodge. #184 Margaret E. Burgett
Sister Margaret E., widow of Mr. Isaac David Burgett and daughter of Mr. Siotha Lewis, was born near Fayetteville in Washington county, Arkansas, January 25, 1839 and died at Fulton (asylum for the insane) Callaway county, Missouri, March 16, 1899, aged 60 ys, 1 mo and 21 days. Sister Margaret Elizabeth Burgett, had Bro�s and sister�s all of whom have passed away. Oct. 9, 1856, she was united in marriage with Mr. Burgett and who died June 18, 1879. They had 11 children, 8 of whom survive her, namely: Sister Mrs. Cordelia Copeland, Sister Fannie Kelley, Mrs. Amanda Woods, Sister Mattie Maxwell, Sister Frances Roderick, Mr. Wm. Burgett, Sister Louisa Ferrell, Sister Emma Ousley, and grand children No. 36, 29 of whom are still living. 27 years a member of the Baptist Church, 17 years at Mt. Olive Church, and 10 at Pleasant Hill Church. Her remains were brought to Newburg and taken to Mt. Olive Church, where I preached a discourse from Phillipines 1X23, using hymns 283 vocalist and 478 same book and No. 300 at the grave. Burial at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 1899. at Mt. Olive Cemetery.


#185 Marion Houston Ousley
Marion Houston Ousley, was born at the C. Ousley home on Piney River - 3 miles below Pillman�s store on May 22, 1870, in Pulaski county, Missouri, and died up on the hill on same farm, but in Phelps county, Missouri, April 26, 1899 at 10 minutes past 2 p.m., aged 28 ys, 11 ms and 4 ds. Burial and funeral sermon preached by me at the C. Ousley Cemetery, April 28, 1899 at 11 a.m. Rev. 7X9 to 17. J. J. Watts


#186 William Harrawood
Bro. William Harrawood, was born in Grayson county, Tennessee, Nov. 6, 1822, died in Allenville, Cape Girardeau county, Missouri, Oct. 25, 1898, aged _5 ys, 11 ms, and 19ds, buried at Allenville. In 1838 he came with his parents to Hamilton county, Illinois, and where he grew to manhood and married Miss Elizabeth Smith, and by this marriage 8 children were born unto them. Four of whom survive him. After the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Matilda Hines (nee Sprewell, nee Brown) Sept. 5, 1881, who survives him. A funeral discourse was preached at Pleasant Grove Church of which he was a member, April 30, 1899 at 11 a.m. from Phil 1X21 by the writer using as hymns, 390 vocalist-�my head and ___ is called Away� and 225 Gospel melodies-�Mother tell me of the Angels�. #187 Mary Jane Brookshire
Mary Jane, wife of N. J. Brookshire (nee DeWeese) was born in Phelps county, Missouri, Sept. 28, 1840, married on Little Piney, near Yancy, to N. J. Brookshire, Feb. 14, 1861 and died on Cork Creek in Phelps county, Missouri, May 3, 1899, aged 58 ys, 7 ms and 5 ds. When 8 years of age she went to live with Aunt Peggy Kitchen, and where she was raised to womanhood. In 1870 she experienced the Christian religion and joined the Baptist Church at Zion Hill in Phelps county, Missouri and at her death was a member of the church at Edgar Springs. She is the Mother of 9 children, 8 of whom still survive her with her husband. Her son George, a twin with Elias, was mentioned in the funeral discourse which was delivered by me at the Brookshire Cemetery, May 4, 1899 at 4:00. J. J. Watts


#188 Amos Franklin Deer
Amos Franklin Deer, was born near Moab in Pulaski Co., MO, Aug. 27, 1874, and was a son of the late John and Louvisa V. Deer. Was of a family of 9 children, 3 of whom survive him, namely: sister Annie Maze, sister Mary Jane Whitaker, and Master Walter Deer and his mother still living. June 18th 1893 he was married to sister Susie Jane Whitaker, dau. of Wm. M. & Mary M. Whitaker, who died Oct. 24th 1897 aged 22 years, 4 ms & 12 ds. Having 3 children born unto them two of whom survive the parents. Frank was sick only 6 or 7 days and died near Moab P.O. in Pulaski Co., MO, January 5th 1899 aged 24 ys, 4 ms and 8 days. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Pleasant Hill Church. At 11 a.m. at the Maze School House, May 28th 1899, Sunday from Isaiah 48X10


#189 William Pugh
Bro. William Pugh, was born in Carroll Co., Ohio, April 6th 1810, was of a family of 3, one survives. Bro. Pugh, married in Ohio to Miss Margaret Parmer and from their marriage 9 children were born unto them of whom 5 survive him. 5 ys ago he came to Phelps Co., MO, to live with his son-in-law, John Faulk & where he was cared for until he died June 15th 1899 at 6 a.m., aged 89 ys, 2 ms, & 10 ds. I preached his funeral sermon at John Faulk�s house June 16th 1899 at 2 p.m. Fri. from 1st Thess. 4X13 & 14 verses & hymns 382 & 293 vocalist - after which we followed him to the C. Ousley Cemetery and laid him to rest at 4 p.m. on Fri June 16th 1899.


#190 William Elijah Webber
William Elijah Webber was born in Rolla, Phelps Co., MO, April 5th 1845, married in Rolla to Miss Mariah Susan Williams, March 19th 1868. Experienced religion in 1887. Died with consumption on Corn Creek, 3 milesN. of Edgar Sprs., in Phelps Co., MO July 6th 1899 at 5 minutes to 12 o�clock p.m. near midnight, aged 54 ys, 3 ms, & 1 day. Bro. Webber was a son of John & Eliza Jane Powell Webber and was of a family of 10 children by 1st wife, 1 by 2nd wife and 8 by 3rd wife. 19 child in all, survivors 9 by 1st marriage and 6 by last marriage __ brother and sisters survive with step mother. Bro Webber has 8 children 7 living.

I was called and attended his funeral & burial and preached at the Smith Cemetery a funeral discourse from Rev. 21X4. Hymn 287 in vocalist, on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. July 7th 1899 after which he was buried by the Spring Creek Lodge of Masons. James Newton Blake was born in what is now Putman Co., Virginia (now W. VA) Aug 14th 1818, came to Jefferson Co., MO in 1850 joined the Bap. A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Roseberry school house, near Craddock P.O., in Phelps Co., MO, July 30th 1899 at 11 a.m. from Phil. 1X21 & hymns 287 vocalist, 3 child. were present...


#191 James Newton Blake
James Newton Blake was born in what is now Putman Co., Virginia (now West VA), Aug. 14, 1818, came to Jefferson Co., MO in 1850. Joined the Bap. Ch. at Sandy Creek in Jefferson Co., MO, in 1852. Was twice married. His 2nd wife survives him. 10 children, by 1st wife, 6 are living: Charles, Samuel, J. Sullivan & Jesse, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Mathis, and Margaret and by 2nd wife 5 children, 3 living Martha Ellen as Mrs. Asher - David Newton & Allen Wilson and the twins who are both dead, and he died near Craddock P.O. in Phelps Co., MO, Aug. 5th 1892 aged 73 ys, 11 ms & 21 ds. A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Roseberry school house near Craddock P.O. in Phelps Co., MO, July 30th 1899 at 11 a.m. from Phil. 1X21 & hymns 287 vocalist. 3 child. were present sister Mathis, David Newton and Allen W. Blake. Dinner on the grounds & Bro. B. H. Lanham preached at 2 p.m.


#192 Alice McManus

Alice, wife of John P. McManus and dau. of William R. and Martha Ann King, born near Edgar Springs, Feb. 2d 1870, died there May 2d 1899, aged 29 ys and 3 months. Married 1st Wm. B. Phelps, 2 children by 1st marriage one living and one dead. Married 2d to John P. McManus and one child was born unto them, Thelma Ann McManus. Experienced religion in 1886 and died in full hopes of heaven.


#193 Dora Ermine Harris

Also Dora Ermine, wife of W.R. Harris and dau. of Wm. R. and Martha Ann King, born near Edgar Springs March 25th 1871, and died St. Louis, where she had gone for medical treatment, Sept. 6th 1898, aged 27 ys, 5 ms and 12 ds, leaving one son, husband, father and mother. Joined the M.E. Ch. in 1886.


#194 James Moses King

Also died in Rolla, MO, July 5th 1899, James Moses, son of Wm. R. and Martha Ann King, aged 21 ys, 8 ms and 16 ds. He was of a family of 7 children, 4 of whom survive him: Wm., Rettie, Samuel and Clyde. A funeral sermon was preached by me upon their deaths at the Smith Cemetery, Sept. 6th 1899 at 11 a.m., wed., from Rev. 21X25. "For there shall be no night there" using hymns Beckoning hands and No. 298 vocalist "O for the death of those".


#195 Surrilda Jane Clark

Surrilda Jane Clark, wife of Josiah J. Clark, was born in Pulaski Co., KY, April 17th 1851, and died near Ulf P.O., in Phelps Co., MO, June 14th 189(?), aged 48 years, 1 mo, and 27 days. She was a daughter of Robert Miles and Annie Phelps and was of a family of 10 children, 9 of whom survive her. In Sept. 1868 she married to Bro. Josiah J. Clark and was mother of 5 children, 4 of whom survive, and 6 grand children, 5 of whom are still living. Joined the Baptist Church when 20 ys of age.


#196 Robert Miles Clark

Also Robert Miles, son of Josiah J. and Surrilda Jane Clark, born in Phelps Co.,MO, July 20th 1874, and died in Phelps Co., January 29th 1883, aged 8 ys, 6 ms and 9 ds. Children living are Andrew Lee, Martha Francis, John and Franklin Clark. A funeral discourse was preached by me in the Grove south of his house, Sept. 10th 1899 at 3 O'Clock p.m. from the text Rev. 21X4 using hymns, 476 and 478 in the vocalist.


#197 Ellender Dotson

Ellender, wife of Rev. Thomas W. Dotson, was born in what is now Phelps Co., MO, Feb. 28th 1835, and died near Flat P.O., Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 10th 1899 at 7x30 a.m., aged 64 ys, 6 ms and 12 ds. Sister Dotson was a daughter of the late Wright and Margaret A. Light and of a family of 13 children, 8 sons and 5 daughters, 7 of whom survives her: 3 bros. and 4 sisters. She was next to the oldest child. Nov. 13th 1856 she was united in marriage with Bro. Dotson and was mother of 9 children, 8 of whom survive h er, and 28 grand children, 26 still living. In 1872 experienced religion and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Smith Cemetery Sept. 11th 1899 at 3 p.m. on monday, from the text 1st Cor. 13X12, hymns 37 7 and 478 vocalist, after which our sister was laid at rest. Husband and 3 children were present: Marian, Price and Vabina.


#198 Blanch McCrae Webber

Blanch McCrae Webber, dau. of Wm. Elijah and Maria S. Webber, was born in Rolla, Sept. 18th 1882, and died on Corn Creek, in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 24th 1899, aged 17 ys, and 6 ms. A funeral sermon was preached at the Smith Cemetery, Sept. 25th 1899 from Re v. 7X9 & hymns, Beconing Hands and Further on. Mother and 6 children living.


#199 Infant dau. of Fred Lair

Infant daughter of Fred V. and Stella C. Lair was born near Craddock in Phelps Co., MO, Sept. 30th 1899, died there Oct. 1st 1899 at 7 p.m., aged 24 hours. A funeral discourse was preached at the Roseberry Cemetery Oct. 2d 1899 at 4-30 p.m. from Matt. 18X1 0. Hymn 291 vocalist.
