The local society of the Children of the American Revolution is off to a great start! It is sponsored jointly by the Ozark Mountain Chapter Sons of the American Revolution and the Rachel Donelson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

Membership is open to any child from birth to age 21 who can trace their lineage back to someone who rendered assistance to the American troops during the American Revolution. The local C.A.R. society meets 4 times a year at a designated location. We try to have a few special outings/field trips a year to make the programs more interesting and educational.

Having received approval of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution, the local society is known as the William Freeman Society Children of the American Revolution after local patriot, William Freeman, who is the only Revolutionary War soldier buried in the Springfield National Cemetery.

The organizing ceremony took place on Saturday, February 13, 1999, at Old Country Buffet, 1536 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, MO. State, regional, and local officers of the C.A.R., SAR, and DAR all participated in this momentous occasion. We also won some national and state awards for our participation in 1999-2002 and some later years. We hope to win some awards for activities in 2013 as well.

As an annual event, the William Freeman Society C.A.R. always holds a brief memorial service and laying a wreath at the grave of our namesake, Revolutionary War Soldier William Freeman. This is held on Memorial Day at the Springfield National Cemetery.

We won quite a number of national awards during 1999, 2000, and 2001, and we hope to receive equal recognition for future activities.
