Idylle GWYN Monroe County’s oldest resident, Idylle Gwyn, 107, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 1, 2006, at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home in Paris. She was born on September 14, 1898, in Audrain County, MO, the daughter of Charles R. and Agnes (Hunt) Wilkerson. She was married to John Ladell (Dell) Gwyn on September 8, 1922, in Mexico. He preceded her in death in 1960. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Paris and the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband owned and operated Gwyn’s Greenhouse in Paris until the early 1950’s. After her husband passed away, Mrs. Gwyn sewed for others until she was in her 90’s. She lived independently until she was 99 and then entered Miller Residential before moving to the Manor in 2001. She is survived by one son, James E. and Laurie Gwyn of Los Angeles, CA; two grandsons, Jonathan Gwyn of Mission Viejo, CA, and Christopher Gwyn of Jerseyville, IL; two great grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas Gwyn. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John DiBrell Gwyn; one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at the Agnew Funeral Home in Paris, with Reverend David Nicholson officiating.
