Madison Times

History of Madison News

“Madison Watchman was the first newspaper published in Madison. It was founded by Charles Reed in January 1885. The next year J.E. Kribs became editor and changed the name to “The Advanced.” The first edition was printed on a hand press where the type was inked each time that it was used. Henry Wade got the first paper that came off the press.

M.A. Leftwich purchased the paper and changed the name to “Madison Times.” After a few months, he sold it to Margaret and Nora Waller, and Cyde Eubank who edited the paper from 1900-1909. Clyde and Waller Eubank later became owners and editors for a number of years.”
