Museum

  • The museum is in the Monroe County Courthouse at 300 North Main, Paris, MO on the first floor of the courthouse in the north wing and contains many exhibits depicting life and the history of Monroe county. The museum is open during regular business hours of the courthouse which are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Special tours are available with prior arrangement. Donations to the museum are considered permanent gifts. To avoid confusion, loans of articles are not accepted.

  • The Monroe County Courthouse contains other items of historical interest in addition the Museum. More information is available at ParisMo.net.
  • Built by Charles P. Callis, this is a model of the James Fletcher Callis farm. Purchased April 16, 1867, the two sons of James Fletcher, Chester and Parrish, were born there. Chester lived there his whole life. As an added note, the brick used in construction was made on the farm.

  • Numerous stone tools found in Monroe County are on display in the Monroe County Museum dating from prehistoric settlement to the early 1800s.

  • Weaponry, farm and home items dating from early white settlement through the Civil War into the 20th century are on display in the Monroe County Museum.
