SURNAMES: HOWELL

I am researching Henry Clay Howell b. 1848, Marion County. Both parents  were also born in Missouri. I am also interested in learning of any  siblings Henry might have had. Henry could very well have been a slave.  Both or one of his parents probably were slaves as well. He appears in  the 1880 with his wife Nancy and children and is listed as mulatto,  which suggests he very well might have been owned and perhaps by a white  Howell family in Marion County. Only few families in Missouri owned  slaves in large number; however many families owned between one and six  slaves. Around the turn of the century Henry moved with his family to  Quincy, Illinois. There is some indication that Henry may have served  in the Civil War. All information will be greatly appreciated!

SURNAMES: SAVAGE

My name is Diane Crabtree and I am hoping that you can help me. I am looking for a cemetery. I thought that it was in Clark county, but I have found that in Marion County there is a small town called Emerson. Am I right?  The grave that I'm looking for is that of Nell (could be Nellie) Perry Savage and her husband Louis (could be Lewis). From a family Bible, I was told that they were buried near Wyaconda, which is in Clark County.  However, I have come across a letter from a daughter of Nell and Louis written at the time Louis passed away saying they buried him "next to mother at Emerson" . I am hoping you do have an Emerson town, and really hoping there is a cemetery there with the same name.

Nell Savage July 4, 1893 - March 18, 1919

Louis Mckibben Savage Dec. 6, 1889 to March 31, 1958

I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

SURNAMES: FINNIE

I would appreciate your help in finding out anything I can about my father's family. I had always heard that my grandfather came from Hannibal, Mo. and (his claim to fame) was that he was a friend of Samuel Clemmens. I mention this only to set a time frame for this search. My grandfathers name was James Lemuel Finnie. I don't know his father's name but his mothers name was Harried Mead Holt Finnie. I am sure they moved to Texas prior to 1889 because she, Harried Mead Holt Finnie, died in Gainesville, Texas, Sept. 12, 1889. If you happen to run across any of these names in your records, I would really appreciate your letting me know. Also, if you can suggest any other lines of research that I could follow, I would be most grateful as this is my first attempt at tracing my families history. Thank you

Looking for M.L. Thompson, who lived in Hannibal in 1909, had a daughter Zelda. His sister was Susan Huldah Thompson Keeton, my gr. grandmother. I am looking for other researchers who are descendants of the JOHNSON and RISK families who lived in Marion Co. (arrived by about 1825.) These families both came from VA, through the Bourbon/Scott Co. KY area, into IN, before arriving in Missiouri. I am especially anxious to find my RISK family ties (it is driving me crazy...and the trip is shorter every day!)  Ruth RISK b 1802 KY married James S. JOHNSON in KY about 1818, moved to IN in 1820, and then on to Marion Co. where they are on the census in 1830, 1840, and 1850. James died in 1838-9 and Ruth married his brother, William S. JOHNSON. My JOHNSON family ancestors moved on to CA. Is Ruth possibly related (sister?niece?cousin?) to the Moses RISK who raised his family in the Lewis/Marion Co. area (arrived about 1842)??
