Sons of Temperance

Palmyra Division No. 17, S. of T., was instituted by Bernard Bryan, G. W. P., August 28, 1847. The charter members were Jonathan Atkinson, Wm. H. Claggett, Wm. H. Walker, Joseph G. Easton, Robert H. Griffith, A. W. Bently, J. W. Shepherd, E. S. Felps, Thos. E. Hatcher, Wm. H. Lee, Jno. M. Glover, Wm. G. Tittle, Thos. H. Millan, Jno. M. Cooper, Alex. Leighton, Taylor Chandler, Alex. Gillespie, Jno. R. Copelin, Osbrey Bower, and Samuel S. Williams. The first officers were Jonathan Atkinson, W. P. ; Wm. H. Claggett, W. A.; Thos. E. Hatcher, R. S.; Wm. H. Walker, A. R. S.; Joseph G. Easton, F. S.; Robert H. Griffith, treasurer; A. W. Bently, conductor; J. W. Shepherd, assistant conductor; Richard S. Felps, I. S.; Wm. H. Lee, O. S. The lodge is now in a prosperous condition and numbers 96 members.
