NOAH T. WHITENER
Noah
T. Whitener, druggist at Marquand, Madison Co., Mo., was born October 5,
1852, and is the son of J. Q. A. Whitener and Mary (Bess) Whitener.
The father was born in Madison County, Mo., in 1830, and is a
farmer by occupation. His
father was born in North Carolina, and immigrated to Missouri in 1802,
where he afterward died. J.
Q. A. Whitener was elected county judge in 1882.
He owns a fine farm of 200 acres, and he and wife became the
parents of two children: Noah T. and Leurina I. (wife of N. B. Watts).
Noah T. Whitener engaged in the mercantile business in Marquand
in 1872, but after a time discontinued that business and returned to
farm life. After his return
to Marquand he had charge of the post office, and at the same time
studied pharmacy. In 1884
he resigned the office of postmaster to attend the St. Louis College of
Pharmacy, and in the fall of that year engaged in the drug business in
Marquand, at which he still continues.
October 31, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mattie E. Gordon,
and by her became the father of five children, four of whom survive:
Stella, Flora, Myrtle and Gordon. Mr. Whitener is one of the popular business men of the
county, and a gentleman of culture and refinement.
