Seventh-Day Adventist Church

On July 30, 1913, a meeting was held in Marceline East Park pavilion to organize a church. The eight charter members present were Harold E. and Mary W. Bulen, Mattie Chapman, H. E. and Pearl 0. Darby, D, A. Easton, J. F. and Florence Kantz. Steering the organizational meeting were Pastors Hoxie and Rout from church headquarters.

Worship services were first conducted in the homes of members. In 1915 the Holiness Church was acquired and became the first formal church home. As membership gradually increased, a school and missionary building were built on adjoining church property at the corner site of W. Crocker and Chestnut. Eventually, these buildings were removed and construction began in 1967 on a new sanctuary. This presently existing church edifice was dedicated in 1969. Member Lewis Cupp, deceased, was a most ardent supporter of the church’s building program.

Construction of the present Community Services and Fellowship Building, adjacent to the church, was begun In 1977 and dedicated in 1978.

Shepherds of the Marceline Seventh-day Adventist Church over the years include pastors Gary Oliver, George King, Ellis Miler, Mike Brown, Robert Gepford, and presently, Neal Johnson.
