Reason for surname research ?any findings about this surname

Davis, FNU -- Family of interest and This surname is part of Hatteras Island Family Reconstruction Project
Families of interest are included due to being recorded in early history, such as land records, taxes and other official government documents, of the areas that the colonists may have migrated to.
~~

Although Davis is not one of the colonist surnames, one of our participants does indeed match a Stevens line that is connected with Jamestown and may be connected with the Stevens family associated with the Lost Colony. Furthermore, Davis as a surname is found among early area NC records and also among the Lumbee and other mixed-race groups.
