Genealogy Report

.

Dear Lost Colony Y-Line DNA participant,

As I mentioned in the recent newsletter, we are working to provide genealogical data for each one of our Lost Colony surname participants and to be sure each person actually belongs in the Lost Colony project.

 1.  Your kit number ____________________128736___________

2.  Your name  Living,

3.  Why did you join the Lost Colony project?

Ancestral ties to very early North and South Carolina  and family stories of Native American ancestry in the Carolinas.

4.  How is your Y-line DNA line connected to the colonists, the surnames, Native people or the location?     My Williams family originated in England and migrated to the Carolinas.  I have a family history both maternal and paternal of Native American ancestry in the Carolinas with specific Lumbee mention.

The 3 sections of the website are divided into genealogy, research and history.

Genealogy – typically this would be the specific genealogy of the line listed here on the site….so the mtdna for you.

I am including a mini-genealogy form below for you to complete which should help you to document your maternal ancestry.  Alternatively, you can upload a gedcom to either your personal results page at Family Tree DNA or mitosearch and let us know that you have done so.

5.  Please provide a brief writeup (2 paragraphs to one page in length) on your line!

My Williams line is traced back to Elijah Williams in pre- revolutionary NC. I am currently working with the Williams dna project to connect to further generations.  The family story is of  a Williams who came from England to the Carolinas before Elijah Williams, perhaps a father or grandfather.  Elijah had four sons, two of which I have found; Hiram and Solomon Williams.  Following the War of 1812 the brothers migrated through Tn and Al, finally settling in Miss.

My grandfather Ira Williams told of “Indian”  ancestors in NC in the time before the Revolution.  He also spoke of a family member on the Trail of Tears.  I have as yet found no evidence to support the family legend. (but I’m still looking).

I also have maternal ancestors in NC, SC and Va with the surnames Bird (Byrd) and Sutton.  One purportedly married a Lumbee in the middle 1800’s.  I intend to participate in mtdna in the next few months.

6.  Mini-Genealogy From Participant to Oldest Ancestor (completeform below)

Completing the form below, enter the current generation’s name in line 1 and add each generation on subsequent lines through your oldest ancestor.  You don’t need to provide personal info for living individuals, just a placeholder name.
