Why did you join the Lost Colony project?
Ralph's
4th Great Grandfather was John Charles Paine born in Hampshire, England. A DNA
of Ralph Payne Jr. has matches to
the Payne (Paine) families in the USA. Earlier Paines were also sailors or Ship
owners & fish merchants. I feel that the Newfoundland Paynes are sharing
some of the same ancestors as those in the States.
4.
How is your Y-line DNA line connected to the colonists, the surnames,
Native people or the location?
As
the above states, there seems to be some DNA matches with family names in the
United States leaving the possibilty that these families were connecting with
each other in the past. Our Newfoundland Paynes are also connected by marriages
to the Miq Maq of Newfoundland.
The
3 sections of the website are divided into genealogy, research and history.
Genealogy
– typically this would be the specific genealogy of the line listed here on
the site….so the mtdna for you.
I
am including a mini-genealogy form below for you to complete which should help
you to document your maternal ancestry. Alternatively,
you can upload a gedcom to either your personal results page at Family Tree DNA
or mitosearch and let us know that you have done so.
5.
Please provide a brief write up (2 paragraphs to one page in length) on
your line!
6.
Mini-Genealogy From Participant to Oldest Ancestor (complete form below)
Completing
the form below, enter the current generation’s name in line 1 and add each
generation on subsequent lines through your oldest ancestor.
You don’t need
to provide personal info for living individuals, just a placeholder name.

We
are working to be sure that everyone who should be included in the Lost Colony,
is in fact included, and that folks who don’t have a potential link to the
colonists have the opportunity to join a project more suited to their needs.
If
possible, please reply within the next week or so.
Thank
you very much,
